Abnormal Gourmet Chronicle-Chapter 718 - 364: Xu Nuo (Part 3)
Xu Nuo stayed with Shi Dadan until he arrived at his place before heading back.
Shi Dadan also lived in the staff building of the cotton mill, but his was a single room. The room was barely over ten square meters, an ordinary small single room with very simple furniture, lacking anything that could be considered home appliances, and no private bathroom. At first glance, it seemed even less than Xu Nuo’s room.
But Shi Dadan obviously didn’t care about this. As long as he could have carbs every meal and sleep under a bridge, he was fine, let alone having a single room now. Something to be grateful for.
Upon returning to his place, the first thing Shi Dadan did was wash his lunch box, followed by washing his face, changing clothes (another set of work clothes), and sitting cross-legged on the bed to look at primary school textbooks.
Shi Dadan squinted at the sunset and managed to read a few pages of the book, quickly slipping into a sleepy state, eyelids fighting to stay open. Without much hesitation, Shi Dadan turned on the radio, lowered the volume, lay down, closed his eyes, and slept.
In less than a minute, snoring started.
Qin Huai: ...Impressive.
Nothing to criticize here, truly impressive. Shi Dadan was also fortunate. When crossing the tribulation in his first life, he encountered Xu Nuo, the spirit reincarnated, who helped arrange a job and provided food and drink.
Otherwise, with this relaxed state, he wouldn’t dream of moving to the city, and would only be able to live as a hermit in the mountains. If he lived long enough, perhaps he’d be discovered by local villagers and journalists decades later and featured in a few episodes of "Approaching Science."
Shi Dadan, with his excellent sleep quality, slept almost until dawn. Qin Huai’s movements this time were minimal, as he stayed in Shi Dadan’s single room and watched him sleep all night, even counting the times he turned over in his sleep.
After waking up, Shi Dadan first washed the dirty clothes he had changed out of yesterday, hung them out to dry, then put his lunch box into his satchel and cheerfully went to work.
Shi Dadan left very early. Even though his room didn’t have a clock to check the time, Qin Huai estimated he left before 7 o’clock. The dormitory area and the residential area of the textile mill weren’t far from the factory area, taking at most 20 minutes to walk to the factory, making Shi Dadan’s departure time an early one for work.
Qin Huai followed behind Shi Dadan, watched him skillfully navigate his way early into the textile mill, and noticed the security guards at the gate seemed unfazed by his early arrival for work. Shi Dadan didn’t head to join the convoy, but instead went straight to the canteen warehouse; he even had a key to it. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Qin Huai watched Shi Dadan open the warehouse door and fetch a bucket and a ladle.
Qin Huai: ???
Then Qin Huai watched Shi Dadan carrying the bucket straight to the sink, filled it with water, and then went directly to a nearby vegetable field to meticulously water the plants.
At that point, Qin Huai couldn’t help but sigh, it really was a perfect match for his skills.
As a child who grew up farming at the Sanmalu Children’s Welfare Institute, Qin Huai could very well judge, based on his extensive experience, that Shi Dadan couldn’t farm at all.
The watering was casual, here a sprinkle, there a splash, all based on mood, and even the weeding was done casually. However, Qin Huai had to admit, all the vegetable patches that Shi Dadan watered grew extraordinarily well, as if each plant was putting all its effort into growing, full of vitality.
The auspicious beast buff from Dang Kang was indeed overpowered.
As Shi Dadan was watering, people from the cafeteria began arriving for work. By the time he’d finished his chores in the field, the smell of breakfast was already wafting from the cafeteria. Shi Dadan finished the field work almost precisely on time and headed into the cafeteria with his satchel for breakfast.
Breakfast was modest; two meal vouchers for two servings, consisting of thick porridge made from beans and mixed grains, a steamed cornbread, and two large vegetable buns kindly gifted by the cafeteria chefs.
Qin Huai watched Shi Dadan devour his breakfast voraciously, clean his lunch box, and then joyfully head to work with his satchel.
Xu Nuo was right, Shi Dadan was extremely cautious when driving. Even if there were no pedestrians on the road, Shi Dadan’s driving speed was not considered fast, and he indeed methodically checked the vehicle thoroughly before departing, verified the destination and the cargo list, listened and observed carefully while driving, practically engraving caution into his bones.
No wonder the team captain valued Shi Dadan.
Today, Shi Dadan was helping the meat processing plant deliver goods to the production team. Before departing, Qin Huai overheard something about the drivers at the meat processing plant being insufficient, borrowing people from the textile mill. This sort of thing seemed quite common.
The delivery route was straightforward, first driving to the meat processing plant to load goods, then going to the production team, finally returning with an empty truck. Shi Dadan didn’t dawdle along the way, departed early, and instead of staying at the production team for lunch, he took a few white flour buns and headed back, leaving himself plenty of time to catch crabs.
Friends with crab catching experience know that crabs, unless they overflowed from the river due to overpopulation, normally need to be caught like fish or trapped in crab baskets.
Dang Kang clearly didn’t belong to normal circumstances, nor did a fully completed Dang Kang who hadn’t failed his tribulation.
Shi Dadan brought two bamboo baskets, which he had found in the cafeteria warehouse in the morning, searched for the largest ones.
Then Qin Huai saw him find a relatively secluded place, with clear water, and where no meat, nor crabs, were visible in the stream, carrying two bamboo baskets to the stream.
Placing the bamboo baskets into the stream, Shi Dadan returned to the truck to wait, eating a bun while waiting.
Qin Huai wanted to look towards the west, but unfortunately, the distance was too far to see, so he had to stand by the truck waiting for Shi Dadan to finish eating his bun.
After finishing the bun, Shi Dadan didn’t move, presumably because he found the sunlight nice and decided to take a comfortable nap by leaning back on the seat backrest.
