Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 92: Moment of Quiet
Delphinia ran the towel gently over her hair, sitting at the vanity mirror in Evander’s bedroom. Her clean pajamas—a soft cotton set in pale lavender—were a stark contrast to the disheveled clothes she’d arrived in earlier. The warm bath Evander had prepared for her had done wonders for her tense muscles and aching body.
She smiled to herself, surprised by the effort he’d put into the bath. He’d added fragrant herbs and a soothing bubble bath that made the water both calming and luxurious. As she sat there, drying her hair, she felt lighter, more relaxed, like some of the weight she carried had been washed away with the bathwater.
The sound of the closet door opening drew her attention. She glanced up into the mirror and saw Evander stepping out. He was dressed simply but effortlessly—his white shirt clung to his broad shoulders, and his black sweatpants hung low on his hips, emphasizing his lean, powerful frame. His dark hair was slightly damp, suggesting he had freshened up as well.
Delphinia’s hands slowed, her gaze lingering on him longer than she intended. Evander caught her staring and raised an eyebrow, the corner of his lips tugging into a faint smile.
"Still drying your hair?" he asked casually as he walked toward her.
Delphinia blinked, snapping herself out of her thoughts. "Uh, yes. It’s taking longer than usual."
Evander stopped behind her, his tall frame towering over her petite figure. Without a word, he reached out and gently took the towel from her hands. His touch was firm yet careful, and Delphinia felt her heart skip a beat.
"I’ll do it," he said softly.
She opened her mouth to protest but stopped herself. There was something about his voice—calm yet kind—that made her step aside and let him handle it. She sat still, staring at her reflection as Evander carefully ran the towel over her damp hair.
He moved carefully, his fingers lightly grazing her scalp as he focused as he worked. Delphinia sat in silence, unsure of why she felt so frozen. She wasn’t used to this—someone taking care of her like this.
"You’re quiet," Evander said after a moment, his deep voice breaking the silence.
"I... don’t know what to say," she admitte.
Evander chuckled softly, the sound rumbling low in his chest. "You don’t have to say anything."
Delphinia’s gaze flickered to the mirror again. The image of Evander standing behind her, so focused on drying her hair, was both strange and comforting. She didn’t know why she wasn’t stopping him. Maybe she didn’t want to.
After a moment, Evander broke the quiet again. "What else did they do to you in that house?"
Delphinia’s chest tightened at the question. She avoided his eyes in the mirror, focusing instead on her hands resting in her lap. "Nothing," she muttered. "Just locked me in my room like I was some rebellious teenager trying to sneak out to a party."
Evander’s hands slowed for a moment before continuing. He leaned down, his breath warm against her ear, and rested his chin lightly on her shoulder.
Delphinia froze, her eyes widening as she met his gaze in the mirror. The intimate gesture sent her pulse racing, and she felt her cheeks flush.
"Evander," she started, her voice shaky.
Before she could say more, she quickly stood, breaking the contact. She walked over to the bed, sitting on the edge and clasping her hands together tightly.
"It’s late," she said abruptly, her voice louder than it needed to be. "Ashton must be asleep by now. If he’s not, I’ll go check on him. I miss him so much."
Evander straightened, watching her closely. He draped the towel over the back of the chair, then crossed the room to her. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"You miss Ashton," he said, stopping a few feet away from her.
"Of course I do," she replied quickly, her fingers twisting nervously in her lap.
Evander tilted his head a bit. "What about me? Do you miss me?"
Delphinia’s head snapped up, her eyes wide. "What?" she stammered, caught off guard.
Taking a step closer, he held her gaze without flinching. "Do you miss me?" he repeated, his voice quieter this time but no less intense.
"I..." Delphinia’s words faltered. She didn’t know what to say.
Evander leaned down, placing a hand on the bed beside her to steady himself. "Because I miss you," he said softly.
Before she could respond, he closed the small distance between them, his lips capturing hers in a kiss. Delphinia’s eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding so loudly she was sure he could hear it.
For a moment, she didn’t move, frozen by the intensity of his kiss. But as the warmth of his lips pressed against hers, she found herself leaning in, her body acting on its own.
Evander’s hand slid to the back of her neck, pulling her closer as he deepened the kiss. His touch was both firm and gentle, and it sent a shiver down her spine.
When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against hers, their breaths mingling in the quiet room. Her face burned as her eyes darted to his, looking for answers she couldn’t put into words.
"Why..." she began, her voice barely a whisper.
"Because I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you," he said simply.
His words hit her, making her chest feel like it was caving in. She wanted to say something, anything, but the chaos in her head kept her silent.
Evander eased her back onto the bed, moving slowly like he was afraid she’d run. They lay side by side, his arm draped protectively over her waist.
Delphinia stared at the ceiling, her thoughts racing. She didn’t know why she hadn’t pushed him away, why she had let him kiss her, why she felt so... safe in his arms.
The silence dragged on, and she took a deep breath, hoping to calm her nerves. She didn’t have all the answers, but for now, she decided to let herself be in this moment.
