A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 93: On Lara’s side
Lisa stepped back from Lara’s unconscious body. Her eyes were cold and angry, and she placed her hand on her hips as she waited for Lara to stand up.
"Stop pretending to be unconscious and stand the fuck up, bitch," Lisa snapped.
Lara didn’t move.
Lisa touched her with the tip of her toes.
"I said stand up!" she snapped.
Lara’s body remained unmoving. A tendril of fear snaked into Lisa’s spine, and she took a step back.
Lazarus stepped forward. The bodyguard was very pissed and beyond angry at how Lara was treated, but he had been given direct orders from Curtis to not interfere with anything that has to do with his mother.
He didn’t know how far away exactly he was supposed to be, but now that his boss’s wife was unconscious, Lazarus knew he had to step in.
"Please step away from her, ma’am," he said, trying to sound as polite as possible.
Lisa sneered at him.
"Or what? What are you going to do, arrest me?" she spat at him.
Lazarus said nothing. His expression remained bland, and his gaze bore into Lisa’s eyes without flinching.
Curtis’s sister, Laura, stepped forward.
"Step away from the woman, mum," she said quietly.
Lisa scoffed at her daughter’s words, but she did as Laura said.
Lazarus bent down and he gently picked Lara up.
He carried her down the hallway, leaving Lisa and Laura standing in the hallway before the emergency operating room.
Lisa slumped into the chair they just vacated, and Laura took her seat beside her.
"I don’t like that woman. And I don’t think I ever will," Lisa said. There was a tone of derision in her voice, and Laura sighed at her mother’s words.
"I don’t know how you feel about her matters, mum," she said quietly.
Lisa turned judgemental eyes at her daughter.
"How could you say that? She is an intruder! She took your brother away from us and I am pretty sure he is lying on that operating table because of her," she snapped.
Laura gave her mother a soft, sad smile.
"I don’t think so, Mum. For starters, Lara was sitting here, waiting for Curtis. If she was really a gold digger, I think she would be using this as an opportunity to...I don’t know, steal from him? Also, did you see how she looked? That woman looked like shit. Her eyes were puffy and red as if she had been crying for a long time. Her skin was pale. And she fainted at the slightest touch. She was exhausted, and I am pretty sure it is because her husband is there, holding on for dear life," she explained.
Lisa gaped at her daughter.
"What the hell, Laura? I thought you were on my side. Why are you suddenly fixated on how that witch looks?" she snapped.
Laura reached out to squeeze her mother’s hands.
"I am not saying that I am not on your side, mum. I’m just trying to explain what I saw to you. Maybe Lara is not as bad as we think she is. Maybe she really does love Curtis for who he is and not for what he can offer. Maybe we have been misjudging her all these while."
Lisa’s eyes burned with anger as she yanked her hand away from her daughter’s grip.
"No. No, no and no. I will not listen to a word of this anymore. Don’t you dare repeat those words again," she warned.
Laura sighed and tried to speak again.
"But mum..." she started to say, but Lisa cut her off.
"No. I stand by my words. That woman is not good enough for Curtis. She is a gold digger and no amount of placating words from you is going to change my mind. So stop talking about it, Laura. Do not make me pissed."
There was a sharp edge in Lisa’s voice, and Laura realised that her mother’s mind was made up.
She knew that if she pushed the issue any further, Lisa was going to lose her shit. Laura wasn’t willing to get in trouble with her mother, so she clamped her mouth shut.
But in the deepest corner of her mind, Laura started to root for Lara and her brother. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Lara’s eyes blinked open.
She looked around, and a sigh slipped past her lips when she discovered that she was in a hospital room.
Memories of what happened flooded her brain, and she felt a sharp pain in her soul when she remembered Curtis’s accident.
She also recalled Lisa’s accusation, and guilt slammed into her like a boulder.
The woman had been right in a sense. Afterall, Curtis had only gotten out of the car because she asked him to.
She tried to shake the guilt away to no avail. It was lodged deep into her bones, and Lara hated how horrible it made her feel.
The door opened, and Lazarus stepped in.
"You’re awake," he said as he closed the door behind him.
"How long have I been out?" she asked as she tried to stand up. The bodyguard rushed to her side.
"You’ve been out for almost six hours. Why are you standing up? Where are you going?" he asked as he halted her movements.
Lara held his gaze.
"I need to go and see my husband. He is out of the operating room, right? I need to see him. Is he alright? Is he sleeping?"
The words poured out of her, and Lara saw a flicker in Lazarus’s eyes at her questions.
She paused, her eyes narrowed as she stared at him.
"Did something... happen?" she asked.
Lazarus sighed and took a step back.
"The boss is fine. The surgery went very well, and he has been moved into a ward. I wanted to have them place you guys side by side, but his mother was... against the idea," he explained.
"So? As long as he’s alright. My husband is fine, right?" she asked.
Lazarus ran a hand through his hair.
"He’s alright, but there is a tiny issue."
Lara stiffened. Lazarus went on.
"The boss is in a coma."
