Adored by Him: My Blissful Days as the Girl Next Door-Chapter 372 - 371: No Coincidence, No Story
The atmosphere between Qu Chaozong and Mr. Zhang was tense and confrontational.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door from outside, and a waiter came in to ask, "Sir, can we serve the cold dishes now?"
Mr. Zhang didn’t respond, but Qu Chaozong glanced at the waiter and said, "Yes, please."
The waiter acknowledged, turned around, and didn’t forget to close the door on the way out.
Once the door was closed, Qu Chaozong earnestly said, "Uncle, I truly love Zhang Xin. I want to be with her, and I’m not after anything from her. I’m currently running a maternity and baby store with my buddies, and the business is finally showing promise. Plus, I’ve already bought a house. Once it’s ready, I’m planning to marry Zhang Xin."
"You might not know me well yet, but I’m not one to make verbal promises lightly. I’d rather prove things with my actions."
Mr. Zhang’s expression didn’t soften at all, "Anyone can say nice words. You say you’ll prove it with actions, but how? By marrying Zhang Xin? What if your proof fails after marriage? That’s quite a cunning plan you have there."
Under Mr. Zhang’s sharp words, Qu Chaozong’s face flushed red. All his life, except for the early years when he had to read people’s expressions to run errands and build connections, no one had dared to throw such tough words at him like this.
Qu Chaozong was never one to back down easily. He had been suppressing his anger, repeatedly chanting in his heart, "This is Zhang Xin’s dad, Zhang Xin’s dad..."
Mr. Zhang, with his stern look and cold face, came today to break up the couple. The angrier Qu Chaozong got, the better, preferably if he flipped the table and left, never to show up again.
Mr. Zhang, with a grim face, said word by word, "Let me tell you, you and Zhang Xin are not going to work out. Don’t say I don’t agree; even our family elder won’t agree!"
Qu Chaozong was so blocked by Mr. Zhang’s words that his liver hurt. He was about to get up and leave, thinking, to hell with it, I’m done!
Before he could move, there was another knock on the door. The waiter opened it, but didn’t come in, and instead turned back to call, "Please come in."
Zhang Xin helped an elder into the private room.
As soon as Qu Chaozong saw who it was, he sprang up from his chair, eyes fixed dumbfounded on the elder Zhang Xin was supporting, mouth half-open and stunned.
Upon entering, Zhang Xin glanced at her father before directly looking at Qu Chaozong, seeing him standing there dazed, quickly signaling with her eyes: Greet them, say something!
Qu Chaozong didn’t even glance at Zhang Xin, his eyes suddenly riveted on the elder’s face.
They both stared at each other, both surprised.
What a fate!
Neither of them expected to bump into each other here.
Mr. Zhang was the first to speak, "Dad."
The old man also opened his mouth and said, "You rascal, how is it you?"
Qu Chaozong stared wide-eyed, incredulous, then couldn’t help but burst out laughing, "Oh my! Elder! Oh dear, isn’t this something!"
Qu Chaozong walked over in two strides, taking the elder from Zhang Xin’s hands, both of them grabbing arms and chatting warmly.
The elder said, "You rascal, if you had said your name is Chaozi, I wouldn’t have thought of this!"
Qu Chaozong also said, "I never thought you’d be XinXin’s grandfather!"
Mr. Zhang couldn’t help but ask, "Dad, you know him?"
The elder said, "Of course, I know him. He was the one who took me to the hospital back then. Oh dear, turns out he’s family."
Zhang Xin was extremely surprised and turned to ask Qu Chaozong, "You saved my grandpa?"
Qu Chaozong nodded.
Zhang Xin said, "Why didn’t you tell me such a big thing?"
Qu Chaozong said, "I didn’t know he was your grandpa. At the time, I just casually helped, what’s there to boast about?"
The elder reached out and patted him on the back with a familiar touch, filled with undisguised affection, "Well said, alright, let’s sit and talk."
As they took their seats, the elder clutched Qu Chaozong’s arm, unwilling to let go, and Qu Chaozong sat on the elder’s left side. Mr. Zhang stayed in the main seat without moving, but the elder was not pleased, staring him down, "Let my granddaughter sit next to me."
Hearing this, Mr. Zhang’s face turned cold immediately, but unable to erupt on the spot, he got up and vacated the seat.
Zhang Xin sat down on the elder’s right side.
Once everyone was seated, the elder turned to size up Qu Chaozong, unable to hold back his laughter, "Dressed quite formally today, huh!"
Only now did Qu Chaozong finally exhale a sigh of relief, a light and relaxed expression flooding his eyes, "Indeed, to meet you, even did my hair using my buddy’s hair wax... Oh, by the way, I bought you something too."
Qu Chaozong took out and placed the items on the table, the first thing being cigarettes handed to Mr. Zhang, "Uncle, I bought these cigarettes for you."
The elder observed him for a moment, then laughed, revealing, "Were those really for him? Originally, they were for me, right?"
Qu Chaozong froze mid-action while handing the cigarettes, then tossed a look to the old man, asking him not to spoil the plan!
The elder just laughed, saying to Mr. Zhang, "The young man is honoring you, you should accept it."
With the elder speaking, Mr. Zhang reluctantly accepted the items.
Qu Chaozong then passed over the wine and tea, just about to deliver some formal remarks, when the elder teased, "Oh! Buying such a bunch of flashy things, you might as well buy me another quit smoking device, the last one is almost chewed up."
Qu Chaozong laughed out loud, casually responding with some banter, "Oh wow, you sure are talented. Aren’t there a dozen spare mouthpieces in the box? You could change one a day, and it would still last for half a month!" 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
The elder was taken aback, casually fishing out that quit smoking device from his pocket, "Ah, are there any more spares in the box? I didn’t check."
Zhang Xin said, "So, the quit smoking device was from you for my grandpa?"
Qu Chaozong, with a hint of pride, said, "Hmm, I just thought that when the elder had a craving, it would be uncomfortable, so I bought it to help him ease through it."
He truly didn’t expect that the elder turned out to be Zhang Xin’s grandpa. Such boundless blessings, it’s as if just as he was about to nap, someone handed him a pillow.
The elder complemented, "Chaozi, this kid is thoughtful, a good person, I get along well with him, I like him. Da Bao, you’ve got good taste."
The elder’s words carried two meanings, expressing his opinion while also passing the baton to Mr. Zhang.
Mr. Zhang’s fingernails sunk into his palm, his face changed color; he never expected that not only did Qu Chaozong visit a deity at the temple but somehow directly prayed to a true god. Such tactics! If not for the coincidence, this kid would simply become a genius!
Seeing that Qu Chaozong had won her grandpa’s affection, Zhang Xin beamed, unable to keep her mouth closed, wrapped her arms around her grandpa’s neck, and kissed him on the face, "Of course! The person I fancy would definitely be great. My Chaozi treats me really well, and I love him very much too."
