Absolute Death Game-Chapter 331 - 99: Return to the Starting Point
Qin Shimoon looked at the ordinary arrangement in the room before her eyes, yet within her heart surged speechlessness; she had actually come back to life, truly unexpected.
She was very familiar with the performance and power of firearms, and with the injuries she sustained before, her death had been almost certain. It was unimaginable that she had been healed like this—the power of Spell was indeed magical.
In her heart, she was uncertain whether to feel lucky or regretful. Perhaps dying outright wouldn’t have been too bad, but now that she was alive again, she should cherish life even more, shouldn’t she?
The images she had just witnessed still lingered in her mind, now seeming like a bizarre, distant dream, so unreal as if it had never happened, merely a figment of her desperation.
The images had become blurry, much like dreams she had in the past, where she couldn’t recall the specifics, only a vague memory of something important in them.
She propped herself up with difficulty, feeling an unusual warmth. Looking down, she discovered she was wearing new clothes—a pink cotton nightgown. Without a doubt, this must have been Xiao Buli’s doing. The thought of her body being seen completely made Qin Shimoon sigh heavily; after more than a decade in the mortal world, few had taken advantage of her, but now, having left the organization, she had still ended up compromised.
She opened the nightgown, and to her slight surprise and pleasure, her skin was white and delicate without any scars, making her once again marvel at the power of Spell.
But every time she thought of the Ancestral Dragon, she clenched her teeth in rage. Being betrayed once was bad enough, but getting sold out twice was a real betrayal. She had never expected the Ancestral Dragon would actually send someone to assassinate her. She had hoped Ancestral Dragon would eliminate Xiao Buli and save her. Now it seemed that compared to her life, they valued the safety of their secrets more.
She had long known what the Ancestral Dragon’s people were like, but experiencing it firsthand was another matter entirely.
"Hmph, you play your first move, and I’ll play my fifteenth," Qin Shimoon muttered, thinking as she got off the bed and moved her muscles around. She still felt Weak, but it was no longer a serious issue.
Standing up, she was about to thoroughly inspect the room when she suddenly realized she was clutching something in her hand. When she opened her palm, she was startled to find that what she held was a square folded from grid paper.
Such paper was rarely seen nowadays, and Qin Shimoon vaguely remembered using a writing book made of similar paper as a child. However, the paper in her hand looked very old and seemed to have quite some years on it. When she unfolded the grid square, she found many words written on it with a coin, in scribbly handwriting that resembled a primary school student’s messy scrawling and was also somewhat blurred. But reading the content on the paper, Qin Shimoon trembled with excitement; the experiences she had dreamt of suddenly became clear again, she remembered it all—the old man, the whispers in the dark, and what the old man had said about lifting the Soul Contract’s binds.
Could all this have been real? Could it have really occurred, in another world whose nature she couldn’t quite grasp? There was always a sense of unreality about it, but the paper in her hand was so very real. However, if this was true, things were becoming complicated indeed.
Better to wait and see, Qin Shimoon thought.
She memorized the content written on the paper and crumpled it into a ball, tossing it into the garbage can. Not quite at ease, she then took out a lighter and set it on fire.
Watching the ancient paper turn to ashes, Qin Shimoon finally breathed a sigh of relief; this was something he must not find out.
After doing all this, she finally had the time to properly observe the room she was in.
This was a typical bachelor apartment with only one bedroom, where she was lying, a computer by the bed, a very small living room, and a kitchen outside. She estimated that the whole apartment was no more than fifty square meters.
The view from the window was ordinary street scenery, and since the apartment was on a high floor, she had a long view. She observed the streetscape outside, then shockingly realized she recognized this place; a landmark in the distance looked very familiar. Wasn’t this the city where Qilin Studio was located?
Had she really come full circle and returned to this place? Qin Shimoon couldn’t help but feel a mixture of laughter and tears.
Suddenly the door opened without warning, and Xiao Buli entered, carrying bags full of food and daily necessities. Seeing Qin Shimoon, Xiao Buli’s face lit up with surprise, "Hehe, you’re awake."
"Thank you," Qin Shimoon said sincerely. Although she had been somewhat held against her will, after all, the other party had saved her life.
"No need to thank me, I did this for myself, after all. If you had died, who would I get information from? You know, I almost lost my life for you," Xiao Buli said, not minding Qin Shimoon’s feelings, "Come, help me sort these things out; it’s been a long time since I’ve been back, and the house is empty, so I bought some extra stuff."
Qin Shimoon agreed and organized the items neatly.
"Tell me what you like to eat; I’m going to make lunch. Whatever you want, I’ll cook it for you," Xiao Buli said.
Qin Shimoon picked up a pack of chicken wings, which she relished as cola chicken wings, but before she could speak, a thought suddenly crossed her mind. While pondering, she picked up a bunch of celery—the food she despised the most on an ordinary day.
"I want to eat stir-fried celery," Qin Shimoon said very calmly, yet her heart was anything but serene.
(I can’t believe I said it, I can actually ignore the constraints of the contract now. Could everything that old man said be true?) A mix of surprise and joy entangled in Qin Shimoon’s heart, her complexion changing incessantly.
Xiao Buli, however, gave her a strange look, thinking it was just a bunch of celery after all, was it so solemn? "OK, leave it to me, just wait to eat," he said.
As he spoke, he took the bunch of celery and began to prepare it,
Qin Shimoon tried not to show her excitement, pulled over a chair, and sat down next to him, enjoying Xiao Buli’s service as she was rightfully a patient.
Xiao Buli’s cooking movements were professional, at least he looked the part. It’s not surprising, considering he has been living alone and taking care of himself, cooking was hardly a challenge for him.
Watching Xiao Buli expertly ignite the fire to heat water, blanch the celery and then stir-fry it with oil and slices of meat, Qin Shimoon pondered.
"Is this your home?" she asked.
"You could say that, at least I lived here before I met you guys. Being self-sufficient, it was quite all right," he replied.

It’s evident, thought Qin Shimoon, considering the danger and opportunities she had brought to him. She felt a bit helpless thinking about it; after all, it was her idea to advertise for recruitment. If not for that idea, Xiao Buli wouldn’t have joined the company, and she wouldn’t be in the situation she was now. Was this a classic case of reaping what one sows?
"I’m sorry," she uttered in a voice that was almost a murmur.
"Sorry? What for?" he asked.
Qin Shimoon looked up at him and lightly voiced her thoughts.
To her surprise, Xiao Buli laughed and said, "It’s nothing, in fact, I should thank you. How else could I have obtained such great Strength?"
Seeing Xiao Buli’s smug expression made Qin Shimoon’s blood boil, "To gain something, one must pay a price. The more you gain, the greater the cost. You’ve obtained such great Strength; have you never considered what you will have to pay in return?"
Xiao Buli thought there was no need for her reminder; he looked at Qin Shimoon indifferently, "Whatever the cost, it’s worth it. At least right now, you are the one imprisoned, and I am not." This left Qin Shimoon speechless.
"Aha, finally done stir-frying, come on, try my cooking," Xiao Buli said, perhaps feeling the atmosphere a bit tense, with a bit of an exaggerated tone.
While speaking, Xiao Buli put the dish on a plate, set it on the table, and after being sautéed in peanut oil, the celery and meat slices were emitting an appetizing fragrance and glistening with oil, looking extremely tempting.
Next to the electric frying pan, the rice cooker was puffing out puffs of steam. Opening the lid released an immediate burst of the aroma of rice.
There wasn’t much rice made, just enough for two large bowls. Being able to precisely calculate how much rice would yield the exact amount of cooked rice was one of the skills Xiao Buli acquired through his bachelor life.
As Xiao Buli sat down, he glanced at Qin Shimoon, "What are you waiting for, come and eat."
Qin Shimoon hesitated for a moment but eventually came to sit down. Sitting face to face, Qin Shimoon found the scene before her strangely foreign; it felt like many years since she’d had a meal like this.

Due to her relationship with the Ancestral Dragon, she always ate alone or with other trainees. Once she started going on missions, things didn’t change much. Most of her time was spent at the base. Even when out on missions, it was a case of eating whatever was available. On rare occasions, she got the chance to attend lavish dinners but often under urgent mission conditions which left her with no mood to enjoy food. As for homemade meals like this, they were an entirely new experience for her.
Lifting the spoon and chopsticks, Qin Shimoon took a slice of meat and put it in her mouth. The ordinary flavor somehow tasted unusual at this moment.
"Eat some celery, don’t you like it the most?" he asked.
Qin Shimoon smiled wryly, nodded, and started chewing on a piece. Indeed, the taste was as bad as ever.
Despite its poor taste, she ate with joy. The thought of finally being free brought uncontrollable happiness to the surface. (To be continued.
