Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 548 - 502 Flaws
Lyle and the others had already left Degonris, the town once shrouded in the gloom of vampires, which was now enduring the blazing fire of Holy Light.
"Burn everything, don’t let a single blood-sucking demon escape! Inquisitors! Every bit of effort you make will become your own glory, and each of our killings is saving a human from harm!"
Algernon bellowed from the high ground.
"Split into squads, pursue those fleeing Fallen, leave no evil behind, burn down the town and the castle for me."
"Yes, Legion Commander!"
The first squad of Inquisitors to move out arrived at Degonris, just in time to see the dragon Silvette flying above their heads.
Inquisitor, "..."
"Captain, that’s a dragon..."
"I’m not blind."
"Should we bring it down?"
The Inquisitor captain turned to face the newcomer, "Can you defeat it? Or do you think we can defeat it together?"
"..."
"Our goal is to sweep the vampires clean, don’t delude yourself into thinking you can be a Dragon Slayer without the strength. Glory is important, but your lives are more important."
"But..."
"No buts, if the sky falls, the Legion Commander will hold it up, and if the Legion Commander can’t hold it, the Angels will. You, a brat whose fuzz hasn’t even grown in yet, better stick to slaughtering vampires!"
"Yes..."
So the Inquisitors picked up torches and began to light the ruins of Degonris.
"Captain, there are some lowly blood servants fleeing here!"
"Burn them! Leave a few for our ’Dragon Slayer kid’ to build courage, and don’t mother let them screw me over one day."
Some other Inquisitors charged directly towards the castle.
Karen stood desolately in front of the castle, watching the distant moon. The flames of Degonris were below it, making the moon resemble a flatbread being roasted over a fire.
"Who’s there!"
The harsh shout from the Inquisitor interrupted Karen’s reverie. The Black Knight stood ready, with Shadow Magic already enveloping Karen.
"It’s me." Karen removed her helmet, her messy hair and blood-stained cheeks, and those eyes that had turned red from weeping.
The approaching Inquisitors saw her face and sent a signal of safety to their comrades.
"It’s Karen Pembroke, the little Angel." The title ’the little Angel’ had long been circulated within the Crusader legion, a female Purifier who was very popular in the Guardian legion, and the Inquisitors had also heard of her a bit.
"Little Angel?" The squad captain approached, "What is the little Angel doing here? Have you been kidnapped? His Grace Raphael is indeed a baby brother."
"Jose, Rosa, the two of you protect the little Angel, I’ll lead the team to dismantle this castle."
The squad captain stepped forward, frowning at Karen’s tearful beauty, "What’s made the little Angel cry, are you hurt?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Jose was a rather clever Paladin. So a Holy Light spell was directly cast upon Karen.
Clever Jose received a heavy punch from the captain, the punch of the iron gauntlet on his helmet ringing like a bell.
"Idiot! In a safe state when encountering an injured person, first find a priest! Are you planning to make the little Angel cry again? Stupid oaf who can’t even console a child!"
"I’m not a child anymore." Karen took the bandage Rosa handed her and wiped her tears, "I’ve grown up, these tears... these tears are the price of growth."
The knights of the Inquisition looked at each other, whispering among themselves.
"Has the little Angel gone mad?"
"How has the little Angel that’s less than 1.6 meters tall grown?"
"Maybe she’s developed a sense of humor."
"Hey, look, is the little Angel about to cry again? Is she still growing?"
"Hahaha, you’re quite the comedian."
The Inquisitor knights, a bunch of villains who kick others when they’re down.
Karen’s tears couldn’t help but fall once more.
The squad leader got angry.
"Cheer her up, you two heartless bastards, how dare you make the Holy Light’s little Angel cry! Are you planning to wrestle with the Guardian Legion or something?"
The Inquisitor knights cowered a bit, holding swords was something they were firm with, but now they seemed a little at a loss.
"Captain, how do you comfort a little girl?"
The squad leader was taken aback, "How do you comfort your own kids?"
Jose curled his lips, proudly declaring, "I’m single, I don’t have kids, so no way!"
Rosa scratched his head, "I haven’t been home for a long time, my daughter has been raised by my wife these past five years. I don’t even know if she will recognize me when I go back this year."
The two Inquisitors refocused their attention back onto their captain, as if waiting for someone experienced to point them in the right direction.
The captain scratched his head, "Mine is a son, he doesn’t cry much, but he sure causes a fuss. Comforting kids must be more or less the same, right? I’ll share my trick with you."
"When my kid gets noisy, I would carve him a toy..."
"Then, with my knightly greatsword, I’d smash the toy to pieces in front of him, and finally, set it on fire. Every time I’m abroad, my son just stares at me with wide eyes, and he doesn’t fuss anymore. He must really look up to me."
"..."
"...Genius, you are truly an educational genius," Jose said admiringly to his captain.
Rosa glanced at Karen’s empty-eyed expression, "But, we don’t have the wood or the time to carve a doll for Karen here, do we?"
Jose and the squad captain entered into an enthusiastic phase of discourse.
"Silly, the little Angel is a Paladin! How could a mere toy satisfy her? We have something ready-made; this is a vampire’s den! We use vampires!"
"Dissect a vampire in front of the little Angel, burn it. The vampire’s blood and screams will definitely cheer the little Angel up!!!"
"Make big, exaggerated movements, yes, like a dramatic performance! We need to shock the little Angel, better control the direction, so she can clearly feel the blood and flames!"
"Bath in the sinner’s blood, listen to the evil’s cries of agony, that’s what a Paladin should revel in!"
"No! I don’t want to! You are demons! You are devils! I regret this! I want to go home!!!" Karen showed her resistance, these Inquisitors, terrifying!
"Little Angel, the Holy Light is your home, we are your family."
"What are you standing around for, go find a vampire already."
"Yes."
Jose and Rosa were on the hunt for materials to "cheer up" Karen.
Jose couldn’t resist chatting with his friend while they searched.
"Rosa, don’t you feel that the artificially pure ones groomed by Lord Raymond might have some psychological issues?"
"...Why do you say that?"
"Because all the Crusader leaders have some psychological flaws, except for the perfect Lord Raymond. Look at those weirdos in the Guardian group, Lord Raphael must have issues too, and the fallen ones are crazy, the new little Angel seems pretty dumb too."
"...Then what do you think our problem is?"
"We Inquisitors have no problem, but don’t you think Lord Saint George is pretty stupid? And he seems to be getting stupider."
"Frankly, I am just glad Lord George never managed a legion, otherwise, we surely wouldn’t be as self-righteous in the Crusades as we are now."
"Maybe."
