Abnormal Gourmet Chronicle-Chapter 880 - 437: Life (Part 4)_2
"Master Jiang said to let me help you carry things home. You're not well and shouldn't lift heavy objects. You shouldn't go out either. The doctor said you shouldn't catch the wind," the apprentice stubbornly said, jumping up to grab the basket directly from Qin Wan's hand and carrying one on each arm.
"I'm not in confinement, why shouldn't I catch the wind? I have a bowl of bird's nest every morning and chicken soup every evening, almost like a noblewoman. What can't I lift? I cooked all the eggs by myself today," Qin Wan laughed and looked up to see Chen Qiusheng coming over, taking a few steps to greet him, "Master Chen, long time no see."
"Today's my family's seventh one hundred-day celebration, I cooked some red eggs to bring over. Normally, we should host a feast, but I've been unwell and spent a bit more, so Bohai suggested keeping it simple. I'll invite you for a simple meal at my place when there's time, as a celebration for the little one."
"You don't need to bring gifts when you come for the meal."
"Oh, that's not acceptable, sister-in-law. You and Master Qin are blessed with a seventh son, gifts are a must. I'll bring my boy along; he loves playing with your sons, but he often gets sick after playing, so I hesitate to let him out."
Qin Wan nodded, "He's unwell and needs to be well cared for. I heard from my Bohai that you're planning to buy an Attendant Student for Ping'an to play with. I think that's a good idea. Ping'an is young, and staying home all the time isn't good for him. He needs to interact more with kids his age."
"I've already bought one," Chen Qiusheng pointed at Xia Sheng, "A farmer's child, knows some words, quite smart, and well-behaved. I brought him here today to see the world. I've been busy lately, and Manager Lu plans to recruit more apprentices and helpers. I'll let him try; if he has talent, he can learn a few dishes, which will help take care of Ping'an in the future."
"And this child is..." Qin Wan looked at Zhao Cheng'an.
Before Chen Qiusheng could speak, Zhao Cheng'an proactively introduced himself loudly, "Hello, Mrs. Jiang, I'm here for the job application. I had nowhere to stay, but Mr. Chen was kind enough to let me stay for a night."
"Mrs. Jiang, can I have a red egg?"
The apprentice next to Qin Wan glared at Zhao Cheng'an, probably irritated by his loud voice, fearing he'd scare Qin Wan.
Qin Wan, with a good-natured smile, said, "Of course, I brought extra especially today."
"Master Chen, my fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh are still at home, and Hui Qin can't handle them all, so I'll head back first."
After saying that, Qin Wan left, with the apprentice carrying the basket and food box closely following him. Chen Qiusheng looked back at Zhao Cheng'an helplessly, his expression saying it wasn't worth bickering with a fool.
"I'll get you a red egg, stay here and don't move." Chen Qiusheng went to the back kitchen and brought back two red eggs, one for each. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Xia Sheng carefully tucked the red egg into his pocket, while Zhao Cheng'an happily started eating it right away.
Chen Qiusheng was there to work, and he casually grabbed an older worker to keep an eye on Zhao Cheng'an, while he went into the back kitchen. Qin Huai curiously followed him.
Qin Huai had been to Taifeng Building in Chen Huihong's memory, but hadn't really been to the back kitchen because of the distance. Chen Huihong was purely a diner and an actor, focusing activities at the window on the first floor and the 2nd-floor private room, both far from the kitchen, making it inaccessible for Qin Huai.
This time, in Zhao Cheng'an's memory, Qin Huai had a large range of activity and could follow Master Chen into the back kitchen for a good observation.
The back kitchen of Taifeng Building was very large.
Though it's a standard old-fashioned kitchen from last century without modern technology, you can tell it's well-managed, with strict hierarchy and order.
Areas for washing vegetables, preparing, and cooking are far apart. Qin Huai could even tell that vegetables, poultry, game, and river/seafood were processed in separate areas.
Meanwhile, it was the first time Qin Huai saw Jiang Chengde, who could casually make S-level locust flower buns.
As an excellent chef, Jiang Chengde was undoubtedly robust in this era, with muscles evident under his clothes, capable of taking on at least five people. However, Master Jiang didn't seem to be in a good mood, looking very serious, surrounded by three young boys who bore some resemblance to him, clearly his sons.
"Wei Jin, I've told you many times, don't just focus on speed when cutting vegetables. Your hands need to be steady, your heart calm. Wei Ze has practiced a year more than you; what's there to compare with him?"
"Wei Ming, continue with your cutting, don't let my words affect you."
Seeing Chen Qiusheng arrive, Jiang Chengde smiled a greeting towards his colleague, "I heard, Old Chen, you brought two for apprentice application. Relatives of yours?"
Chen Qiusheng held his forehead, with "I shouldn't have brought Zhao Cheng'an home last night" written all over his face, saying helplessly, "How quickly things spread; just two kids, one as an Attendant Student for my Ping'an, the other... a not so bright fool."
"A fool?" Jiang Chengde was taken aback but didn't ask more, "Well, don't waste time. Bring them in to see if they have any talent."
"Manager Lu went out of town and won't be back until around noon. While you were off yesterday, Manager Lu said I can check on the apprentice applicants; if they meet the criteria, they can stay; right now, we're indeed short-staffed."
"Prince Fu's second son is getting married next month, and we are contracted for it."
