A Night of Desire-Chapter 182: An Excited Slip of the Tongue
Seth Quinn and Jenna Quinn exchanged a look, both seeing the helplessness in each other’s eyes.
Jenna Quinn sighed and shook her head. ’Their mother is just so tactless,’ she thought.
What other reason could there be for Skylar Hayes and Cedric Grant’s divorce? It was because Cedric Grant had an affair, fathered an illegitimate daughter with Jean Jarvis, and then divorced Skylar so he could welcome his new family.
How was Skylar Hayes supposed to answer a question like that? Her husband hadn’t just cheated on her; he had an illegitimate daughter, Chloe Grant, who wasn’t much younger than their own daughter, Clara. It proved that Cedric Grant had betrayed her at the very start of their marriage.
This was a deep humiliation for any woman. How could she bring herself to say it out loud?
Beside them, Theodore Quinn’s expression suddenly turned grim. He coughed heavily twice. Sienna Hale looked over, confused, and only when she saw the look on her husband’s face did she realize she had misspoken.
She immediately became flustered and apologized sheepishly, "I’m so sorry, Skylar. I have a bad habit of speaking before I think. I really am sorry."
Skylar Hayes could see what kind of person she was and knew she meant no harm. She said it was alright, but her expression remained a little strained.
"Mrs. Hayes, I’m Cherie’s mother, Jenna. Cherie stayed at your home for so long before, I hope he wasn’t too much trouble for you."
To lighten the mood and ease Skylar Hayes’s awkwardness, Jenna Quinn spoke up to change the subject.
At the mention of Cherie, Skylar Hayes’s expression did indeed brighten. She smiled and said, "No trouble at all. Cherie is so well-behaved, clever, and sweet. I’m very fond of him. We’re all family here, Jenna, there’s no need to be so formal. Besides, having him around during that time really cheered me up."
As she spoke, she pulled Cherie, who was nestled against her, into a hug.
Just then, Skylar Hayes’s phone, which was on the table, suddenly rang. Everyone instinctively looked over. The caller ID showed a single word: Daughter.
In an instant, everyone’s expression turned serious. Sienna Hale even put a finger to her lips, making a "shushing" gesture.
Skylar Hayes glanced at everyone, picked up her phone, and answered the call.
"Mom, did you go to the hospital?"
Before she could speak, Clara Grant asked from the other end.
"Ah, yes, I’m at the hospital now," Skylar Hayes replied, her eyes lowered.
"Really?" Clara Grant, who had been lying on her bed, immediately sat up straight. "Then can you put Cherie on the phone?"
"Okay, hold on." As Skylar Hayes spoke, she handed the phone to Cherie. Before she did, responding to the expectant looks from everyone, she put the call on speakerphone.
Knowing the call was from Clara Grant, Cherie was thrilled. His big eyes shone like stars as he took the phone from Skylar Hayes and shouted into it, "Auntie!"
The moment he said it, everyone in the room was stunned. Even Seth Quinn’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, a hint of tension in his deep eyes.
After shouting, Cherie also realized that—oops—in his excitement, he had said the wrong thing.
"Auntie?" On the other end of the line, Clara Grant was taken aback for a moment, then she laughed. "Cherie, are you still half-asleep? I’m your big sister. Where did ’Auntie’ come from?"
Jenna Quinn was the first to react. She started making faces at Cherie, urging him to quickly come up with an explanation. "Uh, haha, Big Sister, did you forget? I told you before that I was going to introduce you to my uncle. If my uncle marries you in the future, won’t you be my auntie? I just got excited and said it a little too soon," Cherie said, his eyes darting around as he thought up an excuse.
