365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet-Chapter 150: Won’t Rest Until the Child Is Gone
「Doctor’s Office.」
Zinnia Lawrence handed the angiogram to the doctor. After examining it, he informed her there were no issues.
She only felt at ease enough to leave the office after carefully inquiring about Jenson Forrest’s injuries.
She didn’t expect to see Crystal Sutton sitting in a waiting chair just outside the door, cradling her stomach.
Seeing her, Crystal immediately stood up and asked with concern, "Sis, I just found out Brother Jenson was injured. How is he? Can I go see him?"
As she spoke, she bent down and picked up a bouquet of flowers from the chair.
Zinnia’s gaze fell on the bouquet—a large arrangement of bellflowers and wisteria.
Having worked part-time at a flower shop, Zinnia knew the meanings behind these two flowers.
The bellflower symbolizes hopeless love, and the wisteria represents living for love and dying for love—being obsessed with a romance that can never be beautiful. They were two cold flowers with ill omens, completely unsuitable as a gift.
Crystal must have gone to great lengths to pick out these two specific flowers to give to Jenson.
"No, you can’t."
Zinnia coldly refused and began to walk away.
Crystal quickly chased after her with the bouquet. "Sis, I have good intentions! It’s fine if I don’t go in. Just take the bouquet inside for me to show my concern. By the way, about that question... have you asked Brother Jenson yet? Is he excited for our babies to grow up and play together? Actually, I think it would be nice if my baby took Brother Jenson as a godfather in the future..."
It felt like ten thousand flies were buzzing around her ears.
Unable to bear it any longer, Zinnia stopped abruptly. She spun around, snatched the bouquet from Crystal’s hands, and threw it onto the ground.
She lifted her foot and stomped the bouquet to a pulp, glaring at Crystal.
"The flowers are gone, so now you can get lost! My husband and I have discussed it, and we’re going to have a second and a third child. Our babies will have their own siblings! If your child wants a little brother, go ask his biological father to give him one. Stop coming here to disgust us!"
Crystal hung her head, staring at the trampled flowers as tears streamed down her face.
"Sis, these flowers were so beautiful, what did they do wrong? You’re going too far..."
She crouched down to pick up the ruined petals, acting as if it were her own glass heart that had been crushed.
"Zinnia! So arrogant and overbearing! Just look at the state of you!"
Just then, a familiar, sharp voice called out from behind her. Zinnia turned to see Katherine Rhodes, bag in hand, striding toward them in her usual elegant and expensive attire.
Seeing the reproach and loathing in Katherine’s eyes, Zinnia just laughed, crossing her arms and arching an eyebrow. I was wondering what kind of sappy drama she was putting on. Turns out she brought an audience.
Katherine’s brow furrowed as she stepped forward to help Crystal up.
"Aunt, I’m fine. I just lost my grip..."
"I saw everything. Besides, the flowers are completely trampled. Does that look like you just ’lost your grip’?"
Katherine shielded Crystal and glowered at Zinnia.
"What was that sarcastic tone just now? Hurry up and apologize to Crystal!"
Zinnia’s lips curled. "I’ve recently been diagnosed with a condition called ’Can’t Apologize.’ So I’m afraid I won’t be able to do that."
Katherine was already seething at the sight of Zinnia, and her backtalk made her snap. She raised her hand to strike Zinnia, shouting in a rage, "Then I’ll just have to cure you of that strange disease myself!"
But Zinnia was prepared. She shot her hand out and grabbed Katherine’s wrist.
Katherine tried to yank her hand free twice without success, which only made her angrier. "Zinnia, you dare lay a hand on me!?"
"Sis, Aunt is your mother-in-law, an elder! If you’re angry, take it out on me. Please let go of Aunt," Crystal pleaded anxiously. As she spoke, she reached up to pry Zinnia’s fingers away but took the opportunity to dig her nails viciously into Zinnia’s wrist.
Wincing in pain, Zinnia flung her hand away. The force sent Crystal staggering several steps back, stumbling toward the wall. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Crystal!"
Katherine cried out in alarm and rushed to catch Crystal, grabbing her just before she could fall.
Just then, the door to a nearby room opened. A tall man stood in the doorway, his expression cool as he gazed in their direction. It was clearly Jenson Forrest, drawn out by the commotion.
"Jenson, just look at what Zinnia has done! This woman is completely lawless. She even tried to attack me! Look at what she did to my wrist!" Katherine said, thrusting her hand out. She lived a pampered life, so her skin was fair and smooth, not unlike a young woman’s. The red marks from Zinnia’s grip stood out starkly.
Jenson’s gaze fell on the marks, and he frowned slightly.
Seeing his reaction, Katherine grew even more indignant. She supported the woeful-looking Crystal and nudged her toward Jenson.
"On top of that, Zinnia nearly pushed Crystal over just now. If I hadn’t been quick, she would have fallen and miscarried! Crystal is already here on bed rest, and Zinnia did this on purpose. She won’t rest until this child is gone! She was all set to divorce you and leave the country. Why on earth did you chase her back?"
Pushed two steps toward Jenson, Crystal didn’t fall into his arms. Instead, she hastily retreated a step and said, "Young Master Forrest, please don’t misunderstand. I just happened to hear you were hospitalized, so I bought some flowers to visit. I didn’t expect to upset Sis and run into Aunt. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll leave now."
She spoke in a tone that was both pitiful and placating, then turned to leave. Seeing this, Katherine grew even more displeased.
"Crystal, you are carrying Jenson’s child. Why can’t you visit him? You can’t leave! You’re not the one who should be going!"
Zinnia knew exactly who Katherine was telling to leave. She hadn’t wanted to stay any longer anyway, not with Katherine’s silver tongue and Crystal’s pitiful act.
Jenson personally saw her shove Crystal away. He saw the red marks on Katherine’s wrist and the trampled flowers on the floor. Wasn’t everything laid out before him just proof of her arrogance and disrespect? He already thought she was unreasonable, incapable of tolerating the innocent child in Crystal’s belly. After seeing all this, how could he not think the worst?
Disheartened, Zinnia let out a self-deprecating smile. She didn’t want to say another word and turned to leave.
But just as she turned, the man who had remained silent until now took a long stride forward, his hand shooting out to grasp her wrist.
"Ah!"
He had grabbed her right wrist—the one Crystal had just scratched. Zinnia couldn’t help but gasp in pain.
Jenson’s expression flickered. He immediately pulled her hand up to examine it.
Zinnia’s skin was exceptionally delicate, almost absurdly so. Jenson was always careful whenever he touched her.
On her fair skin, the few scratches looked shockingly vivid, like bloody gashes.
A cold glint entered the man’s eyes. "Who did this?"
An involuntary shiver went down Crystal’s spine, and she shrank back behind Katherine.
Zinnia’s gaze swept over to Crystal. Seeing her guilty expression, she suddenly changed her mind about leaving.
She looked up at Jenson, a ghost of a smile on her lips. Tilting her chin toward the guilty-looking Crystal, she said mockingly, "Her."
