Chapter 508: Chapter 469: The Ferocious Wolf Sneers_2

"Sharan Bennett, have you lost your mind? You’ve made a terrible decision, Naranya will be destroyed because of him!"

Verlet’s face had been replaced by gloominess, the sullen look on her face was exactly like that of the terrified man.

"You nobles and wealthy merchants are truly... just as he said, as stupid as pigs and dogs, easily deceived by appearances. Are you surprised? Indeed, after twenty-some years, even I couldn’t see through him, how could you possibly truly understand the inner workings of Ralph. Did you think Ralph was a lone wolf, aloof and inarticulate? Well, he is indeed, but this malicious wolf from Cassandra has found a trustworthy dependency."

Verlet raised her head, revealing a proud smile. "I am the one who dances with the wolf."

"Ralph shares everything with me, the intelligence he’s dug up, his actions and intentions."

"What I know is far more than what you scheming bunch do."

"Ralph indeed has a pollen allergy and finds everyone disagreeable. But first and foremost, he’s an excellent law enforcement officer, so excellent that others overlook his faults. He may dislike the atmosphere of Naranya, but he would never let personal subjectivity dictate his job."

"As for the so-called terror enforcement, ha, Ralph caused the number of complaints to the law enforcement department to increase tenfold, but incidents of drunken brawls and accidental injuries have decreased to a pleasing level. Oh right, and those, the dark industries disturbed by Ralph hidden in the shadows. Sin under the flowers, I was once foolish enough to think it was slander from those jealous and petty people who envy Naranya."

Verlet tossed a stack of shameful documents onto their faces.

"Look, my dear malicious wolf has uncovered what of yours, human trafficking, assassination services, smuggling of poison, and smuggling of contraband, as well as records of bribery. My dear sirs, what else have you done, oh, and about those trade routes Ralph canceled, those were established by Mr. Verubet, right? Could you explain why the trade routes you set up are so close to several bandit camps? Did you ever consider the loss of our merchants’ lives and property? Oh, of course you didn’t, because those are profits you and your bandit friends share. I guess you don’t pay taxes on those, I hope the fortune you’ve devoured can buy your head. And about the new district, those workers, Sir Rand, your dangerous city planning to save costs was banned by Ralph. I didn’t even know my dear malicious wolf had a bit of architecture knowledge. Those workers can now spend time with their children at home, instead of being buried under the new districts you tout. Sir Rand, you’ve been responsible for Naranya’s punishment planning for twenty years, yet the law enforcement department has never once received a report of a work-related injury, not even a scratch! Lord Tyron knighted you for your zero-error planning, but what is the truth? Your knighthood was built upon the blood and bones of Naranya!!!"

"Merchants, nobles, without Ralph, I would still be that smiling good commissioner, and you would still be those amiable noble benefactors. Naranya is truly too wonderful, so wonderful that it disgusts me." The law enforcement officers restraining these criminals unconsciously intensified their grip, but the screams only served to stoke their anger.

"Oh, and unlucky Shakting Family, the trumped-up charges. Of course, my dear sirs, that was our plan, and you walked right into the trap, didn’t you? You were afraid, weren’t you? Afraid that Ralph would find evidence of your crimes and subject you to the same trial, but you still underestimated our new commissioner."

Verlet revealed an intensely furious and twisted smile.

"Continuing our previous topic, Ralph caused some changes in Naranya, and I firmly believe that cleaning out a few vermin, causing a little bit of trouble will make my homeland better. Even if it can’t, hehehehe, as long as it reduces beings in human clothing like you, even if Ralph turns Naranya into another Cassandra, I wouldn’t care!!!"

The pale-faced crowd was escorted to prison, and before leaving the law enforcement department, Verlet called out to them.

"Do you know what makes me most angry about you all?"

"While setting up this trap, I made a bet with dear Ralph."

"I pretended to have personal disagreements and continued to go to work cluelessly, while Ralph personally visited to bring down the Shakting Family. We bet to see whether you would come to me to complain or if you would reveal your true savage nature when dealing with Ralph."

"He won."

"What infuriates me the most is that, even though Ralph kicked in your doors, confiscated your wealth, spit in your face for your ugliness, none of you cowards dared to openly resist him!"

"Ralph you didn’t dare to provoke, but me? Am I easy to bully? Is that it!!!"

When Verlet arrived at Ralph’s temporary residence in Naranya, five law enforcement officers huddled on the steps in front of the house like quails, they were originally Verlet’s choices to protect Ralph.

"The commissioner told us to wait here, he’s in the room, and he hasn’t left."

Verlet, fueled by frustration, kicked him and said, "I told you to stay close to him, never letting him out of your sight!"

"But the Superintendent said..."

Veins bulged on Verlet’s forehead, as she got ready to teach her obedient lackey a lesson.

The door swung open.

Ralph Butler, having shed his constable uniform, emerged wearing a pitch-black coat, carrying a slender briefcase, and walked out the front door.

The constable’s subordinate stood up, standing straight at the side of the steps.

When that brooding face was exposed to the warm sunlight of Naranya, even the sunshine seemed to cool down a bit.

"You’re going on a long journey," Verlet said, standing in front of Ralph with her head held high, blocking his path, their eyes locked, her nose a few centimeters from Ralph’s aquiline one. "Even if everyone in Naranya hates you, my big bed will always welcome you. If your fragile heart is wounded, I can give you some comfort right now."

Ralph rolled his eyes, "Do you always have to steer a normal conversation in that direction?"

Verlet nodded solemnly, "The blood of the Butler family can make my stubborn old dad give in, and we’re in the throes of passion, sleeping separately would be too strange, wouldn’t it?"

Ralph held his forehead, "Did you add something to your memory again? Why didn’t the psychological suggestions I planted in your mind work."

Verlet’s eyes widened, "The knee-pillow services you give me daily, there was an ulterior motive!!!"

The whites of Ralph’s eyes were expanding.

"My original words were a head massage to relieve fatigue, so you call using grappling technique to pin down my thigh a knee-pillow?"

"Didn’t you fail to protest? Mr. Tsundere, so what have you done to me? Made me fall deeply in love?"

Facing Verlet’s sparkling eyes, Ralph shifted his gaze away, "It’s not that I’m rejecting you, Verlet, but you’re sometimes... no, always too enthusiastic. I’m trying to find a balance between work and personal matters. I have adjusted your feelings for me to the initial phase where we can communicate normally, and I do it every time. But each time I hypnotize you again, it always resets back to the threshold."

"I didn’t have the thought of distorting your thoughts, plus your feelings don’t seem to be that easy to twist either," Ralph said with a slight smile.

"No wonder I feel like it’s love at first sight every time I see you again. Is this your unique ’flirting’ skill, Ralph?"

Ralph, resigned to his fate, shrugged, "Interpret it as you will; I seem to be getting used to it."

"The security work in Naranya has entered a peaceful phase, my lady. Would you like to travel with me?"

"A honeymoon? Of course, my dear. This is the first time you’ve been so proactive. Where are we going? What are we going to do?"

"Degonris, to hunt vampires."

A sinister smile appeared on Ralph Butler’s face as a crumpled letter rustled in his pocket, swaying in the abrupt, chilly wind.
