Addiction to Temptation: His Mischievous Sweetheart Captivates Him-Chapter 295: What Makes a Partner
Phoebe Quinn crouched down and, upon seeing the small puddle of liquid under the car, her face fell.
The pungent smell told them.
Someone had tampered with the brake fluid of the car.
In other words, if they hadn’t noticed and had gotten into the car directly, who knows what might have happened in the end.
"Nina, could this also be the work of that stupid woman?"
Natalie Vaughn shook her head.
"She wouldn’t have the guts for this."
"Then who might have done this?"
Natalie already had someone in mind. She never expected Danny would go to such lengths.
"Another foolish person."
Natalie recounted the events from five years ago and the incidents at Jack’s Styling Salon to Phoebe. Phoebe was so angry that she stamped her foot.
"So, he resorted to underhanded tactics because he couldn’t compete with God Thorne? Damn! I really want to go over and give him a good beating."
Natalie chuckled.
"I’ve already given him one."
"No way, he needs a few more. How dare he do something like this?"
Natalie wasn’t so sure anymore.
"Let’s call the police to have a look first, but..."
Natalie glanced around; there were hardly any surveillance cameras in the area, making it unlikely to find any evidence.
Phoebe was also aware of how foreign police operated.
"We definitely need to be more careful about this. Do you plan on telling God Thorne?"
As Natalie was about to shake her head, Phoebe interrupted.
"You must tell God Thorne."
Natalie was momentarily taken aback.
"Why?"
"Are you worried that God Thorne, who’s fully focusing on his comeback, will be distracted because of you?"
Natalie nodded; that was indeed her concern.
Lately, Zane had not only been training but also needed to exercise to maintain his physical condition, and there were old injuries that required delicate care.
She really didn’t want to distract Zane because of her issues.
"But have you considered how upset God Thorne would be if he finds out you didn’t tell him about this?"
Natalie looked at Phoebe, pursing her lips as she asked.
"What do you mean?"
"You don’t really know who Danny or anyone else is; it’s because of God Thorne that they targeted you. You noticed it in time today, but what if there’s a next time? What if something happens to you, what would God Thorne do?"
Natalie hadn’t thought about it this way.
"Besides, is telling God Thorne necessarily a bad thing? That person openly declared against you in front of God Thorne, and if nothing happens, it might make God Thorne suspicious. Regardless, because God Thorne cares about you, he wouldn’t ignore this. God Thorne knows far more people here than you do; there’s no harm in telling him."
Phoebe’s arguments were logical, and Natalie had to take them seriously.
She recalled when she was still with the crew; she risked herself to catch the person who wanted to harm her, and after Zane found out, he didn’t speak to her for a long time.
Phoebe, seeing her wavering, added.
"Simply put, put yourself in his shoes—if God Thorne encountered something like this, would you want him to keep it from you?"
Natalie shook her head.
No, she wouldn’t want that.
"Marriage is about facing things together, Nina."
Phoebe said with a heavy heart.
By now, Natalie had been convinced, though she was surprised by Phoebe’s serious tone.
"Yana, I feel like you’ve changed a lot since you got together with Aaron Channing."
Phoebe paused.
"Have I?"
Natalie looked at her with eyes full of amusement.
Phoebe shyly touched her nose.
"Aaron taught me this. You know that ever since my brother went to the police academy, I’ve been groomed as an heir, having to make many decisions on my own, and gradually, I became self-reliant."
"But being too independent isn’t advantageous in a relationship; Aaron felt I didn’t trust him or want to rely on him. He told me that being together means sharing responsibility and growing together, which prompted me to change."
"I also think that in a partnership, there should be reasons to accompany each other beyond love. If you’re together, why not rely on each other?"
Looking at Phoebe’s demeanor, Natalie saw a woman well-nourished by love.
She was truly happy.
"Tsk, you both owe me half the credit for being together. How do you plan to thank me?"
Phoebe thought for a moment.
"Aaron plans to set up a private hospital soon; how about giving you some shares?"
Natalie blinked and hugged Phoebe.
"My dear Yana, don’t worry, I’ll do everything I can to help you two get married soon."
Phoebe: ...
"Miss Vaughn, future Mrs. Thorne of The Thorne Group, and GN Group’s president’s wife, if my tiny shares catch your eye, it’s truly my honor."
The two of them were laughing and chatting, stopping a car to head to the training ground.
By the time they arrived, Zane had finished his training. Normally reserved, Aaron couldn’t help but complain as he followed Zane.
"Does your group not have money to hire a doctor? I’m supposed to be on vacation, and now I have to deal with your injuries and provide psychological counseling. What kind of vacation is this?"
"The doctor’s family had an emergency, and another went on vacation; we had no other choice."
"So you grabbed me as the sucker, huh?"
"Don’t worry, we’ll pay you."
"I’m expensive."
"We’ll pay you double your usual rate."
Aaron: ...
That could work, considering he didn’t have to do it every day.
When Phoebe brought up the hospital shares, Aaron’s expression was as if the sky had fallen.
A total loss.
Zane noticed they hadn’t driven over and asked a question.
It was impossible to hide it after all.
Natalie then recounted the incident with the brake fluid to Zane. After hearing the details, Zane’s face turned sour, and he was about to get up to leave.
Natalie quickly stopped him.
"What are you doing?"
"Going to beat him up."
"Do you have evidence?"
"Do I need evidence to beat him up?"
Natalie: ...
Indeed, no evidence was needed. Even if Danny reported it to the police, there wasn’t much they could do. Besides, Danny would never report it if it was really him.
"There’s no rush to beat him up now, it’s already dark. Why go now?"
How could Zane swallow this?
If it weren’t for Natalie’s alertness, noticing the traces on the ground, once they got into the car... injuries would be the least of their worries—it could even lead to a fatal accident,
Natalie understood Zane’s feelings.
"I’ve already called the police to investigate. We can deal with him after getting evidence. It’s dark, and after a full day of training, I haven’t even had a proper meal. Are you still going now?"
The anger was stuck in Zane’s chest, unable to go up or down.
"Baby."
Natalie responded.
"I feel like eating hotpot, let’s go buy some groceries first."
