Chapter 95: Cotton for Clothing?

"Wanna explain why you’re being awfully quiet over there, Liz?" Serena asked, not bothering to look at the snake as she continued picking cotton and placing it in her basket. "You normally have a lot to say whenever someone’s chatting to me about different stuff."

Liz let out a hiss before it finally answered, "I currently have no information on the gods...."

"Why because my level is low?" Serena asked almost sarcastically.

Liz shook its head. "Not because of that. My databases have no information on the gods of this world."

Serena frowned at that. She would’ve understood if the information was restricted. She was used to that by now. But to hear that there was absolutely nothing. That didn’t seem possible.

"What about things like priests, divine power, temples and festivals?" Serena questioned, wanting to see how deep this went.

There was something definitely up if not even her system knew about the gods of this world. Was it someone purposely trying to hide something from her? If so, what exactly was it? And why?

"Priests are beastmen that go under special training and normally come from bloodlines which carry divine power - a blessing from the Beast God." Liz explained. "They typically live in temples which are always built in cities and help ordinary beastmen with problems. As for festivals, you get many different types depending on the region or clan. Is there anything specific you want to know about festivals in general or of a specific festival?"

Serena’s frown deepened. So, that part wasn’t restricted or didn’t exist. But it was also basic information she knew about this world already. And Liz spoke about the Beast God.

So, was it only the other gods that it didn’t have any information on? Or was the information on the Beast God limited too? Honestly, it would be strange either way.

"How much do you know about the Beast God?" Serena finally asked.

"Just that the Beast God is worshiped by many beastmen in this world and that divine power from him." Liz stated.

Serena sighed, "Alright thanks Liz."

"No problem." Liz responded with what looked to be a grin.

Serena shook her head at the sight before going back to work. As she continued picking more cotton, her mind couldn’t help but wonder. She wanted to understand why there was such a censorship.

Was there anything else being hidden from her and to what extent? It gnawed at her as she worked, making her determined to meet with Merinda as soon as possible.

That rabbit beastwoman was the only person she could get any information from and perhaps a possible clue into the gods and why all this was being hidden from her. But for now, she was stuck to her own theories.

It was almost sunset when Serena made it back to the village with a basket filled with cotton. She already had the last two baskets in her subspace filled with cotton for emergencies so just needed to get about three more for Theo.

A part of her wondered if she should get more considering Liz’s words about cotton being used to make clothes. However, she wasn’t sure how that ball of fluff became clothing and didn’t see anyone wear cotton clothing within the village.

Or elsewhere for that matter.

Almost everyone wore fur clothing or wool from the Sheep Clan. However, wool was expensive considering the Sheep Clan lived in the Eastern region and one had to go through the Horse Clan to get clothing from them.

Thus it was mostly cities or big tribes that bought wool and clothing made from it was normally used on by wealthy and high ranking beastwomen.

Serena knew there was also silk and the Snake Clan used their shredded skin, but the former was mainly only worn by the richest city females as a status of wealth and the latter was only worn by snake beastmen’s mates.

She’d likely have to turn to the system for help with how to make clothing from cotton and she wasn’t sure if she had the time for that right now. Or if she even wanted to spend coins getting that knowledge.

Then again, if they grew cotton on a larger scale and made clothing from it perhaps food wasn’t the only thing they could trade with the Horse Clan. They could make a few extra crystals on the side and put it towards the city’s development.

Plus it using cotton for clothing instead would reduce the need to trade for furs. Because right now, the village was exchanging their normal salt amount for furs. Which wasn’t good in the long run.

Salt was also a very important thing they needed. Especially for cubs and beastwomen.

Cotton could be used for daily wear and then they could keep furs for the cold season which would greatly reduce the need to trade. That would definitely work out better for them.

But she’d need to put that idea on the back burner for now and perhaps try it out during the cold season when she had more time on her hand. Not that researching for the city’s development gave her much time.

Granted it wasn’t like she could do that research in front of others. So, perhaps developing a new way to get clothes wasn’t such a bad way to spend her idle time during the cold season.

Perhaps she could even get a few others on board with her plan.

Happy with the plan in mind, Serena went to find Kiro before the siblings made their way back to the hut. Serena quickly put down her basket inside the hut before she went to check on the wild birds, finding them all resting the coop thankfully.

She refilled the water bowl, making a mental note to refill the food bowl tomorrow since it was only halfway empty. Once she was done, Serena headed over to Theo, who was busy smoking some meat, and went to help out.
