365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet-Chapter 163: So the Child Is His
Zinnia Lawrence glanced at Jenson Forrest with surprise, "What paternity test?"
She took the phone from the man’s hand, staring at the report on the screen with confusion.
This was not a paternity test, but a kinship identification report.
When Zinnia Lawrence saw that the result indicated a grandfather-grandson relationship, she was puzzled.
"Whose child is this?"
She quickly flipped back and, after clearly seeing the two names of the appraisers, she exclaimed in shock.
"Crystal Sutton’s baby is your godfather’s grandson, is it Raquel’s child?"
It turned out to be Raquel Sterling’s child!
Since Raquel Sterling had passed away, it wasn’t surprising that Jenson Forrest treated this child as his own nephew.
In the past two years, Raquel Sterling had also been busy with the Sterlings’ overseas business, just like Crystal Sutton who spent years in M Country.
It reminded her that when Crystal Sutton returned home, she came back with Jenson Forrest and the Sterling couple.
The netizens were unaware of their relationship and mistakenly thought the Sterlings were Crystal’s parents, saying Jenson Forrest was accompanying his future in-laws on a trip abroad.
Zinnia Lawrence suddenly understood, no wonder they returned home together.
"Because the Sterling Family is at a critical point of going public, Raquel’s death had too much impact, so you avoided talking about Crystal’s child being Raquel’s posthumous son?"
Zinnia Lawrence looked at Jenson Forrest, and Jenson nodded.
"Raquel and Crystal were never together; it was at a banquet where Raquel accidentally got drugged by a rival and bumped into Crystal. That night, Crystal was forced, and who knew she got pregnant from that."
"Crystal Sutton initially didn’t want the child, but when the Sutton Group faced trouble, I exchanged financial support for the Sutton Group and resources for Crystal then got her into the entertainment industry, as a means to convince her to keep the child."
Because of this, Jenson Forrest felt somewhat guilty towards Crystal Sutton.
After all, for a woman, being forced to give birth to the child of her assaulter is not a pleasant thing.
Moreover, that child is destined to be fatherless.
Zinnia Lawrence was once again dumbfounded; she never expected things to turn out like this.
No wonder, she always felt Crystal Sutton lacked genuine affection for the baby she was carrying.
If she really loved that baby, what mother would constantly act recklessly while pregnant?
Previously, Crystal Sutton had even pushed her into a pool.
"But that day, grandma forced Crystal Sutton to take a paternity test; it seemed that Mr. and Mrs. Sterling didn’t know the child was Raquel’s..."
"Godfather knows, but godmother, she’s already in the late stages of lung cancer. She’s unwell, and with the grief of losing her son, she can’t bear any more hope and disappointment.
Crystal Sutton previously had an unstable pregnancy and nearly miscarried. My godfather and I decided to keep it from my godmother, fearing that if the child couldn’t be kept, giving her hope only to destroy it would be unbearable, she might not even hold on for her last days..."
Jenson Forrest’s voice gradually turned worried.
The baby in Crystal Sutton’s womb was linked to Raquel Sterling’s death, and also linked to Mr. Sterling’s concealment of the real cause of Raquel’s death to ensure a smooth and legal public listing.
Nothing must happen to Mrs. Sterling because of this child.
Moreover, Raquel Sterling was an upright man, yet Crystal Sutton’s child came into the world under less-than-honorable circumstances.
The deceased is gone, but he didn’t want his brother to suffer from any more controversies.
Too much is tied up in this; revealing who the child’s father was would mean that many secrets couldn’t be kept.
Zinnia Lawrence did not expect Mrs. Sterling would have late-stage lung cancer. Previously she was quite angry at being pushed by Mrs. Sterling into the corner of a table, but now the discomfort in her heart had eased.
"No wonder you went along with grandma’s wish to have Crystal Sutton take an amniocentesis. It was because you knew Crystal Sutton was cheating, worried the child might not be Raquel’s."
Zinnia Lawrence now understood everything, yet she still felt that Jenson Forrest was hiding something.
If it was just like that, why had he been evasive every time she pressed him about it?
And the things Crystal Sutton said before, Zinnia felt slightly uneasy.
As she pondered over what else might be amiss, Jenson Forrest squeezed her hand, interrupting her thoughts.
"Who Crystal Sutton is with, and whether she’s in a relationship, doesn’t concern me, but nothing must happen to the child.
Once Crystal safely gives birth, the baby will be taken directly to the Sterling Family to be raised.
No one will know that the child is Crystal’s; it will only be announced that the child was left by Raquel’s girlfriend abroad.
So, you don’t have to worry about the child having too many ties to Crystal Sutton in the future.
Once she gives birth, she’ll receive her part of the bargain, will lead a normal life, and have no relation to the child."
Jenson Forrest raised his hand to touch Zinnia Lawrence’s head, "I promised Godfather that I’d keep the matter of the child a secret, so I never mentioned it until you know now."
"I am your wife, aren’t I? I wouldn’t spread it around even if you told me secretly."
Her nose felt a bit sour, he couldn’t know how much jealousy she felt over the child in Crystal’s womb, how much pain she endured. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Jenson Forrest narrowed his eyes at her, "I told you before that the child isn’t mine, and who was it that said it didn’t matter anymore? Now you’re feeling aggrieved?"
Zinnia felt a bit embarrassed and quickly changed the topic, "By the way, how did Raquel die?"
Jenson’s silhouette stiffened, and for a moment, a shadow of sorrow and pain seemed to cloak his handsome face, as if even the sunlight shunned away from his brows.
His Adam’s apple bobbed lightly before he rasped out two words, "Car accident."
What he didn’t say was that Raquel Sterling was on his way to see him when the accident happened.
If it hadn’t been for his call, Raquel would not have been driving late at night when fatigued, wouldn’t have had his car overturn, leading to the fatal accident and his untimely death.
It was his call that cost Raquel his life.
Moreover, the child in Crystal Sutton’s womb was related to this...
Therefore, no matter what, he couldn’t let anything happen to the child Crystal Sutton carried.
That was Raquel’s only bloodline, and possibly the Sterling Family’s only remaining legacy.
Jenson Forrest was suppressing his emotions to the extreme, his fists clenched, and his whole being sinking into a profound abyss of solitude and sorrow.
Zinnia Lawrence sensed something was wrong with Jenson Forrest’s mood; she thought he must have been deeply upset over Raquel’s passing.
She raised her hand to caress Jenson Forrest’s handsome face, soothing the furrowed brows, worriedly and helplessly calling his name.
"Third Brother, I’m sorry, I won’t ask anymore, don’t be sad..."
Jenson’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, he held Zinnia’s hand and kissed her fingers a couple of times.
His expression had calmed considerably, pulling Zinnia into his arms, his lips parting slightly, he said.
"Are you still jealous now? Not willing to accept Coco calling the child brother?"
Zinnia’s face heated up, feeling a bit embarrassed, she wrapped her arms around Jenson’s neck.
"I never imagined it would be like this! If you had told me earlier, how could I not have accepted that child?
Rest assured, Third Brother, you treat that child as your own nephew, as your wife, I will surely care for him too."
Her expression was serious and solemn, Raquel had been a good person.
Zinnia remembered a time in her childhood when she fought with Winston Forrest, and Raquel, passing by, helped teach Winston a lesson and gave her a piece of her favorite orange candy.
If Crystal Sutton couldn’t raise the child, Zinnia would be willing to embrace him.
Jenson Forrest looked at her, a smile unknowingly spreading across his face.
"Mrs. Forrest is so understanding and considerate?"
Zinnia lifted her chin, "Of course, I am inherently a kind-hearted little fairy."
The little woman’s eyebrows were charming, and her bright eyes shone with a playful radiance.
Jenson Forrest realized he hadn’t seen her exhibit such a carefree and joyful demeanor towards him for quite some time.
His heart swayed slightly, eyes dark yet alluring, lips curling as he asked.
"Now you’re willing to help me raise the child, so Mrs. Forrest is no longer contemplating divorce, hmm?"
He encircled her waist, "Tomorrow, let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to revoke the divorce application."
