Chapter 402: Chapter 401: Refusing Thanks

Peng Rui’s condition was more optimistic than expected. After a diagnosis, the doctor confirmed it as a threatened miscarriage, requiring hospitalization for recuperation.

As soon as she entered the hospital, Peng Hui completely broke down. All the previous shocks and fears erupted at this moment. She leaned on Zhao Meimei’s shoulder, crying her heart out, unable to handle anything anymore.

Shi Yang busied himself with the hospital admission process, buying temporary daily essentials, arranging the ward, and helping settle Peng Rui onto the hospital bed.

Shi Yang arranged a general ward for Peng Rui. After all, she wasn’t family, and his coming to help was already benevolent enough.

Once everything was settled, Peng Rui lay weakly on the bed, thanking Shi Yang and Zhao Meimei. Her voice clearly carried a sobbing tone: "Shi Yang, Meimei, thank you for tonight. It’s so late, and I caused you so much trouble."

Shi Yang politely said, "It’s nothing. Meimei and Peng Hui are good friends; you don’t need to be so formal with us."

Shi Yang’s words cut off any further words from Peng Rui.

Shi Yang knew what Peng Rui wanted to say, but talking to him was useless. He couldn’t inform Qu Chaozong about it. He wouldn’t have thought of bringing Peng Hui to the women’s and children’s hospital if it hadn’t seemed urgent.

Peng Rui’s eyes reddened further, tears sliding down her cheeks. Shi Yang glanced at her and then averted his gaze. He really had no goodwill toward Peng Rui, knowing better than anyone but the two involved how she had treated Qu Chaozong back then.

Seeing Peng Rui’s state now didn’t evoke Shi Yang’s sympathy; instead, it felt gratifying.

He spoke bluntly. The reason he came to help wasn’t for Peng Rui’s sake but Zhao Meimei’s. If it weren’t for Meimei being close friends with Peng Hui, he wouldn’t have gotten involved.

Due to Shi Yang’s attitude, Peng Rui felt extremely conflicted, a mix of shame, anger, despair about life, and regret for her past actions.

The more rotten Sun Yingyu treated her, the more she couldn’t help but reminisce about Qu Chaozong’s kindness. This was a near-vicious cycle of thought, causing her to abhor Sun Yingyu as deeply as she felt guilty and longing for Qu Chaozong.

With Peng Rui hospitalized, Peng Hui needed to stay as a companion at the hospital. Shi Yang arranged for a rental care bed, placing it in the aisle at the foot of Peng Hui’s bed.

Shi Yang inquired with the nurse and confirmed that three IV drips were needed in total. He returned to inform Peng Hui and stayed a while longer, emphasizing to keep her phone on to contact him if anything was needed before leaving with Zhao Meimei.

Zhao Meimei worried about Peng Hui and initially didn’t want to leave. Shi Yang persuaded her, "The ward doesn’t have space. Once Peng Rui’s three IV drips are done, it’ll be morning. Then Peng Hui can rest on the companion bed, but if you stay, there’s no room."

Zhao Meimei agreed after reconsidering, bidding farewell to Peng Hui and Peng Rui before leaving the hospital with Shi Yang.

On the way home, Zhao Meimei seemed a bit clingy. As Shi Yang drove, she watched him intently, her gaze heated, making his face warm within moments.

Taking advantage of the red light, Shi Yang turned to meet Zhao Meimei’s eyes. Just as he was about to tease her, Zhao Meimei suddenly leaned over, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him hard.

Shi Yang was momentarily stunned but quickly responded by pressing her head closer, deepening the kiss, until the car behind them honked due to a change in the light. He released her, steadied his breath, and exited the intersection on the green light.

Shi Yang drove like a rocket, reaching home in ten minutes on a twenty-minute route.

While opening the door with a key, Zhao Meimei hugged his waist from behind, pulling his shirt out of his pants, slipping her hand under his sweater. Shi Yang groaned, nearly dropping the keys.

Finally opening the door, Shi Yang dragged Zhao Meimei inside, kicked the door shut, and urgently pressed her against the wall to kiss her.

After a satisfying kiss, Shi Yang lifted Zhao Meimei by the waist, rushed into the bedroom, and tossed her onto the bed, where she lay compliantly, allowing him to enter from behind.

At the moment of entry, both moaned softly, the intimate friction making them both shiver with pleasure.

Shi Yang caressed Zhao Meimei’s skin, unable to resist kissing her neck, back, and shoulder blades. As his lips moved, his hands gripped Zhao Meimei’s slender waist, unable to help but say, "You’ve tightened up, it’s stiff. I prefer the soft feeling now."

Zhao Meimei turned her head, eyes glistening, giving Shi Yang a sidelong glance, panting, "Then I won’t go to the gym anymore..."

Shi Yang chuckled, fondly biting her back. Zhao Meimei yelped in pain, wriggling to escape like an eel. Shi Yang grunted, tightly clasped her still, and only then started moving roughly.

Zhao Meimei’s eyes became increasingly unfocused, mumbling nonsensical things, eventually only murmuring repeatedly, "Brother..."

Shi Yang watched Zhao Meimei’s disoriented state from above, seeing the sweat at her roots and the blush on her neck and cheeks. She was both enticing and stimulating, filling Shi Yang with affection and indulgence.

Shi Yang suddenly halted mid-action without withdrawing, flipping Zhao Meimei over to face him while continuing. Glaring with intensity at her breathless, satisfied expression, he drove himself hard, finally shouting her name loudly before collapsing with sweet, intoxicating words...

After resting for a while, Shi Yang carried Zhao Meimei to the bathroom for a shower, washing her hair and face and applying the shower gel. Zhao Meimei stood with spread arms, obeying Shi Yang’s commands.

After cleaning Zhao Meimei, Shi Yang wrapped her in a towel, telling her to return to the bedroom first.

Zhao Meimei cheekily leaned against the door, "I’m not leaving; I’m watching you shower, brother. Give me a show."

Shi Yang splashed her with water, making Zhao Meimei laugh heartily.

After playing around for a bit, Shi Yang said, "Be good, go back to the bedroom and get under the covers; don’t catch a cold. Oh, since we’ve been back a while, call Peng Hui to check in."

Zhao Meimei agreed and left.

Zhao Meimei got into bed with her phone and called Peng Hui. The call was answered almost immediately.

Zhao Meimei said, "Hey, Peng Hui, how is everything? Is your sister doing better?"

Peng Hui whispered, "Hey, Meimei, hold on, I’m going out to talk to you."

Shortly, Peng Hui’s voice came over the phone again, "Meimei."

Zhao Meimei replied, "Peng Hui, how’s your sister? Is she alright?"

Peng Hui said, "She’s fine. My sister’s getting an IV. The hospital turns off the lights at a certain time, and the patient at the neighboring bed needs to rest, so I’m using my phone to illuminate and monitor the IV bag."

Zhao Meimei felt sorry, "Oh, I didn’t think of that. I should’ve bought you a flashlight."

Peng Hui reassured her, "No need, the phone works fine. I don’t feel like playing with it anyway."

Peng Hui continued, "Meimei, thank you for today. I wouldn’t have known what to do without you and your brother."

Zhao Meimei laughed, "You’re being formal with me? Don’t you want to get along anymore! Once your sister’s IV is done, get some rest. I’ll help you ask the teacher for leave tomorrow."

Peng Hui agreed, "Okay."

Zhao Meimei hung up the phone, her mood completely settled, and shifted to lie comfortably, waiting for Shi Yang to return.
