Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 640 - 593: Twilight and Dawn
The soul restoration ritual had ended, and Alianna and Lyle were the first to awaken. They walked out of the Array side by side, with Alianna casting a glancing look at Lyle, who responded to her gaze without any evasion.
The presence of Ghosts made the air in Naslan always damp and cold. Lyle was unsure if it was this dampness that made Alianna’s skin appear even more delicate, her eyes exhibiting an ethereal pallor like portals to a fantastical world.
"What’s wrong?"
Alianna raised her left hand to her cheek, a slight confusion blossoming on her usually indifferent face.
"Lyle, you seem to have become even more interesting. It’s so strange, although I feel like I’ve come to understand you quite well, the deeper I delve, the more secrets I find, like peering into an abyss."
Lyle covered his face, still flushed from the aftermath of an enchanting assault.
"I... I’ll just take that as a compliment."
Nia’s tendrils crawled out from his collar, slithering up Lyle’s face.
"So hot, Nia will cool you down." The temperature plummeted, and Lyle, his face covered in mucus, gave Alianna a helpless smile.
At that moment, the Dragon Priest was tending to the unconscious Twilight Dragon. Helena’s response had allowed them to sigh in relief as they continued their nanny-like vigil.
"Lyle, I want to talk to you."
Mr. Giant Dragon wore a patchwork of fleshy disguises, a fusion of many such disguises that Lyle had modified. Now, Mr. Giant Dragon looked imposing, barely distinguishable from a real Giant Dragon, albeit exuding a sorrowful aura for reasons unknown.
"I’ll be waiting for you in the dining room, don’t miss lunch," Alianna said, leaving her partner in the company of the Giant Dragon.
Lyle looked up at the large face above him.
"Let’s go to the lake, Mr. Giant Dragon."
By the lake, where the mercury serpent Varim lay dormant, Lyle and the Giant Dragon sat side by side along the shore.
"Are you worried, Mr. Giant Dragon?"
After using a variety of methods, Mr. Giant Dragon had finally forged a close bond with the mentally scrambled Twilight Giant Dragon in a month. To be honest, the formation of this intimacy felt like deceiving an ignorant young girl. This had been troubling the high-minded Mr. Giant Dragon, who always came to Lyle, his accomplice, for psychological comfort whenever Hill was asleep.
Why not at other times? Because at other times, the Giant Dragon was continuously by Hill’s side, too cheerful to have a care in the world.
"Those little tricks probably won’t work on Hill once she regains her sanity. Our relationship might revert to how it was before, strangers. Even if it’s just a relationship upheld by lies, I don’t want to lose it."
"But... regaining her sanity is what’s best for Hill."
This feeling of fearing loss while having something valuable, wasn’t that the shared sentiment of a man deeply in love? Because one cherishes, one fears losing. Lyle looked at his teacher, never expecting that respected elder to become like a love-struck novice. Ah, Mr. Giant Dragon died young and had always been an emotional fool.
Lyle had offered similar emotional guidance many times in his former life, adept at the task, being that master in the dormitory without any real-world experience.
"Would you stop liking Hill if she regained her sanity, Mr. Giant Dragon?"
The Giant Dragon grew agitated.
"No matter how Hill’s soul changes, I will always like her!"
Lyle felt odd. Did he not care about the inner self, only the shell of the Giant Dragon?
"Liking her is enough, isn’t it? If Hill forgets you, then pursue her anew. As long as your intentions remain unchanged, what is there to hesitate over? We’ll help you once more, Mr. Giant Dragon. You and she may be the only two Giant Dragons left in the world. You’re the ’Adam’ and ’Eve’ of the Giant Dragons. Do you think there’s any creature more fit for her than you are?"
Somehow, Lyle was reminded of the dog-headed figure deep within Silvette’s soul. It should be fine, right?
The slightly dejected Giant Dragon was reinvigorated, spreading his wings and roaring towards the heavens.
"You’re right! I am going to become the father of dragons! There’s nothing I can’t do!"
"Well said!"
And then the Giant Dragon shrank back down.
"Lyle, you have to help me! Hurry, think of a plan for me!"
"Can’t you just pursue her directly, like finding some common interests to talk about?"
"I know of two topics, Spirit Summoning Studies and about Giant Dragons, but tell me, does Hill prefer corpses or my obsession with Giant Dragons in front of her?"
Lyle was kind of out of options, only able to think of some underhanded tactics, and he had mistakenly mixed up old knowledge with books of this world. Little did he know, in this world, 80 percent of Andrey’s non-academic books came from literary societies.
Just as Lyle and the Giant Dragon were whispering and planning their grand scheme to woo an adult female dragon...
"What are you two plotting?"
"We’re discussing how to pursue... Silvette."
Lyle’s pen dropped as the girl with amethyst eyes stood before him, smiling with her eyes narrowed. The very person they were talking about had shown up.
In her human form, Silvette still possessed the majesty of a dragon, and even the Giant Dragon, who had never seen this appearance, quickly recognized her identity. The Giant Dragon kneeled, turning a dismal gray-white in color.
"It seems you’ve remembered my name well, Mr. Lyle."
At that moment, Lyle didn’t dare breathe too loudly and could only shrink his head like a penguin, gazing at his own shoes.
Silvette’s gaze did not linger on Lyle for too long; she looked up at the Giant Dragon, locking eyes with its draconic eyes.
"I remember you, Mr. Giant Dragon."
"It is my honor, Sil...vette Miss."
Silvette walked over to the edge of the Giant Dragon’s claw, stroking the skin that was a guise, feeling the phalanges beneath it.
"You are not a Giant Dragon yet... but you will be soon. Our memories have not faded, Giant Dragon; we are friends." Seeing the Giant Dragon relax, Silvette then threw a new question at him, "Are you planning to pursue me, Giant Dragon?"
Silvette’s dragonic authority was always present, radiating through her deep purple eyes, exerting dominance directly onto the Giant Dragon. As magical creatures, dragons retained some instincts, and when two dragons met, there was always a hierarchy established.
"Roar!!!!"
The Giant Dragon, created by Lyle as an evil dragon with the Father of All Dragons as its goal, a super monster, could not possibly submit to this weaker Twilight Dragon. It roared, sending back waves of even more terrifying dragonic authority in retaliation. The enraged Giant Dragon openly threatened the female dragon it fancied.
"Yes, I will pursue you, claim you! You will become the consort of the Father of All Dragons, become my Dragon Mother! You belong to me! And you must belong to me!"
Silvette stood still, and Lyle was completely dumbfounded.
The anger in the Giant Dragon had subsided, and it somewhat regretted losing control in its rage; its thought processes had become those of a dragon, thinking with the soul of a Giant Dragon. The former teacher, Mr. Giant Dragon, felt he bore a great deal of responsibility for the situation.
"Miss Silvette, I deeply apolo...
"I accept your courtship."
"?"
Lyle watched the two dragons, feeling like an outsider, completely unable to comprehend.
Silvette’s face flushed.
"That confused Twilight Dragon who knew only to eat, sleep, play, and have fun, that was me too. I accept my past self, and naturally, I accept the feelings I once had. Even though my thoughts were confused at that time, I could still feel who I truly liked, who treated me the best. Though I’m a bit upset about your deception, hearing your roar and declaration..."
"What’s the matter, isn’t it rather dashing and wild, just my type of male? It’s right up my alley!"
Silvette’s manner was somewhat shy.
"Actually, our relationship was set from the start, wasn’t it? Giant Dragons have a custom of nipping at the back of the neck to show intimacy, and my neck has long been marred by you—perhaps it’s fate’s design, our destiny... so..."
"Silvette..." the Giant Dragon called his lover’s name affectionately.
"Giant Dragon..." The Twilight Dragon transformed in an instant, her immense jaw clamping onto the back of the Giant Dragon’s neck, pulling and tearing at the flesh with brutal force. The disguise was ripped apart, showering the grasslands of Naslan with a rain of blood.
The two Giant Dragons tangled with each other.
"So... I must bite back! It hurts so much!!!"
