Chapter 71: Finalizing Plans

When she finally got back to the hut after getting Kiro at the village center, she found Theo already back. He was sitting in front of the hut, preparing lunch. From the looks of it, they were having roasted meat skewers.

He glanced over at her and took a sniff, frowning as he asked, "Why do you smell like a bird?"

"Probably because I accidentally found a nest of them." Serena replied, setting her basket down. She then carefully brought out the eggs she found. "Look I got a nest of eggs."

"I see..." Theo mused, glancing at the six small eggs. "I’m surprised they nested so close to the village."

Serena was about to agree, wanting to hide the fact that she actually found it while hunting some wild birds. However, Kiro spoke up first.

"Can we have eggs?" Kiro asked excitedly, almost drooling at the sight. "We haven’t had them for so long!"

"Um.... Theo’s already making lunch, Kiro." Serena started, glancing at Theo who was back to quietly tending to the skewers. "Perhaps we can have them tonight."

Theo gazed over at them and nodded his head in agreement. "I can make them tonight and we can save the extra skewers for tomorrow morning."

Kiro pouted at her words, but huffed out, "Okay... "

Serena shook her head at the young cub before she murmured, "I’ll leave them inside the hut and put everything else in storage quickly. Kiro, stay here."

Kiro responded by taking a seat next to Theo and with that Serena headed inside. She left the nest of eggs inside the hut, careful not to place them where they could get damaged.

She then headed over to the underground door, pulled it open and quickly headed down to store the purple roots she had collected. It wasn’t much, just half a basket, since she went hunting instead, but it was better than nothing.

The underground shelves were beginning to get full from all the food Serena had been collecting. They’d even begun storing some food in baskets, though Serena needed to make more. They were beginning to run out.

She also needed much more purple roots and some other kind of plant to finally complete the system’s plant requirement for her cold season preparation mission. As well as about ten furs and more meat.

Once she was done storing away all the new purple roots and organizing the storage space a bit more, Serena headed back up to the surface. She closed the underground door, covering it with a fur and set her basket down before heading out.

She went to sit down with Theo and Kiro and after a few minutes of waiting, lunch was finally ready.

Once lunch was done, Theo got the leftover meat smoking and then the two focused on finishing up with the wood. They wanted to start building the coop within the next two days, but had to wait until the resin was properly dried.

Serena glanced over at the stack of dry wood planks, happy that they could finally begin using the treated wood. Theo was finishing up treating the last bit of wood and Serena went to check the ones they put resin on already to see if they were dry.

Not much was dry yet, but it was progress. Once she was done going over all the wood, Serena headed over to Theo. He was getting up from the ground, the small wooden basin of resin in his hands.

"I believe that’s all the wood." Theo mused as he looked over all the wood planks.

"Think so too." Serena replied, gazing at the leftover resin. "Do you want me to take that to Elder Samuel and see if anyone has use for it? I need to get Kiro on my way."

Kiro had gone off to play, promising to stay in the village center. Serena let him go and now had a great excuse to go to the village center.

She planned to meet up with Elder Samuel and finish up discussing their plans for the village. Then they could go to the Council and get their approval.

"Um... sure." Theo replied, handing her the resin basin. "Elder Samuel might actually use it for the wood they’re using for the wall."

Serena took the wooden basin, careful not to touch the sticky substance and headed off to the village center. She found Kiro playing there and told him they’d be heading back once she was done speaking with Elder Samuel.

The cub nodded in understanding before running back to his friends. Serena then headed to the same hut as yesterday and found Elder Samuel waiting there for her. He smiled at the sight of her, glancing at what she was holding.

"What do you have there?" Elder Samuel asked when she finally got to his side.

"Some extra resin." Serena answered. "Thought you might know of someone who needs some."

"Ah." Elder Samuel nodded in understanding, taking the small wooden basin from her. "I’ll make sure it doesn’t go to waste.... Although we could probably use it on the walls."

Just as Theo said... Serena mused to herself before she said, "Shall we head inside?"

Elder Samuel nodded his head and the two entered the hut. Once they were seated, Serena went straight into her plan to have the trade route go between the Mer City and Forest City.

She explained the need to chart out the route beforehand as well as do some experimentation on what plants to grow on a large scale. That way they could supply food to the merchants and gain resources from the exchange.

Elder Samuel added own input on the plant’s bit, however, it was clear they needed to do some research on it. He suggested they console with Healer Kai and a few others.

Once she was done briefing him on her idea, Serena headed back out to find Kiro, a little nervous about tomorrow’s plan to meet with the Council.
