Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 84: Clipped Wings
Delphinia’s arms throbbed as the two men hauled her down the dim hallway toward her father’s office. Their hands clamped around her forearms like iron shackles, and though she struggled at first, she quickly realized resistance was futile. The thick carpet silenced their steps, but ragged breaths filled her ears, fueled by a mix of anger and frustration
The large double doors of Robert Harrington’s office towered ahead, their dark finish shining in the uneven light. One of the men knocked sharply on the door.
"Come in," Robert’s deep voice barked from the other side.
The door swung open, and the men marched her inside without hesitation. The office was just as intimidating as she remembered, with shelves of old books and a huge oak desk in the middle. Robert sat behind it, his piercing eyes narrowing the moment they landed on her.
"What happened?" he asked, his voice cool but laced with irritation.
One of the men straightened, still gripping Delphinia’s arm as he replied, "Caught her trying to run, sir. She was climbing down from the balcony."
Robert leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers as he regarded her. His expression was unreadable, but the tightness in his jaw betrayed his annoyance. After a moment, he waved his hand dismissively.
"You can leave," he said.
The men hesitated for a brief second before releasing Delphinia’s arms and stepping back. She resisted the urge to rub the sore spots where their fingers had dug into her skin. Without another word, the men exited the room, closing the door behind them.
Silence enveloped the space, broken only by the faint ticking of a clock on the mantel.
Delphinia stood tall, her posture rigid but her face calm. She forced herself to look unbothered, even as her heart raced. There was no point in showing fear—it would only give her father satisfaction.
"Well?" Robert finally said, breaking the silence. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
With a small shrug, she replied, "What’s there to say? I just wanted to leave. Last I checked, it’s a free country."
Robert’s lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze sharp as a blade. "I knew you’d rebel. I expected it. But to think you’d be stupid enough to try climbing down a balcony? You could’ve killed yourself."
Delphinia arched a brow, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, forgive me for not planning a grand escape worthy of a heist movie. I had to work with what I had."
His fingers drummed against the desk, the sound deliberate and measured. "Why?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. "Why do you want to run so badly?"
"Why do you want to keep me here so badly?" she shot back, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I’m your father," he said, leaning forward, his voice rising slightly. "I’m trying to protect you."
She laughed, a bitter sound that filled the room. "Protect me? By locking me up like a prisoner? That’s rich, even for you."
His jaw tightened, and a vein in his temple pulsed. "You don’t understand—"
"Oh, I understand perfectly," she interrupted, her tone cutting. "You don’t trust me. You never have. You think keeping me here will solve all your problems, but newsflash: I’m not a problem to solve."
Robert slammed his hand on the desk, the sharp sound echoing in the room. "Enough of your nonsense!"
Delphinia didn’t flinch. Instead, she stepped closer, her eyes blazing with defiance. "You can’t keep me here forever, Father. I’m not a child who’ll just sit quietly and do as she’s told."
"You’re acting like a child!" he snapped, rising to his feet.
"I’m acting like someone who refuses to be treated like property," she countered, her voice calm despite the fire burning inside her.
Their words clashed like swords, the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife. Robert’s face was flushed with anger, while Delphinia’s expression remained calm, though her hands were clenched into fists at her sides.
"You think you’re so clever," Robert said, his voice cold. "But you don’t understand the dangers out there."
"And you don’t understand that I don’t care!" she shot back. "I’d rather face whatever’s out there than stay here and rot under your watch."
His eyes narrowed, and for a moment, she thought he might lunge across the desk at her. Instead, he exhaled sharply, shaking his head. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"You’re impossible," he muttered.
"Maybe," she said with a smirk. "But at least I’m not a control freak with a god complex."
That seemed to be the final straw. Robert’s face turned a deeper shade of red, and he marched to the door, yanking it open.
"Enough!" he roared, his voice echoing down the hall. "Get in here!"
The same two men who had brought her in appeared instantly, their expressions tense as they stepped into the room.
"Take her back to her room," Robert ordered, his voice clipped. "And keep a guard under her balcony. She’s not going anywhere."
Delphinia’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t resist as the men moved toward her. "This isn’t over," she said, her voice low enough that only Robert could hear.
He met her gaze, his expression hard. "You’re right. It isn’t."
The men grabbed her arms, their grips firm but not rough, and began leading her out of the room. She refused to look back, but she could feel Robert’s eyes on her, pressing down on her like a dark shadow.
As they guided her back down the hall, Delphinia’s mind raced. Stay here? With them? The thought alone made her stomach twist. These weren’t just her family; they were horrible people, a fact that felt more like a curse than a bond.
She wasn’t trying to threaten her father earlier. She wasn’t foolish enough to think words could intimidate a man like Robert. But enough was enough. This wasn’t a life—it was a gilded prison. The walls of this house, no matter how grand, were closing in on her, and she refused to let them cage her forever.
This wasn’t the end—it was only the beginning.
