A Night of Desire-Chapter 114: She Really Wasn’t Used to Such a Thoughtful Seth Quinn
Clara finally stopped eating and looked up at him, puzzled. "What..."
Before the word was even out of her mouth, she saw Seth Quinn raise a hand toward her face. She instinctively flinched back, asking in alarm, "What are you doing?"
Seth Quinn stared at the clean corners of her mouth and said nonchalantly, his expression unchanged, "You have something on your mouth. I’ll wipe it off for you."
’If he didn’t make a move, she probably wouldn’t look up for the entire meal. How would he get his chance to wipe her mouth?’
"Oh, really?"
Clara ran her tongue over the corners of her mouth. ’I’ve had my head down this whole time,’ she wondered. ’How could he have seen anything on my mouth?’
But she didn’t dwell on it and reached for the napkin in his hand. "Thanks, but I can get it myself."
Clara, however, had no idea how sexy and alluring her unconscious lick of her lips had been, and it made Seth Quinn’s gaze darken instantly.
But when he heard what she said next, his expression soured. Without a word, he moved to wipe her mouth directly.
Clara flinched away again, and Seth seemed to grow annoyed. "Don’t move!"
His voice was a bit harsh, and Clara didn’t dare to move again, letting him dab at the corners of her mouth a few times.
His movements were gentle and his expression was serious, but Clara found the whole atmosphere incredibly strange.
She remembered how Seth had turned down the air conditioning for her in the car when she’d fallen asleep, even covering her with his jacket. And now, he was wiping her mouth.
’She really wasn’t used to this considerate side of Seth Quinn.’
While she was dazed, Seth Quinn pulled his hand back. Clara immediately lowered her head, ready to continue eating.
Seth Quinn’s expression grew even darker. He casually tossed the pristine napkin into the trash can before speaking with dissatisfaction.
"Mrs. Quinn, when a handsome man wipes your mouth for you, aren’t you supposed to look grateful, or perhaps a little star-struck? Shouldn’t you be gazing at him, all gentle and shy, for a little while longer?"
’In the photograph, her gaze on Miles was so gentle and shy it was practically dripping with affection. Why couldn’t she look at him like that?’
"SPUTTER... COUGH COUGH..."
Hearing his words, Clara spat out the pasta she had just put in her mouth and immediately started coughing.
’The impossibly cold and aloof Seth Quinn could actually tell a joke? And such a... narcissistic and lame one at that!’
’Especially that "Mrs. Quinn." The way he said it made her squirm.’
"What’s the matter, Mrs. Quinn? Are my words making you feel so ashamed you wish the ground would swallow you whole?" Seth Quinn raised an eyebrow as he watched her. "You know, people should repay kindness. Otherwise, there are consequences."
"What do you mean by that, Seth Quinn?" Clara finally stopped coughing and looked up, glaring at him angrily. "Are you saying I’m ungrateful?"
Seth Quinn didn’t respond, simply meeting her gaze with a slight arch of his brow.
’He had succeeded. She was looking up, looking right at him. Her glare wasn’t exactly friendly, let alone affectionate, shy, or brimming with tenderness.’
’But it was enough, wasn’t it? Just for her to look at him for a little while longer.’
’He could just imagine her look was as gentle and shy as the one she had for Miles.’
"I just told you I didn’t need your help, that I could do it myself! You’re the one who insisted on rushing to help me, and now you’re talking about repaying kindness. You’re such a young master, have you never helped anyone before? Demanding repayment for every little thing!"
Clara stared at him intently and continued, "And another thing. You just called me Mrs. Quinn, so you do remember that I’m your wife, huh? Is it not perfectly natural for a husband to wipe his wife’s mouth? Does that really require repayment?"
Perhaps the words had tumbled out so smoothly that Clara didn’t even realize how ambiguous her last few sentences were, or how much they sounded like a wife pouting at her husband.
