Abyss Summoner-Chapter 188 - 185: Looking Forward
Lu Wei dragged his weary body home.
His sister had already fallen asleep. The logistics team didn’t have much work, but for a child only seven years old, it wasn’t exactly leisurely.
The camp does not raise wastes.
Even a weed must show its value, or else there is only one outcome: being kicked out of the camp.
Lu Wei did not resent this. Though his sister was young, she did tasks within her capability, and thanks to the patrol team, there was no deliberate bullying during her work.
A warm house, food to fill the belly, and security; compared to the hell-like environment outside, the work they did now was nothing. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The girl didn’t sleep soundly. Her entire fair right leg was exposed. At this moment, she lay comfortably in bed, seemingly dreaming, with a hint of a smile on her lips.
People should look forward.
Cannot always live in the past.
Although his sister often still felt sad about their parents’ death, she was waking up from nightmares less and less.
The dead are already dead.
Those lucky enough to survive should carry on the will of the deceased.
Lu Wei affectionately watched his sister. In this apocalypse, the two siblings had relied on each other until now. It could be said that this little girl was his spiritual sustenance and the greatest motivation for persisting for so long.
He tucked the little girl’s leg into the quilt, then took a deep look at the sleeping angel, and carefully picked up the toiletries and left the room.
Most of the people around were already asleep; the hallway seemed somewhat empty, but there was still some faint light, making it not so scary.
Lu Wei slowly took off his clothes, revealing lean and firm muscles. The Personal Guard camp’s meals were very good, three meals a day, each containing meat. Compared to the exhaustion a few days ago, his mental state had improved significantly.
Perhaps because he had lived hard days for too long, initially, Lu Wei even thought the meals were somewhat extravagant. Insect meat was cut into chunks and placed in everyone’s bowl, and even the chef was a head chef from a restaurant during peaceful times. Gao Chao’s culinary skills ensured that the cooked insect meat was free from any fishy taste, and instead had a fragrance comparable to beef.
Food was forbidden to be taken away.
If anyone was found secretly taking food, they would be lightly kicked out of the Personal Guard camp, and severely expelled from the camp, never to be welcomed again.
Order originates from rules.
On this land, everyone must abide by the rules around them; this cannot be violated!
Lu Wei took off his clothes, then looked at the bruises on his body, silent and expressionless. It couldn’t even be called bruises anymore; the entire arm had turned black and purple.
The Personal Guard camp’s treatment was very good, but it also required corresponding returns.
According to different talents, the previous five hundred recruits were assigned to different instructors for training.
[Ms. Cat]
Lu Wei still couldn’t forget the shock on his face the first time he saw Ms. Cat.
Ms. Cat was a young girl not much older than him, but she looked somewhat special. She had two furry ears and a flexible tail.
Rather than saying she was a person, she was more like a cat demon.
A new official fires three shots; Flora pursued speed in everything. During their first encounter, there was no so-called opening speech, but a record of knocking down over thirty people in five minutes earned her the trust of everyone.
The training Flora arranged was very special: swinging a dagger two thousand times daily, kicking a thousand times, five hundred squats, and a twenty-kilometer running warm-up.
This was extremely monotonous and painful special training.
Lu Wei’s injuries were left during training, as well as the punishment for unfinished training.
Originally, there were a hundred and thirty-three people under Ms. Cat. After a week, only sixty-three remained, with more than half eliminated.
Most were expelled due to poor fitness, and a small number couldn’t persist and voluntarily requested to withdraw.
Lu Wei’s performance was not outstanding; he was far from being a seed member, ranking at the bottom among the sixty-three. Reality isn’t a story; he had no shocking talent, and his fitness was exceedingly poor. Some well-intentioned members often tried to talk him into quitting.
But Lu Wei didn’t choose to leave.
If he couldn’t finish in an hour, he’d take two. If he couldn’t finish during the day, he’d continue at night!
Though he lacked talent, Lu Wei used double the time others did to earn the opportunity to stay.
He wasn’t isolated; if it were just him alone, Lu Wei wouldn’t risk his life for special training. His sister was still in a growth phase; he needed to find her nutritious food.
Members of the Personal Guard camp received five pounds of insect meat weekly; he needed that meat to nourish his sister’s body.
As for the pain...
He would get used to it.
Lu Wei placed a hot, damp towel on his arm, and immediately, a tingling sensation spread throughout his body. He gritted his teeth but made no sound.
He did not want his sister to know his situation; this was his last pride as a brother.
Moreover, apart from the insect meat, Lu Wei found himself gaining strength as well. Ms. Cat’s training was monotonous but very effective.
As the number of dagger swings increased, Lu Wei’s speed began to become swift.
Practice makes perfect.
This might be the truth Ms. Cat wanted to teach them.
If he encountered the two jerks who had almost assaulted his sister again, Lu Wei was confident he could end their lives within a minute.
In surviving the apocalypse, he had fought, even killed. Although in the eyes of an ordinary person, he was just an eighteen-year-old kid, Lu Wei understood he had his own taboos.
Sister.
She was his last family and closest reliance. He would not allow anyone to harm this lovely little angel, and should anyone or any creature attempt to harm her, Lu Wei would pierce their heart with a dagger.
Lu Wei removed the dagger from his waist. Swinging it two thousand times daily, unknowingly, he had grown familiar with his "old partner."
Beyond physical fitness, Lu Wei’s mastery of the dagger seemed almost innate. The swiftly moving dagger almost became a blur; his right hand was exceptionally adept, even acting defensively before his brain issued a command.
Indeed.
When heaven closes a door, it kindly leaves a window.
After tidying up everything, Lu Wei lay on the bed. He took one last look at his sleeping sister and closed his weary eyes.
Tomorrow will be better.
For everyone living under Order, this had already become a universally known saying.
