Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 686: Dream of the Golden Rose_2
"Susanna used to be Claudia’s godmother, right? I remember she was quite resistant to Irason when she was younger, and worried about what she would do in the future. Wouldn’t she be very tired? That kid had quite the personality; Bordelis was just a little indecisive."
"Not too tiring. I also educated Tiffany, Irason’s child, the current Elf Queen,"
Irason interjected proudly.
"Princess, Susanna is the best godmother, although the child she raised isn’t very affectionate towards me..."
"That’s because you’re a child to me, too. Tiffany might still be confused about whether you’re her birth mother or her daughter."
"Susanna! Bad woman! I’m not talking to you anymore!" The Green Dragon Priest, her cheeks puffed up, turned away, leaving the two with a view of her angry back. Princess and Susanna exchanged a smile; "Just cajole her a bit," and they silently completed their eye contact.
"Claudia is very clever, probably because she isn’t related by blood to Irason, she doesn’t have the occasional foolish behavior that Tiffany does."
"Isn’t that wonderful? She can quickly understand what you’re saying."
"Quite the opposite, Claudia is very clever, so she quickly entered her rebellious phase. Neither stern reprimands nor tender coaxing worked."
"I thought you would be a strict person, although you look a bit... soft, I can tell what you’re like from your tone."
"Perhaps as you said, I might have been a bit harsh on the child, maybe... because she doesn’t look like Irason. What about yours? The white dragon with you, that child named Bordelis, how is he?"
Princess nodded slowly, looking at the distant sea horizon.
"Very good, exceptionally good. Bordelis’s personality is like the sea, tolerant, gentle, he’s so obedient that I often worry he might develop some psychological issues—after all, from what I’ve seen in exchanges with other Dragon Priests, everyone else has encountered obstacles. Bordelis, he seems to be the child from another family."
"...Let’s change the subject," Susanna, feeling tired, the Elf Executive who diligently managed the Elf Kingdom for decades felt she truly needed a good rest and put the troublesome matters out of her mind.
"All right then, this beach, I created it together with the White Dragon, based on the dream information provided by Irason, it’s the most beautiful place deep in your heart, Susanna. Irason told me you haven’t seen the ocean. So now you have, and do you want to do some leisure activities?"
"Aside from sunbathing, I want to build sandcastles, go diving, and sail far away!" Irason came to life, her eyes twinkling with little stars, looking eagerly at both of them.
Susanna’s face bore a smile identical to Irason’s.
"Just as I thought."
The White Dragon Priest stood up from her seat, "These all seem like very ordinary activities... I thought you would choose something more thrilling, but okay, ladies, today, you are the stars."
"Let’s build sandcastles!"
To enjoy the fun of sand, all three refrained from using magic and used their hands and various seashell tools along with seawater to model, with each of their castles progressing in order.
Twenty seconds later, Irason’s castle, due to its lord’s inaction, was merged by Susanna’s group of castles, becoming part of a tower.
"Elan, go fetch some water, and don’t get washed away!" Accustomed to assigning small tasks to the Green Dragon Priest to enhance her participation, the Elf Executive began carving reliefs into her towering sand sculptures. Due to unfamiliarity with seawater, this process took quite some time, while the White Dragon Priest, who had already finished work, adorned her high tower sculpture with a snowflake-shaped ice cap.
Susanna noticed a conspicuous glint among the sand Irason had traversed. It wasn’t the reflection of the sun on the grains of sand; the exposed corner was of a similar size to the sand particles, gleaming with the luster of gold.
Susanna walked over. It turned out to be a small metal object buried in the sand, originally covered and obscured by the sand, showing only a trace after being stepped on by Irason.
After uncovering the sand, Susanna saw the full view of the gold.
A Golden Rose hidden in the sand.
This couldn’t belong to Irason; Susanna was familiar with each piece of her jewelry. Irason didn’t have gold ornaments smaller than a baby’s fist because such small trinkets once belonging to her would quickly go missing.
Touching the edge of the Golden Rose’s petals felt a rough granular texture.
"The crude craftsmanship of humans, the work of a young blacksmith." Susanna quickly understood the origin of the Golden Rose; it was a piece of human jewelry that had been lost.
Irason, attracted by the golden shine, was now peering and counting its petals.
"Most likely it fell into the sea. This beach was brought up from the ocean floor by Bordelis, and it may contain gifts brought by the currents, like a pirate’s treasure, for instance."
"Pirate treasure!" Irason cheered like a child, her expectant eyes fixed on Princess, causing the White Dragon Priest some trouble.
"Don’t be silly, dear. Even if it were a pirate’s safe, it would have been smashed by the White Dragon’s agitation of the sand long ago. Perhaps there are many treasures mixed in this sand. If you want a souvenir, you can search for yourself, just like lucky Susanna."
"Hmmm hmmm hmmm, we Druids communicate with nature; with a small beach like this, Susanna could easily turn it over, right, Susanna?" Irason turned her head and saw Susanna still staring blankly at the poorly crafted Golden Rose. A gold ornament of this level shouldn’t be so mesmerizing to the Elf Executive.
