Adored by Him: My Blissful Days as the Girl Next Door-Chapter 99 - 98 Clinging to You (Part 1)
Chapter 99: Chapter 98 Clinging to You (Part 1)
Zhao Meimei didn’t go to find Wang Jiayue again; she could tell that Wang Jiayue had no good feelings toward her.
Zhao Meimei wasn’t really interested in the whole ’warm face to cold behind’ thing.
The first year courses weren’t particularly difficult for Zhao Meimei, perhaps because all the subjects were still at the beginner level.
In her free time, Zhao Meimei would bury her head in the little books hidden in her desk, which she had snatched from the Fatty Girl sitting in front of her, whose bag was always filled with such small books.
After grabbing a couple of books, Zhao Meimei would usually give her a lollipop or buy her a popsicle when she got a cold drink.
The break between classes was too short, and she couldn’t read but a few pages before the bell rang again. When Zhao Meimei closed the book and turned her head, she saw Xu Xu, with ears turning red, still engrossed in his reading.
Zhao Meimei stretched her neck to peek through the gap where his neck was, and sure enough, the progress on the page was exactly at the part where the female lead whimpered, "No," as the male lead pounced and pressed her down. Then came all sorts of fade-outs, ellipses.
Zhao Meimei pursed her lips, secretly laughing. When she first started reading these kinds of books, her heart fluttered too, but then she lost interest. She preferred reading stories where the maid successfully pinned down the young master, never growing tired of them. While reading, her mind would automatically superimpose her Brother Yangyang’s handsome face onto the male lead, and even the slightly awkward descriptions seemed to become wonderful.
Seeing the teacher entering from the doorway, Zhao Meimei nudged Xu Xu with her arm and quietly reminded him, "The teacher’s coming."
Xu Xu quickly put the little book away, and when he looked up at Zhao Meimei, his fair face was still tinged with a blush that hadn’t had time to fade, and his large, pretty eyes seemed to be brimming with tears.
Zhao Meimei knew he was shy, so she didn’t tease him deliberately and turned her head toward the blackboard.
Seats were rearranged on the second day of school; Zhao Meimei and Xu Xu, being similar in height, conveniently became desk mates, sitting in the fourth row together. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
This class was math, and the teacher was very strict with many requirements. As soon as the teacher stood on the podium, Zhao Meimei quickly stood up and called out, "Class begin!"
The whole class greeted the teacher in unison.
The teacher responded, "Please sit." Then he looked around and suddenly frowned, turning to Zhao Meimei and asking, "Whose seat is this? Did they take leave today?"
Hmm?
Zhao Meimei followed the teacher’s gesture and glanced at the empty seat, momentarily stunned. It was Wang Jiayue’s seat; she had been present during the previous class.
Just as Zhao Meimei was about to get up to answer, a figure hurriedly rushed in through the classroom door.
Wang Jiayue stood at the door, her face noticeably flustered, quickly scanning the teacher on the podium with her head lowered.
The teacher’s expression darkened, "What’s going on! Don’t you know class has started already?"
Wang Jiayue’s head lowered further, her shoulders trembling slightly. She always habitually bent her body forward, appearing particularly timid.
The teacher, perhaps feeling some pity for her demeanor, said, "Fine, take your seat. Don’t let it happen again!"
Wang Jiayue hurriedly lowered her head and dashed back to her seat.
The class quickly returned to normal, with all the students attentively listening as the teacher earnestly taught from the podium. This little interlude quickly passed without leaving any trace.
Zhao Meimei turned her head and glanced at Wang Jiayue.
Wang Jiayue quietly rubbed her face, her expression gloomy, looking as if she was weighed down with worries.
Zhao Meimei retracted her gaze, thinking Wang Jiayue was a little odd. She was clearly a quiet, introverted person who didn’t like interacting with others.
Initially, Zhao Meimei thought she and Xu Xu were the same type of person—honest, shy—but later, she realized they weren’t alike. In the class, Wang Jiayue was like an invisible person; no one noticed her, coming and going from school alone, without arousing any attention.
Zhao Meimei occasionally paid attention to Wang Jiayue because of Da Bao, but most of the time, she unconsciously ignored her. Apart from the first day of school, when Zhao Meimei took the initiative to greet her, they hadn’t spoken or interacted.
Zhao Meimei was never someone who could keep things to herself. That night after school, she dropped by her mom’s for a bit and then turned to Da Bao’s house.
Zhao Meimei didn’t go upstairs as Da Bao’s mom tended to talk a lot, dragging conversations on forever whenever they met.
Zhao Meimei stood downstairs and called out, "Da Bao! Da Bao!!"
"Hey! Hey, hey!!"
A chubby face quickly appeared from the fourth-floor balcony, "Meimei?!"
Zhao Meimei waved at him, "Come down, I’ll wait for you by the stairway!"
Da Bao agreed outright, "Okay! Wait for me!"
Zhao Meimei moved in front of the unit door and soon saw Da Bao bolt out of the stairway.
In the hot weather, Da Bao wore just a loose pair of big shorts, shirtless, with his belly bouncing as he ran.
When he saw Zhao Meimei, a smile immediately spread across his face, "Just got out of school?"
Seeing him like this, Zhao Meimei couldn’t help but laugh, "Yes, I just got out."
Da Bao stood in front of her, "You came over specifically to see me? What’s up?"
Zhao Meimei got straight to the point, "Hey, I saw Wang Jiayue from your place."
Da Bao’s eyes lit up immediately, "Really?"
Zhao Meimei nodded, "Yeah, she’s in my class."
Da Bao scratched his head, suddenly looking simple-minded, "How is she?"
Zhao Meimei answered honestly, "Not great, I seriously doubt your taste."
Da Bao wasn’t offended by her words and smiled wryly, "That’s just how she is, doesn’t talk much."
Zhao Meimei raised an eyebrow, "Isn’t there more to it? Why did you ask me to look after her?"
Da Bao hesitated, pressing his lips together.
Zhao Meimei narrowed her slender eyes, and a bright light flickered at the corners.
Da Bao’s gaze immediately became evasive. Having grown up together, he knew Zhao Meimei narrowing her eyes meant she was getting temperamental.
Da Bao hurried to smooth things over, "It’s nothing, really. Back in middle school, there were a few girls at our school who always bullied her. After I started liking her, I would protect her from time to time. I thought that once we got to high school, I wouldn’t be able to look after her, so I was afraid she’d be bullied again."
Zhao Meimei slowly opened her narrowed eyes and poked Da Bao’s chest fat, "Isn’t this what they call putting romance over friendship? You’re asking me to look after her? You’re practically asking me to be her bodyguard!"
Da Bao laughed cheerfully, not modest in the slightest, "I know you can protect her."
Zhao Meimei, hearing this, smiled without denying it, "That’s true, who dares bully me! I’m class monitor again."
