Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 121: The Process
Ashton left his lunch untouched, his gaze fixed blankly ahead while his friend kept talking.
"Oh," Liam began, his voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper as he leaned in. "But do you guys know how parents make babies?"
The group fell silent for a moment, wide eyes darting around. The topic was one they hadn’t openly discussed before, and the idea seemed both thrilling and mysterious.
"I know!" Olivia said, raising her hand like she was in class. Her pink-ribboned pigtails bounced as she spoke "They buy them at the baby shop."
Daniel snorted loudly, shaking his head. "That’s not true, Olivia. My mom told me there’s no such thing as a baby shop. Babies come from hospitals."
"Well, duh," Olivia shot back, crossing her arms. "But where do the hospitals get the babies? They have to buy them from the baby shop!"
The group erupted into laughter at Olivia’s logic. With a slightly uncomfortable smile, Ashton braced himself for whatever might come next.
"No, no, no," Liam said, waving his hand for silence. He looked around dramatically, his green eyes glinting with mischief. "I know the real way."
"What is it?" Daniel asked, leaning forward.
Liam smirked, clearly enjoying the attention. "The parents go inside the bedroom together every night, lock the door, and—boom!—that’s how babies are made."
Ashton stared at Liam, his expression changing from mild amusement to stunned disbelief. His heart skipped a beat, and his palms felt clammy. That’s what his father and Delphinia did.
The others didn’t notice Ashton’s sudden shift in demeanor. Olivia wrinkled her nose. "Every night? That sounds boring."
Daniel, however, caught Ashton’s expression. He pointed a finger at him, his grin wide. "Ha! Ashton, is that what your parents do? They lock the door every night, don’t they?"
Ashton’s mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. His face turned a faint shade of pink, and he shifted uncomfortably on the grass. Finally, he nodded, his movements stiff and uncertain.
Liam’s smirk widened. "See? I told you that’s how it works. If they’re locking the door every night, Ashton, you’d better get ready."
"Ready for what?"
"For a baby, duh!" Liam exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air as if the answer was obvious. "That means you’re going to have a little brother or sister soon. You need to prepare!"
Ashton blinked, his mind racing. A sibling? The thought hadn’t occurred to him before. "Prepare for what?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"To share everything," Daniel said solemnly. "Your parents’ love, their attention, your toys... everything."
"And," Liam added, pointing at Ashton, "you’ll have to be a good older brother. You’ll need to help with the baby. Like changing diapers and stuff."
Ashton’s stomach twisted into a knot. He tried to imagine what it would be like to have a baby in the house, to share his dad and Delphinia with someone else.
"Don’t worry, Ashton," Olivia said, patting his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. "Maybe the baby will like you the best, and they’ll want to play with you all the time."
"Or maybe the baby will cry all the time," Daniel teased, making a fake crying sound that had the others giggling.
Before Ashton could respond, the school bell rang, signaling the end of lunch break. The children groaned in unison, dragging themselves off the grass and gathering their things. Ashton followed his friends back to the classroom, but his usual energy was gone. His head was buzzing with confusion, every thought somehow tied to Liam’s remark.
The afternoon lessons blurred into a haze for Ashton. He stared at the chalkboard, his pencil idle in his hand, but the teacher’s words barely registered. His thoughts kept circling back to the conversation under the tree.
"Ashton?" the teacher’s voice jolted him back to reality. He looked up to see Miss Parker frowning at him from the front of the room. "Are you paying attention?"
"Y-Yes, Miss Parker," Ashton stammered, sitting up straighter in his chair. He scribbled something in his notebook to look busy, but his mind remained elsewhere.
The rest of the school day passed in a similar fog. When the final bell rang, Ashton packed his bag slowly, his usual enthusiasm for going home nowhere to be found. He shuffled out of the classroom and into the courtyard, where Delphinia waited for him by the car. She smiled warmly when she saw him.
"Hey, Ashton," she greeted, ruffling his hair affectionately. "How was school today?"
"It was... okay," Ashton replied, his voice lacking its usual cheerfulness. He climbed into the car and buckled his seatbelt, staring out the window as Mr. Andrews started the engine.
The drive home was quiet, the only sound coming from the faint music playing on the radio. Ashton fidgeted with the strap of his backpack, his thoughts racing. He wanted to ask Delphinia about what Liam had said, but every time he opened his mouth, the words wouldn’t come out.
Finally, as he shifted in his seat , Ashton gathered his courage. "Delphinia?" he asked hesitantly.
"Yes?"
"Do you think..." Ashton trailed off, his fingers tightening around the strap of his backpack. "Do you think I’ll ever have a sibling?"
Delphinia’s eyebrows rose in surprise, but her smile didn’t waver. "That’s an interesting question," she said lightly. "Why do you ask?"
Ashton hesitated, his heart pounding. He could feel his cheeks growing warm, and he looked down at his lap. "Oh... no reason," he mumbled. "It’s fine."
Delphinia glanced at him again, her eyes kind but curious. "Are you sure? You can always talk to me if something’s on your mind."
Ashton nodded quickly, forcing a small smile. "Yeah, I’m sure. It’s nothing."
Delphinia didn’t press him further, though she seemed lost in thought as they arrived home. Ashton unbuckled his seatbelt and climbed out of the car, his backpack slung over one shoulder. As he walked toward the house, he decided he didn’t need to ask her further—at least not yet.
