Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 579 - 532: File Update
Mr. Cabbage was an old Light Bat loyal to the Andrei Academy, and the passage of time had eroded the youthful zeal he once had for his repetitive illumination work. No longer obsessed with elevating his inner life through life sciences, nor with the idea of seeking out fresh ingredients to satisfy his cravings, his daily duties were monotonous and repetitive. Sleeping had become his only habit. It was only because of his own bat-like advantages that a lazy creature like him could survive in Andrei at all. His light was so bright it could almost ignite the entire room’s golden treasures; it was like a tiny sun embedded in a jewel-studded lampstand. Another thing, Mr. Dean actually had a bit of a hard time with the incessant chatter of young people.
Mr. Cabbage turned over in his silk lampshade, glanced down at the scene in the dean’s office, and then closed his heavy eyelids. Today’s dean’s office was still a carbon copy of yesterday’s.
"It’s this unchanging environment that has thrown off my sense of time, making me completely miss the mating season," Mr. Cabbage muttered to himself, weakly complaining a few words before falling back into a deep sleep amidst the rhythmic sounds of writing.
The hand of greed was carrying out its compensated labor on the dean’s desk, with droplets of golden olive oil seeping from the bandages of its mummy wrapping, signs of nurture evident all along its arms. Diamond, ruby, sapphire, and emerald were held between the fingers, yet even in this situation, the thumb and forefinger still pinched a feather quill, writing on a text as heavy as a brick.
The handwriting was surprisingly nice, although the Salvation Association archives hardly needed to be viewed by anyone. As long as the greedy hand could inscribe the information it dictated into the mummy’s curse within the archives, the magnanimous Mr. Dean decided to overlook the oil stains on the pages.
"Update the file for the Salvation Association member [Plague Doctor]."
"Adjust the danger level from [City-State Destroyer] to [Nation Destroyer], as the original supervisor was a monitoring group composed of multiple organization members. The [Plague Doctor] supervisor remains unchanged."
"With the tacit consent of several high-ranking members, including the [Law Enforcer], the juvenile form of the entity known as [Plague Doctor] has entered a mature state. In its normal form, it takes the shape of a human, while in its Evil God form, it becomes a 20-meter-tall black giant, possessing, but not limited to, abilities like mental corruption, fear spreading, and assimilation. Its level of identification with external things has also shifted from acceptance to hostility, but rational communication is still possible, provided one’s personal strength exceeds that of the entity. Small factions worshiping it as a deity are stirring within the City of Wandering, and a few zealous followers have appeared in Black Abyss Hell. It might divide the faith power of [Punishing Angel] in Hell...or perhaps consolidate it. The current situation is acceptable."
"Addendum concerning the [Mechanical God] incident. In this event, the degree of the [Plague Doctor]’s transformation into the Evil God was further enhanced, with malicious proliferation covering the flesh of Crimson, which has ascended to the highest level, and this power has also mutated in the City of Machinery; it is capable of reshaping the twisted mechanical materials of the bodies of the demons of Black Abyss, named [Creator]. It is difficult to assess the danger of this power, but there is no doubt that it presents a new possibility for both Andrei Liches and all races. The group of Dragon Priests, including [Law Enforcer], has already shown a certain degree of eagerness for it."
"In summary, the member [Plague Doctor] still belongs to the safer side of Andrei members, and they possess a quality that could keep our people ’in line’. Regardless, the Andrei forces, led by Serimo Andrei, will show closeness to them."
"After all, there are more than one or two [World Destroyers] by my side."
Mr. Dean finished modifying the Salvation Association member’s file with a tone befitting his style, carefree in the face of numerous issues. Closing the book, the greedy hand leapt into its pile of gold coins. Mr. Dean tossed the file into the void and turned his gaze to the waiter at his side.
"Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Crimson."
"It’s no trouble at all, Mr. Dean." Mr. Crimson smiled faintly, turned to face the dean, and took a small step to the left.
Mr. Dean lowered the broad brim of his hat over his face with a sigh.
"If you don’t want me to give you a beating, put back the collectibles you stole from me."
Mr. Crimson kept smiling, "I don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. Dean."
The wide brim of the wizard’s hat tilted back up, revealing Mr. Dean’s eyes gleaming with a ghostly light.
"Shall I repeat myself, Mr. Crimson. Please — put the Cyclops eyeball amber you’re holding back in its place. Don’t steal an Enchanter’s items, and definitely don’t take my collectibles."
Mr. Crimson gave an apologetic smile and placed the ostrich egg-sized amber on its original stand; the dull yellow amber had a pentagonal pupil at its center, and flaw-like cracks spread from it. The owner of the eye had indeed been pierced through the eye while alive.
"I was just a bit curious; I’ve heard the gaze of Cyclopes can weaken creatures. Let me study it, Mr. Dean."
"That’s because they have an area in their cerebral cortex inscribed with something similar to a curse, an innate magical organ. The eyeball is merely the emitter. I won’t lend it to you because you’ll never return it as it was."
After grasping the basic principle, Crimson’s interest in that eyeball significantly waned, and she returned her focus to the reporting task at hand.
"...to this point, the City of Machinery has lost its threat under the intervention of Plague Doctor, I witnessed it with my own eyes."
Mr. Dean opened his mouth, and a second later, closed it again, without a beard to obscure his expressions, all of which Crimson could see clearly.
"So, Mr. Delusion from the literature club and the Mechanical God have turned into rotten flesh, right..."
"No, they are still alive."
"Hmm? Didn’t you say the crisis has been resolved?"
As Mr. Dean showed a surprised face that said, "Isn’t this standard Lich practice from Andrei?" Crimson continued to explain.
"It seems that Plague Doctor had made preparations well in advance, constraining the blood corruption of Delusion as well as Mechanical God Dorothy to a rather delicate level. The blood corruption devoured most of Dorothy’s body, forcing her core into an energy-saving dormant state, while Mr. Delusion merely switched to a mechanical body. Afterwards, Mr. Delusion adjusted the emotional circuits of the dormant Dorothy."
"It was found that her malice towards the Evil God and the world has disappeared, along with deactivating the highest crisis protocol."
"Which means, the Mechanical God had been contaminated by the Sleeper, Triton, before..."
"I believe so."
Mr. Dean leaned back in his chair, habitually reaching for his non-existent beard.
"Plague Doctor has done quite well."
Crimson revealed a smile.
"Is the Dean worried about them?"
"No, I am just relieved that I don’t have a racial invasion lawsuit on my hands, after all, even if the Mechanical Race dies, it won’t expand the population of the Liches." Mr. Dean picked up his cane and stood up from his seat.
"So, where has our Plague Doctor gone? I’ll give him the lawyer’s fee I saved as a bonus."
"He just so happens not to be at the academy."
"Oh, then has the Plague Doctor returned to Naslan?"
"No, the Dragon Priest took him away." Crimson shrugged, "Since I got involved in the City of Machinery incident under the pretext of extracurricular activities, perhaps the Dragon Priest thought I was competing for his precious apprentice, so..."
"He took the Plague Doctor out under the pretext of White Bone Spirit Summoning Studies extracurricular activities."
