A Night of Desire-Chapter 134: Happy Wedding
After a moment, Clara Grant added, "Sarah, Seth and I haven’t announced our marriage yet. My mom still doesn’t know, so I need you to keep it a secret for me for the time being."
"Don’t worry, my lips are sealed." Sarah Shelby knew Clara hadn’t gotten over Miles Quinn, so it was only natural that she hadn’t fully accepted the fact that she was married to Seth Quinn yet.
’Besides, there had never even been a rumor about her dating, and now she was suddenly married? Her mom would probably have a heart attack!’
"Thank you, Sarah," Clara Grant said with heartfelt gratitude. She was the best friend anyone could ask for, one who would listen to her innermost thoughts, share her happiness, shoulder her burdens, and keep her secrets.
"Come on, there’s no need for ’thank you’ between us. I’ll let you go now. I’ve heard too many bombshells today. I need to hang up and take a minute to process everything.
"*A Lifetime of Splendor* is about to start filming, so you’d better start studying the script. I know you’re the wife of Aegis’s president now, so you won’t be short on resources or opportunities. But if you really want to make a name for yourself in show business, your acting and your work have to speak for themselves, right?"
Sarah was about to hang up, but she paused and added, "Still, I should congratulate you. Wishing you a happy marriage."
After hanging up, Clara Grant gave a bitter smile. ’A happy marriage? Newlyweds are supposed to be happy, aren’t they? But me... I just had a fight with my groom.’
After tidying up and putting away the first-aid kit, Clara Grant went into her room. She took out her script and tried to read, but while her eyes were on the page, her mind drifted back to the news Sarah had shared.
’If Miles Quinn wasn’t behind all that, then who was?’
’Could it be...’
Clara Grant’s heart trembled. ’Could it be... Seth?’
’The way this was handled does seem like his style, but... even though I’m his wife, in his eyes, isn’t my main purpose just to be a tool for his release?’
’Would he really go to such lengths for my sake? To the point of getting Director Conway fired and Vice Principal Chandler demoted?’
’Besides, he doesn’t even know about the post on the school forum or the fact that I was almost expelled.’
’Unless... Miles told him. After all, he’s Miles’s older brother; it’s possible Miles would have said something to him.’
’Or did Chloe Grant actually go to Seth?’
’But if Chloe Grant had gone to him, he would know she was the one who framed me. So why would he let her off the hook?’
Then Clara Grant suddenly recalled Seth Quinn’s strange behavior that afternoon. He had shown up out of the blue and made her treat him to dinner, taking her to the same restaurant she had visited with Miles Quinn. He even ordered the same food and performed the same gesture of wiping the corner of her mouth...
She had felt something was off at the time, and now she realized just how right she had been. Something was definitely not right.
’Seth must have known that I had dinner with Miles. He must have seen our every move.’
’Was he doing all those things to show me that he has me completely under his thumb? To warn me not to even think about doing anything disgraceful right under his nose?’
A surge of anger rose in Clara Grant. ’I may be his wife, but I still have my personal freedom, don’t I?’
But her anger was immediately followed by a pang of guilt. After all, she had married the older brother, but her heart still belonged to the younger one. It felt as if she had already betrayed Seth Quinn.
Torn between anger and guilt, Clara Grant felt her thoughts turn to mush. Her heart was a complete mess. Finally, she tossed her script aside, pulled the covers over her head, and burrowed into bed.
...
Seth Quinn didn’t drive home. Instead, he went to the hospital, soon arriving at Cherie’s room.
Skylar Hayes wasn’t in the hospital room. Cherie was lying on the bed alone, looking utterly bored.
When she saw Seth Quinn, she scrambled up, her eyes shining as she called out, "Uncle!"
