A Night of Desire-Chapter 94: As Long as I’m Willing and You’re Happy, That’s Enough
"Why?"
Although Seth Quinn asked why, his tone and expression showed no great surprise. It seemed he had already guessed she would make such a request.
"Because I’m not mentally prepared yet. Besides, I don’t want people to get the wrong idea and think I only got this role because of you."
Clara Grant had only found out last night that the role of Tina had already been cast. Now that it had suddenly been given to her, anyone would be suspicious, right?
If her identity as his wife were revealed now, wouldn’t that just confirm she had used her status to get ahead?
Even if Director Keane came out to clarify things, probably very few people would believe him.
Even if they didn’t dare say anything openly because of her status, they would still gossip behind her back!
She didn’t want the very first role she played to be questioned by everyone.
"And isn’t that the case?" Seth Quinn retorted nonchalantly. Seeing her confused expression, he turned back and added, "You did get this role because of me."
Clara Grant was at a loss for words. Although she didn’t agree, she couldn’t seem to find a way to refute it.
She really had, in a way, gotten it because of him!
Although Director Keane had taken a liking to her and she was confident she could handle the role, she wouldn’t have gotten it without Seth Quinn’s approval.
Even though Seth Quinn had used despicable methods, that was just how society worked. Having talent didn’t guarantee you’d get the opportunities you deserved.
Sometimes, power and connections trumped talent and dreams in an instant!
"Besides," Seth Quinn continued, "even if we announced our relationship, what is there for people to misunderstand?
After all, with my status, if I were really going to abuse my power for personal gain, I would at least get my wife a leading role, wouldn’t I? Why would I just get you a minor supporting part?"
Clara Grant had to admit he was right about everything.
She also admitted that the fear of being misunderstood was only a small part of it. It was also an excuse to get Seth Quinn to agree not to publicize their marriage.
She could find many excuses. She could say she was afraid of being misunderstood, or that she was worried her mother would be concerned if she found out about the whirlwind marriage. She could even say she hadn’t graduated yet and was worried about the negative impact...
But the main reason, which only Clara Grant herself knew, was that she didn’t want Miles Quinn to find out so soon that she was married—and that, by status, she had become his sister-in-law!
Clara Grant opened her mouth, about to say something more, when Seth Quinn’s voice rang out again.
"So, you don’t really need to worry so much. Let’s take a step back. So what if everyone knows I abused my power to get you a role? Who would dare say anything?
You are my wife. I’m willing to use everything I have to make things convenient for you. What’s wrong with that?
A husband doting on his wife, spoiling his wife, making his wife happy—isn’t that just the way things should be?
Besides, no one has the right to gossip about Seth Quinn’s wife. As long as I’m willing and you’re happy, that’s all that matters!"
When Seth Quinn said this, his expression and tone were faint, even sounding a bit careless, but Clara Grant was still stunned.
She had always known this man was domineering, but she never imagined he would say something so incredibly overbearing yet so full of affection.
Clara Grant’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. Inadvertently, a trace of sweetness she herself hadn’t even noticed bloomed in the softest part of her being.
Before she could recover from her shock and this unconscious sweetness, she heard Seth Quinn speak again.
"However, since you’re not mentally prepared, I’ll respect your decision and we won’t announce our marriage for the time being.
But, I’m not a very patient person. The most I can wait is until filming for *A Lifetime of Splendor* wraps up. So, during these next few months of shooting, you’d better get used to your new identity as Mrs. Quinn quickly."
Although it wasn’t a long time, only two or three months, it was still much better than being forced to face the fact that she was now a married woman.
’And these two or three months, where I can be with Miles Quinn day in and day out... I’ll just let myself have one last dream.’
’I’ll use this dream as a final memory between him and me, bringing my three years of bitter, unrequited love to a close!’
"Thank you!" Perhaps because Seth Quinn wasn’t making things difficult for her, Clara Grant thanked him with rare calmness.
Seth Quinn glanced at her and curled his lip into a slight smile, but said nothing.
"Oh, right. The opening ceremony is tomorrow, and then I have to join the production. About Cherie, I..."
Clara Grant was cut off by Seth Quinn before she could finish. "You just focus on your acting. As for Cherie, I’ll have someone take good care of her. You don’t need to worry about anything."
...
Back at school, she was supposedly in the classroom, but in truth, Clara Grant was completely out of it for the entire period.
Somehow, Seth Quinn’s words kept rolling around in her mind.
"A husband doting on his wife, spoiling his wife, making his wife happy—that’s just the way things should be!"
"No one has the right to gossip about Seth Quinn’s wife!"
"As long as I’m willing and you’re happy, that’s all that matters!"
As she replayed his words, Clara Grant’s face gradually turned red again. ’That man is certainly getting comfortable with his new role as a husband!’
Completely lost in her own thoughts, Clara Grant naturally failed to notice her classmates pointing at her and whispering among themselves.
Since Clara Grant hadn’t come to class yesterday, Chloe Grant was a little disappointed she had missed the embarrassing and pathetic sight of Clara being scorned by the entire school.
Plus, she had been hit by Clara Grant at the hospital and had been scolded and utterly humiliated by Seth Quinn. So today, she had specifically made a point not to skip class, coming to school just to see Clara make a fool of herself.
Furthermore, she had already spoken with the department’s dean of students, telling him it would be best to use this opportunity to expel Clara Grant.
The dean’s husband was an employee at the Grant Group and a subordinate of Chloe’s father. To help her own husband’s career, the dean would naturally help her.
That way, Clara Grant would never be a threat to her again.
However, when she saw that Clara Grant remained perfectly calm and composed no matter how much the other students pointed and stared, and that the dean of students still hadn’t made a move, Chloe Grant started to get antsy.
When the first class ended and Clara Grant stood up to go to the restroom, Chloe Grant shot a look at a few of the girls in her clique.
The girls understood. One of them deliberately quickened her pace to catch up with Clara Grant, then pretended to accidentally bump into her.
Clara Grant was suddenly bumped. Before she could fully process what had happened, she heard a delicate cry of "Ouch!" She turned her head and saw her classmate, Juno Croft, sitting on the floor, clutching one shoulder and crying, "It hurts so much!"
’Wasn’t I the one who got bumped? How did the person who bumped into me end up falling? And from the looks of it, it was a bad fall?’
But she didn’t overthink it, simply assuming Juno Croft had accidentally bumped into her. After a few seconds of stunned silence, she was about to help her up. Before she could even bend down, however, a sharp, cutting voice came from behind her.
