A few minutes later, Naeku slowly opened her eyes again. Her expression was slightly confused as she blinked and scanned the room. She immediately frowned when she noticed the strange expressions on Erik and his family.

"What’s wrong?" she asked, with a hint of worry, before focusing on Elora with a raised eyebrow. "Weren’t you going to activate the sigil?"

Elora pursed her lips and, to Naeku’s surprise, appeared a little guilty. It was Erik who answered with a sigh. "She did activate it, Naeku. You’ve already gone through it, in fact."

"Oh…" the werepanther immediately deflated, appearing devastated as she made her own assumptions about everyone’s expressions. "I… I guess I didn’t pass?"

Erik immediately lightened up and started to smile. "Haha, no, you did, actually!" He took a step closer and offered his hand to help her get up. "Passed with flying colours, in fact!"

"Oh…" Naeku blinked in surprise. "Oh!" she then exclaimed excitedly after his words sank in. Ignoring his hand, she bolted to her feet joyfully and threw her arms around her soon-to-be husband. "Hehehe, I was never worried," she chuckled happily, despite the relief in her voice.

Smiling, Erik wrapped his arms around her as well. "Hehe, neither was I, NaeNae. There was never any mistaking the way you look at me!" Mischievously, he leaned forward and whispered in her ear. "Nor the way you sound when you cum on my fingers…"

Naeku’s eyes narrowed, and a blush spread on her furry cheeks. She tightened her grip as if to punish him. "Pervert…!" she muttered with a small pout on her lips. "Your noises were no better than mine! And neither was your face!"

Unfortunately, her words did not have the desired effect when Erk simply chuckled. "Oh? Well, fortunately, I’ll be able to check for myself after you officially join my family."

"Ugh," Naeku groaned and rolled her eyes. She’d long since realized that shame was not in Erik’s vocabulary. "Whatever…" she said, shaking her head in exasperation at the knowledge she couldn’t get him with this.

Even so, she continued gripping Erik’s body, unwilling to let go for now. She sighed and felt her body relax. Frankly, she wasn’t sure why she felt so much relief at holding him. Somehow, she had the feeling she’d lost him recently, even as the love she felt for him had deepened further somehow.

After a few moments, she disentangled herself from his embrace and smiled at him, looking straight into his amber eyes with love, and Erik stared back with the same. Her arms still hung around his neck, and he grasped her hips.

Erik didn’t mind holding her werepanther form, but he couldn’t deny he looked forward to the moment he could start holding her human form instead.

"I love you, Erik," she said sincerely. And I’m glad I get to marry you. Despite some of my family’s misgivings, I actually really like your rogueish behaviour, hehe." At the end, she chuckled mischievously.

Contentedly, Erik parted his lips to respond when Naeku suddenly interrupted him. "But Erik…?" she began gently, without changing her loving expression even as she suddenly lifted her leg.

Surprised, Erik wondered what she was up to and tilted his head a little. "Yes…?"

"This is for making me take a stupid test!" she scowled, finally changing her expression to one of anger when her transformed, humanoid paw came crashing down on Erik’s unprotected foot with all her might.

The sensation of pain shot through Erik’s spine. Even though she was only a second ranker, she was nearing the third rank, and in her shapeshifted form, rather than Erik’s human form. Basically, with all her might, she could make him feel the equivalent of a heavy metal bottle falling on an unsuspecting foot, which still hurt quite a bit.

His eyebrow started twitching, but he refused to change his expression. He knew what he’d asked her, and his other wives, to do was unfair. Plus, with the trial going a little awry just now, he was more than willing to take a little punishment.

Keeping her foot on his, Naeku released his neck to grab his collar and glare at him instead. "No more tests! Understood?! We’re getting married!"

Still twitching a little from pain, Erik smirked at her. "Yes, Ma’am…"

"Hmpf, good," Naeku nodded contentedly before turning around to frown and scan around the room thoughtfully. There was still something she didn’t quite understand. The others were looking at them with various expressions, ranging from amusement to surprise.

"Anyway…" she began, curiously. "If I passed the test, then why did you guys look so awkward just now…? Also," she turned back to Erik with a raised eyebrow. "Why don’t I remember any of it?"

Now standing on one foot as he painfully rubbed his other one, Erik sighed wryly, "Because something went wrong with the sigil, and we had to seal your memory of it..."

"You did what now…?" Naeku muttered in disbelief, not necessarily accusatory, but more confused. She still felt too much joy at passing the trial to feel particularly negative about anything.

Sighing again, Erik started to explain…

A few moments later, Naeku and the others were watching a replay of her trial, and Naeku’s eyes were wide in shock. "That—" she turned to Elora with disbelief. "That’s the trial you put me through?! I cannot even imagine how I must have felt! I mean, shit, I… I don’t even know what to think of it now!"

Sighing, Elora nodded. She was in a surprisingly apologetic mood right now. Truthfully, with the trial having passed, even if Naeku was still to officially marry him and receive the bond linking her to Erik, Elora already considered her family. Which means she owed her an explanation.

"My heartfire sigil is a modification on the generic one… and it clearly still has a few bugs to work out," she explained wryly before frowning seriously. "I’m sorry you had to go through that, Naeku. None of us can imagine what you must have felt at that moment, which is why I sealed your memory of it so as not to scar you permanently."

Naeku frowned in thought, and the room remained quiet for a moment. Everyone wondered what she was thinking. Surprisingly, Naeku suddenly glanced at Erik with a frown and then turned back to Elora. "I understand why you did that, and it was a good idea."

Turning back to the screen, she continued, "Going from that back to this would have been an extreme shock, and I likely wouldn’t have reacted very well."

Then she turned back to Elora with determination. "But now that I know, I’m prepared, and I’d like you to undo the seal…"
