70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 103: Huo’s Many Sentiments
By the time Old Xu and the others returned, it was already evening, and all the food in the house had been locked up. Even if Xu Mumu wanted to cook, she couldn’t.
"Where’s your brother? Where has he run off to slack this time?" Li Caixia asked, looking around without finding her son.
"Brother went to learn some skills from Uncle Aiguo. Mom, I got him a job interview opportunity." Xu Mumu smiled and shared the news about the transportation team job.
"Daughter, is this true?" Li Caixia’s eyes lit up; the transportation team was a great place.
"Of course it’s true, but there will surely be many people going for the interview, and chances of not being selected are high." Xu Mumu gave them a heads-up; the transportation team was affiliated with the district, quite different from those factories. Joining it was like having a guaranteed job.
"Your brother is so capable; he’ll surely make it." Li Caixia was mysteriously confident, always believing her daughter and son to be the best.
"Jobs in the district are definitely hard to get. Mrs. Xu, you mustn’t gossip about it." Old Xu took a puff from his leaf cigarette, feeling somewhat melancholy; he naturally wished his grandson could land the job. Xu Minghui was the eldest grandson, but with so many people vying for one job, the family couldn’t provide any help for him.
"Dad, I understand." Li Caixia nodded, planning to boast once her son secured the job.
These days, Li Caixia was having the time of her life. The story of Xu Mumu earning money from her submissions had spread throughout the entire brigade.
Even over at the educated youth spot, things were becoming restless. Almost all the educated youths there had graduated from high school. Seeing Xu Mumu earning from publications made them think they could do it too, sparking some action.
These developments were unknown to Xu Mumu, but Yin Yang was aware and observed them. He wasn’t lacking money; he lacked things, and acquiring good items was genuinely difficult.
"Why aren’t you tempted?" Huo Qingze glanced at Yin Yang, who was leaning against the bed reading.
"I don’t have the talent for it; if Huo wants to, he can try." Yin Yang smirked.
"I’m not interested." Huo Qingze shook his head, giving Yin Yang a deep look. Since Yin Yang became an educated youth, the things he produced couldn’t be bought from the area, some even being foreign goods.
All this Huo Qingze noted, recognizing that many at the educated youth spot didn’t know those items, and Yin Yang was pretty good at keeping them hidden.
"That’s settled then, I heard you’ve gotten quite close with the girl from the Old Xu family." Yin Yang curiously glanced at Huo Qingze, pondering why Huo Qingze was willing to help Xu Xue.
He had seen Xu Xue, and she had brought desserts for Huo Qingze several times. They tasted good, but considering Huo Qingze’s presumably complicated family background, a few desserts shouldn’t have been enough to sway him.
"Haven’t you also gotten close to another girl from the Old Xu family? You even went out of your way to find study materials for her." Huo Qingze rolled his eyes.
"That little girl is quite interesting, and considering she has helped me twice, helping her back is only fair." Yin Yang smirked, recalling Xu Mumu’s sturdy nature; she managed to handle many people all on her own, indeed impressive.
"Are you smitten by her?" Huo Qingze slightly raised an eyebrow; he had always known Yin Yang seemed friendly with those women, but it was mere utility; only Xu Mumu seemed somewhat special.
"Huh, what’re you thinking, given my family’s situation, I can’t ruin that girl’s life." Yin Yang chuckled, his eyes flashing with coldness.
"Haha, the Old Xu family, truly an interesting bunch." Huo Qingze laughed, seemingly ignoring the coldness in Yin Yang’s eyes.
"Huo seems quite contemplative." Yin Yang looked at Huo Qingze.
"Indeed, many changes have been noted by folks in the brigade, somewhat peculiar." Huo Qingze poured a cup of tea for Yin Yang.
"What’s there to be peculiar about? It’s their business." Yin Yang nonchalantly said. What he cared about was who could benefit him, Xu Mumu being the best choice presently.
"Yin, what about the matter I asked you about?" Huo Qingze gazed at Yin Yang.
"You guys go ahead; I won’t go, as I don’t wish to get entangled with those female educated youths." Yin Yang replied indifferently.
"Alright then." Huo Qingze nodded without insisting; he knew Yin Yang’s heart was never really here.
After Huo Qingze left his room, Yin Yang curbed his significant smile, retrieved a piece of white paper from his box, and began writing.
If Xu Mumu were here, she’d find that Yin Yang was writing in French.
The whole family was elated about Xu Minghui’s job matter, and even the next day at work, Li Caixia was secretly rejoicing. Had it not been for Madam Chen watching her, she’d likely have blurted the good news to the whole world.
"Mrs. Xu, what’s the good news you’ve got? Share it with us." a woman working alongside chuckled.
"What good news could there be? Isn’t it Mumu’s earnings? She hasn’t stopped smiling since then." Madam Chen feigned helplessness but felt proud inside; who wouldn’t want their kids to do well?
"Caixia is truly blessed; I always knew Mumu had potential. I even carried her when she was little. Back then, her fair-skinned look was unparalleled among the children in this area." an older woman remarked with a smile, everyone acknowledged Xu Mumu’s good looks. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
A girl raised so tenderly in the countryside was indeed rare.
Xu Mumu had never done any labor and still got to study, now being in high school, something other girls couldn’t even dream of; knowing how to read brought numerous marriage proposals in the countryside.
"Indeed, it’s our Mumu who’s lucky; she’s incredibly capable, learns anything fast." Li Caixia began her senseless praise of her daughter.
Seeing Li Caixia boast again, others began to feel a headache, though they seldom saw Xu Mumu, they often heard about her.
"Caixia, how exactly did you raise such a capable girl as Mumu?" wondered the older woman, Xu Hai and his wife were known to be rowdy villagers, yet Xu Mumu had remained prominently visible, making her excellence hard for anyone not to notice.
Was it indeed a case of rough wood growing a fine shoot? Looking at Li Caixia and remembering Xu Mumu’s appearance, were it not for Xu Mumu resembling her parents somewhat, folks might think she was adopted.
