Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Set Up by Someone Else

Zeke Lowell only found out about this the next day. Originally, it wasn’t planned to let him know, fearing that he might not be able to take it upon hearing the news.

But the incident was too big to keep under wraps, and it quickly reached his ears.

Before hearing the news, he was at home having a check-up from his private doctor. His health had been deteriorating over the past two years, prompting him to hasten the drafting of his will.

Upon hearing the news, his blood pressure shot up immediately, and it was only after taking some medication that it was forcefully brought down.

He initially planned to go to the Lynch Family to find someone, but upon hearing from Ian Lynch that they were already at the hospital, he came here too, accompanied by two male assistants.

When he arrived at the hospital, Ian and the others hadn’t yet arrived. He first went to check on Willow Sterling’s ward. Seeing that there was a caretaker and the situation had stabilized, he felt relieved.

After advising her to take care of her health and not let herself get upset, he proceeded to the next room to see Sophia Lowell.

"Grandpa," Zane Sterling greeted.

"Grandpa, why are you here?" Sophia Lowell, having just finished some dessert and lying on the bed, had mostly regained her usual complexion, although her leg still throbbed with a faint, burning pain.

"Had I not come, you would’ve thought I’m already in my coffin. Such a big event happens, and no one bothers to inform me. I have to hear it from others," Zeke Lowell said, his cheeks puffed in anger.

Sophia looked at the angry old man and couldn’t help but smile.

Growing up, she barely had male elders show such concern for her. Suddenly feeling this warmth filled her heart.

"Grandpa, you’re still so youthful; a coffin couldn’t contain you," Zane Sterling said, pulling out a chair for him.

Zeke Lowell glanced at Zane, then turned to nag him, "You’re a grown man, and you let two women go out without a bodyguard? What good are you?"

Zane pursed his lips, "Grandpa is right. It’s my fault."

"Aside from being handsome and having some money, what else are you good for?"

"..." That’s enough.

Zane handed a cup of pear water to Zeke, "Have some pear water to soothe your throat."

Zeke was still fuming with anger.

"I heard that troublesome girl is coming over. What do you plan to do?" he asked.

He felt somewhat guilty. Autumn Lowell and Sophia Lowell hadn’t been back for long, and unpleasant incidents kept happening. His sense of guilt towards them only grew.

Zane looked at Sophia.

Sophia didn’t say anything.

If Shelley Lynch really was responsible, whether Sophia mentioned it or not, both the Lowell Family and the Lynch Family would teach her a lesson. If Sophia brought it up at this point, it might seem excessive, yet not mentioning it felt unfair given the ordeal she endured.

"Sigh..." Zeke sighed. This matter truly wasn’t easy to handle.

Shelley had caused quite a big issue this time.

Just as everyone was grappling with the situation, Ian brought Shelley in, with Old Master Lynch following behind, as if bringing a child who’d done something wrong to apologize.

Yana Lowell and Finn Lynch didn’t come; they went to the company to handle business.

In fact, they didn’t want to witness the scene either, preferring to achieve something at the company to seek forgiveness, at least hoping Shelley would be penalized lightly.

But showing up now wouldn’t be ideal; with the family heads present, their presence might seem like sheltering her.

As Shelley walked into the ward, she was startled at the sight of Zeke, trembling all over.

Her legs were already weak, and now they shook even more severely. Her mental state had been collapsing since last night, her face pale as a sheet.

She stood frozen, forgetting even to greet anyone.

Ian nudged her from the side, showing no intention of shielding her.

Shelley came to her senses and finally greeted the people in the ward.

Nobody responded or acknowledged her, waiting for her to continue speaking.

Shelley glanced at Ian, then at Old Master Lynch.

Old Master Lynch nudged her forward with a cane placed against her back, speaking harshly, "Stop embarrassing us here. Apologize when you should."

Ian thought his sister lacked intelligence. Probably, all their parents’ intellect was passed to him, leaving him wondering how Shelley even managed to get into college.

She’d been indiscreet since childhood. Just the other day, Tim Sawyer had already taken advantage of her, and now she caused this incident.

Wait, Tim Sawyer...

Something seemed to click in Ian’s mind, causing a mental pause.

Old Master Lynch exchanged polite greetings with Zeke Lowell.

Old Master Lynch came with an agenda.

It was half an hour before they emerged from the ward.

Shelley wasn’t sent abroad but was sent to a remote area to handle that region’s business. If she didn’t meet expectations within six months, her shares would be rendered void.

If she achieved something, there would still be a place for her in the Lowell Family.

Old Master Lynch was taking a step back to advance, fearing Zeke would directly kick Shelley out, leaving her without any security.

Sophia couldn’t say much; he’d already said as much. This decision wasn’t insignificant, nor trivial. While it looked like a punishment, it was more an opportunity for her to train, and it stabilized the current situation to prevent shares from slipping away too quickly.

Zane thought Old Master Lynch had some brains, just a pity for him, since his son was unproductive, and the granddaughter was like this, really dragging Ian down and burdening his sister.

Ian had just learned about the decision, and he found himself humorously remarking internally that the old are indeed the more cunning.

Zeke had something to say but couldn’t bring himself to. How could he not understand the implications?

Was this matter just going to pass by in confusion?

He said nothing, implying tacit agreement, but his gaze met Zane’s.

After Shelley and the others walked out, she returned.

Ian and Old Master Lynch didn’t follow her, merely waiting in place.

Sophia and Zane felt somewhat shocked seeing Shelley come back.

Shelley’s face bore tear stains, likely from too much crying the night before, her eyes red and swollen, her bags heavy. With a hoarse voice, she humbly said, "Sterling, I’m sorry."

She choked out, "I was wrong that night, but the thing with my cousin and sister-in-law really wasn’t my doing, heaven knows. If it was me, then let me die out in the countryside and never return."

She was almost crying as she finished speaking, then ran out directly.

Zane watched her back, his expression remaining mostly unchanged.

Sophia was taken aback for a moment, momentarily questioning the incident’s authenticity. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

But what had happened that night?

She focused her eyes on Zane, asking, "Which night are you talking about? What happened?"

They hadn’t told too many people about that night, but the elders who needed to know had been informed.

It was merely for her dignity that nothing was revealed.

Zane didn’t keep it from her, pouring her a glass of warm water, saying, "She tried to climb into my bed, only to fall when she found she couldn’t, and was even seen by the brother-in-law."

He spoke somewhat ambiguously, but Sophia seemed to grasp the meaning.

"Do you think this matter was Shelley’s doing?" she asked.

"Even if Shelley is foolish, she wouldn’t continually give you trouble for days, leaving such an obvious flaw. She must’ve been set up by someone else."

"Who could it be..." Sophia pondered, lips pursed.

Zane remained silent.

Even if it wasn’t Shelley’s doing, being assigned elsewhere to manage a project was what she deserved.

As for this matter, it wouldn’t just be let go.

A cold glint flickered in his eyes.
