A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm-Chapter 1290: Encountering Devils in the Underworld
Chapter 1290: Encountering Devils in the Underworld
"Seeing as you've already considered everything, I'll go there with you, and I'll decide how to proceed depending on the situation there," Han Li said.
"Thank you, Fellow Daoist Han. I'm sure the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate is an extraordinary treasure that I'm sure will be very helpful to you as well," Gui Wu replied in an ecstatic manner.
"Hold on a second, Master, there's something else I need to ask," Weeping Soul interjected, and Han Li gestured for her to go ahead.
"Ask me anything, Fellow Daoist Weeping Soul," Gui Wu prompted with a smile.
"When you say the Six Paths Gale emerges every once in a while, what length of time are you referring to? We can't stay in the underworld for too long," Weeping Soul said.
"The Six Paths Gale arises very frequently, roughly once every one thousand years. According to my calculations, the next one is set to arise within the next century," Gui Wu replied.
"If these Six Paths Gales are so formidable, won't they damage the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate?" Weeping Soul asked.
"The Six Paths Reincarnation Plate is a naturally occurring treasure in the underworld, a manifestation of the Great Dao here, so it's incredibly resilient. On top of that, the Six Paths Reincarnation Plate and the Six Paths Gale share the same origins, so one won't damage the other," Gui Wu explained.
"Will we be passing through the territories of many powerful ghostly tribes on the way to the Yellow Springs?"
This time, the question was raised by Jin Tong.
"We'll inevitably have to pass through some ghostly settlements, but given your powers, you'll definitely be able to pass through just fine. On top of that, I'm very familiar with the route that must be taken to get there, and I'll be sure to provide the three of you with instructions to avoid as much trouble as possible," Gui Wu replied.
"It seems like you have everything very well thought out, Fellow Daoist Gui Wu," Han Li remarked.
"You're far too kind, Fellow Daoist Han. Without your help, all of my planning will hardly amount to anything," Gui Wu replied with a smile.
With that, the three of them set off in the northwestern direction in accordance with Gui Wu's instructions.
"Do you really believe in what he says, Master? What if he's deceiving us like that Xue Li did?" Weeping Soul asked through voice transmission.
"Were you able to tell whether he was lying or not earlier?" Han Li asked.
"I wasn't. Even though all that remains of him is a soul fragment, his lofty cultivation base made it impossible for me to detect anything," Weeping Soul replied in a slightly dejected manner.
"It's fine. Right now, Gui Wu is nothing more than a soul fragment, so if he tries to step out of line, then I'll strike him down right away. On top of that, this Six Paths Reincarnation Plate sounds like an extremely powerful treasure, so it's worth the risk," Han Li said, and Weeping Soul nodded in response.
Half a month flew by in the blink of an eye, and the deeper they ventured into the Yama Region, the more ghostly tribes they encountered.
These tribes either formed settlements or resided in cities, presenting a stark contrast to the chaos of the Black River Region.
Fortunately, with Gui Wu serving as their guide, they were able to traverse through the Yama Region without encountering much danger, and at the moment, the three of them were flying through the air, using the dark clouds as cover.
While flying along, Han Li was simultaneously reading through a thick book that he had stolen from a city that they had passed by, and the information in the book matched everything that Gui Wu had told them thus far.
"Master, there seems to be a battle taking place up ahead," Weeping Soul suddenly said, and Han Li immediately stopped in his tracks as he stowed his book away.
Weeping Soul and Jin Tong also drew to a halt on either side of him.
"Oh? I didn't think there would be more outsiders here in the underworld. And this time, they're from the Devil Realm. How intriguing," Gui Wu remarked as he emerged from his Soul Locking Box.
Han Li took a glance at him, then turned his gaze to Weeping Soul for confirmation.
Weeping Soul took a surprised look at Gui Wu, then confirmed, "That's right, one of the two parties up ahead does indeed consist of cultivators from the Devil Realm."
"How are you able to detect something so far away even in your current state?" Han Li asked as he turned to Gui Wu.
"In the underworld, one can easily detect things over this distance as long as one is skilled in the manipulation of their spiritual sense fluctuations. You're a human, so it's only to be expected that you're not that proficient in manipulating your spiritual sense, but it's very surprising that Fellow Daoist Weeping Soul was only able to detect the battle from such close proximity.
“Have you forgotten even the fundamental abilities of our underworld ghostly tribes?" Gui Wu asked in a bewildered manner.
"I already told you that I don't remember anything about the underworld," Weeping Soul harrumphed coldly.
Gui Wu spoke no further on the subject as he averted his gaze.
"How far is your current sensory range, Fellow Daoist Gui Wu?" Han Li asked.
"Right now, I am but a soul fragment, so my sensory range has been reduced to only around sixty thousand kilometers," Gui Wu replied.
Han Li was stunned to hear that even in Gui Wu's current state, his sensory range was still fifty to sixty times that of Weeping Soul.
"That's far further than any of us. Can we count on you to serve as our scout from now on, Fellow Daoist Gui Wu?" Han Li asked.
"Of course," Gui Wu replied with a smile.
"Let's get a little closer to see what's happening up ahead," Han Li said with a wave of his hand, and the group continued onward for a short while before concealing themselves near a valley.
Weeping Soul chanted an incantation to unleash the concealment technique that she had used on herself and Han Li earlier.
It was just a pity that this technique was only effective for a limited time. Otherwise, it would've spared them a lot of trouble on this journey.
"This is the Infernal King Aura Concealment Technique! You really are the reincarnation of the Infernal King! She was the only one capable of using this ability!" Gui Wu exclaimed in an ecstatic manner.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm Weeping Soul, not the Infernal King that you speak of," Weeping Soul harrumphed coldly.

Meanwhile, Han Li was peering into the valley to discover that it was roughly ten to fifteen kilometers in size, and there were countless black shadows gathered within it to form an enormous encirclement.
These black shadows were all ghostly creatures with human bodies and goat heads, and they each stood at around forty to fifty feet tall with dense, black fur covering the entirety of their bodies.
These ghostly beings wielded giant, black scimitars that were giving off dense, black mist, and with each slash of the scimitar, a saber projection of black mist would be unleashed toward the center of the encirclement.
These ghostly beings were clearly very proficient at working together, and the black saber projections that they unleashed came together to form a huge saber array that encompassed the entire valley like a massive dome.
"This is the Shang Goat Ghost Tribe, a tribe that's not particularly powerful in the context of the three regions," Gui Wu said.
Han Li cast his gaze toward the center of the array to discover a pair of black-robed figures, one tall and one short, and both of them had their faces concealed.
Furthermore, their black robes were imbued with some type of power that kept out all prying spiritual sense, making it impossible to glean the appearance of the two figures.
Four black banners with purple clouds embroidered upon them were circling around the pair of black-robed figures, forming a purple, hemispherical, protect barrier to ward off the surrounding saber array.
The protective barrier was extremely resilient, displaying no signs of weakness in the face of the formidable saber array.
"Those are indeed two devilish beings, and their cultivation bases are quite advanced. I wonder what they're doing here," Han Li mused.
Extremely pure devilish qi was emanating from their bodies, and the aura of the taller one indicated that they were already at the Great Encompassment Stage.
Even though the appearance of the shorter figure was completely concealed, the delicate curves of their body suggested it was a woman, and her cultivation base was slightly inferior to that of her companion, but it was also at the pinnacle of the High Zenith Stage.
Despite their formidable powers, they were surrounded by far too many Shang Goat beings, and they were trapped within the saber array, unable to break free.
"Those two look like they're in trouble, Master. Should we save them?" Weeping Soul asked.
As opposed to answering her question, Han Li turned to Gui Wu as he asked, "Fellow Daoist Gui Wu, are there any formidable ghostly beings nearby? Will we attract any trouble if we attack these Shang Goat beings?"
"Those Shang Goat Ghost Tribe isn't all that powerful, but they serve the Horse King Ghost Tribe, one of the four most powerful tribes of the Yama Region. If you want to save them, then you can, but you have to do so quickly. As long as you can ensure that, then you should be able to stay out of trouble," Gui Wu replied.
Han Li weighed up his options for a moment, then instructed, "Jin Tong, Weeping Soul, break the saber array and save those two."
Weeping Soul and Jin Tong gave an affirmative response, and the latter reached out to make a grabbing motion with her right hand, conjuring up a mountainous, black claw that came swooping down upon the saber array in the valley.
At the same time, Jin Tong transformed into a Gold Devouring Immortal the size of a house before sweeping her front legs through the air, releasing a flurry of sword qi that instantly formed a sword mountain before crashing into the saber array alongside the giant, black claw.
The Shang Goat beings had completely failed to detect the presence of Han Li's trio due to Weeping Soul's concealment technique, so they were caught completely off guard.
Two earth-shattering booms rang out in rapid succession as the black claw and the sword mountain came crashing down upon the saber array, instantly destroying most of it, but the array was still just barely able to hold itself intact.
Black and golden waves of light swept through the surrounding air, easily pulverizing the mountains that surrounded the valley.
Gusts of ferocious wind erupted into the heavens before sweeping outward in all directions, razing everything within a radius of several hundred kilometers to the ground.
