Chapter 54: You’re Mine!

Elena let out stiffled moans under Gabriel’s embrace. She was not the type to cry in front of someone else, but Gabriel... Oh Gabriel! What had he done to her? She felt like all the weight pressed on her was lifted away by the simple hug.

He stroked her hair gently as if telling her to let it all out. He smelled of sweat and blood but she cared less. Her tears dampened the thin shirt he wore. The feeling of having him close, lost in his embrace... Strangely, she wanted it to last forever!

"We’ll show them," Gabriel whispered, his voice low but cold. "We’ll show each one of them what it is like to suffer. The pain of someone you love being taken away from you!" And at that moment, he imagined Elena snatched away from him, a thought too painful to bear.

"Hush now," he coerced, gently stroking her hair. "Don’t cry. You’re perfect."

The words struck Elena like a thunderbolt out of the midday blue sky. Perfect! Her tears seemed to have freezed on her cheeks when the memories of Darion’s incident flooded her mind. She was not perfect!

Her fists rested on his chest before she looked up to meet with his eyes. The gold in them, she noticed, was coming back gradually. But the guilt invaded her in a fresh wave and she couldn’t keep with his gaze. Instead she stared at his chest.

Some news were better shared in the dark, she thought! Her hands fiddled with his cloth, her will battling with her conscience. How would he take it?

"Gabriel?" She called nervously. Her heart raced, a warning she was venturing into a suicide mission! "I _ I fear I might have done something that you wouldn’t like when you were away." The knot tightened in her stomach, swallowing hard when she lifted her eyes to meet his face.

"What has this bunny done this time?" Gabriel asked playfully stroking her nose. She forced a smile, one that disappeared as quick as it had appeared. If he knew what she’d done, he wouldn’t be petting her even for a second longer!

She let a little silence grow between them, battling with her inner emotions. Hell, she had to say it for her inner peace. She was tired of keeping secrets. And with Darion out there into the unknown, it would only be a matter of time before it came out. She had to tell him, lest he hear it from a stranger.

She took a deep breath as if that would help to calm her nervous self. "Darion and I kissed!" She blurted out, casting her eyes everywhere else but on Gabriel.

Time seemed to have stood still for both Elena and Gabriel. The darkness engulfed them, an eerie silence befalling the once vibrant chamber. One could hear the distant howling of wolves and a vampire or two singing their heart out in the empty alleys.

Elena’s hands fell to her side, her heart hammering against her ribcage. For a moment, she regretted her decision. Gabriel’s silence was not making it any easier for her! Slowly, she lifted her eyes to meet with Gabriel’s stoic ones. And for some reason unbeknownst to her, they had suddenly attained their full glow that he looked like a magical orb.

"I’m sorry," she whispered, tears already welling up her eyes. It pained her to see Gabriel react like this. But deep down, she knew he was hurting! "It doesn’t have to be this way."

Gabriel moved, leaving Elena in a state of despair. With the little amount of light the moon illuminated over the room, he found his eyes in the full length mirror. A sharp pain coursed through his heart, and it hurt a lot! He chewed his lip so hard it bled!

"Why?" He asked, his claws already piercing through his skin.

Elena shrinked in the bed and clawed out to approach Gabriel. His hands dangled in the air. She wanted to reach out for them but then the blood started forming around him. He turned to face her, his eyes now pained.

"Why, El?" Came his question again, now drawn to a hoarse whisper.

"It was all my fault," Elena blurted, her voice husky. "I kissed him. He never reciprocated."

Gabriel clenched his fists tighter, killing intent invading his senses afresh. But who would he kill? Darion? The bastard was nowhere to be found. Elena? How could he bring himself to even harm a single strand of her hair!? In the end, he ended up hurting himself!

"You’re hurting yourself!" Elena pointed. The rate at which he was loosing blood was high. And it was all her fault!

"Am I?" He asked, his eyes pained. She was hurting him, every fucking piece of him! His eyes settled on her parted lips, an image of Darion claiming them crossing his mind. The pain... It was too much. He’d rather take a sword to the heart than experience this kind of pain! It was strange... and more painful!

"I’m sorry Gab..." Elena pleaded, tears now rolling down her eyes.

Gabriel’s resentment switched to concern in an instant. She was crying, and he didn’t like seeing her that way. This was not the kind of night he was looking forward to. He had ruined it!

He crossed the distance between them and lifted her chin. "You’re mine! Do you hear that? No one else should touch you, ever!" His thumb caressed her cheeks and wiped the tears off her face.

"Don’t cry, you’re perfect" he repeated, and only then did Elena look in his eyes. There was something in them she couldn’t put her finger on. His emotions were unreadable. It was like a crazy obsession!

He leaned closer and locked his lips with hers. His kiss was not soft but a possessive. It was as if he was sealing a pact with her, one that neither of them could break whatsoever. He knocked the air out of her lungs, taking steady steps back until they landed on the large bed.
