A Bastard's Allure-Chapter 134: For You, I Will
Gabriel and Elena stared at the ceiling trying to catch their breath. He’d just given her the wildest love making she’d ever experienced since they got married.
She turned and rested her head on his chest. His heart was still calm despite his rapid chest movements. Compared to her stallion one, his was as still as the deepest waters.
"I want this to last forever," she stated, her fingers circling around his chest.
Gabriel’s gaze remained fixated on the ceiling. When he came here, to her room, he had one mission in mind. Wonderful memories was not an end result of this suicide mission, maybe bitter sweet memories.
"I wish that were true," he said without looking at her.
Elena craned her neck to look at him. His face was unreadable, like an enigma she could could not decipher all of a sudden. Why was he like this? One moment he was this lovable husband and the next, he was as cold and distant as winter.
"Once we defeat the vampires, we’ll take control of the capital and improve our defenses. No vampire will ever dare attack us in the future."
And sitting up, "You won’t need to take the Eldorian throne anymore. If it’s power you want, I’ll make you my consort by name but you’d be the one ruling in my stead."
Gabriel smiled nervously. It was a tempting offer but the catastrophe would be great.
"Your people would have a different opinion," he replied.
Elena strapped herself between him, holding his face in her hands that he’d look into her eyes.
"Who cares about what they think or say. We’re the only ones that matter," she voiced, her voice barely a whisper.
She bent closer and kissed him softly, but he didn’t reciprocate. Stunned by his actions, Elena drew back to watch him.
"What is it?" She asked, trying to decipher the enigma that was her husband.
He took her hands into his, letting a fleeting couple of seconds pass by as they stared at each other. There was something about her eyes that brought him back to the day he first saw her in the throne hall.
She was a scared little princess forced into a union she never asked for, nor did she have any clue about who or what he was. And to think that the same timid woman was his crazy little wife only brought a smile to his face; a sad smile.
"When I came here, I intended to tell you about the messenger’s report, but you distracted me..."
"Is that a compliment?" Elena interrupted, biting her lower lip seductively.
"My brother has accepted to give your people safe passage to the ships," he stated.
"Well, that’s good news, isn’t it?" She asked.
"He gave a condition," Gabriel added, raising his eyes to meet hers.
"What condition?" Elena was already impatient.
"For him to let your people live without further massacre, I have to turn myself in."
"That’s not going to happen," Elena said. "We’ll fight till the last man if it has to come to that."
"It need not to come to that," Gabriel interjected. And when Elena raised her brows in curiosity, he added, "I’m turning myself in!"
Elena blinked twice in a row as if that would make the words uttered have a different meaning. Still, a part of her hoped she had not heard it right.
"You’ll do no such thing," she blurted after a while of silence. Wrapping the sheets around her body, she stood from the bed and headed for the door, bolting it.
Gabriel let out a sigh. He had thought this through and he knew it wasn’t going to be easy, especially for her. But this had to be done, for the sake of humanity.
"You don’t understand the stakes, do you? We’re talking about the eradication of the entire human species, the last of your kind. You want them to die fighting. Fighting for what? Me? I’m just a nameless bastard who was lucky to get married to the most beautiful woman in the world!"
Elena stood there as the words sunk in, and the weight they carried started dawning on her. What kind of ruler was she if she led the last of her kind to extinction. But he was not your regular bastard. He was Gabriel Sinclair, the son of Thoron and the true heir to the Eldorian throne. He was her husband.
"You know I won’t let you," she said, tears brimming her vision.
Gabriel slipped into his pants and shirt before taking his sword from the bedside.
"You wanted to fight. I didn’t stop you despite the risk. Let me do this. Don’t try to stop me," he said, his voice dry and laced with no emotion.
"This is different. If you go, there’s no coming back," she whispered as if the words made it more real than it was already fated to be.
"I’ll come back. For you I will," he promised.
Elena felt him hold her hand. Her eyes met but she couldn’t help but let the tears that had been threatening to spill flow.
"Is there no other way?"
Gabriel smiled wryly. "I wish there was, cute bunny." He caressed her cheeks briefly before walking past her.
Elena saw the sun hide behind a dark cloud through the open window as if scared to witness the events that had unfolded and those yet to come. She turned around to see him halt at the door, his long sword strapped on his back.
Looking over his shoulder, Gabriel added, "Tell Darion, I am grateful for his service. He’s now free to work for any Lord he pleases."
And with that, he left.
It was the last time Elena saw him. She felt weak in her knees before she knelt on the floor, her hands caressing her stomach. She didn’t have the chance to tell him the news. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
She was with child, Gabriel’s child. She knew he’d be angry at her if she broke the news yet she risked the baby’s life by going to war. She was waiting for the perfect time to tell him but now that seemed impossible.
She was sure Brandon would rest at nothing to see Gabriel’s head severed from his body. Death was certain!
