Chapter 170: The Wilson’s Double Murder Case

Two weeks later, Jackson Detectives Agency.

Mike shot Alex a look while the younger man sat on the desk beside him in the Office. He gestured to their bearded boss, who was heading to the blond’s Office after the psychologist asked to speak with him after weeks of silence between them.

The boys were aware of what occurred two weeks before, something that honestly surprised them. But then again, Joe had always betted that one day the two geniuses would shag out the palpable sexual tension that they had denied for years.

Looking back months ago from where it all started, Mike realized that the two had seemed significantly closer, he should’ve paid attention to their body language more, but he was too busy dealing with work than taking notes on his boss’ possible sex life.

Marco knocked on the office door, "Levi," he greeted timidly as he entered. "Marco." The Irishman greeted casually, skimming through a file in his hand.

There was a long pregnant pause, a pause Marco felt uncomfortable with. He had learned from Elle that Levi had not shown up in Sam’s lab since the incident; they had not been seen together, nor had she been in Eastbourne from both the boys and Mrs. Whitehall updated chatter.

So, they imagined that it was safe to assume they had called quits.

"Levi." the bearded man tried to get his friend’s attention again, who was clearly in deep thought. The blond Irishman’s eyes widened in surprise; he was distracted. Why did he call the man to his office again?

"Ah, yes! Davies called for a case; double murder. The bodies are in the mortuary, up for it?" He asked. Marco furrowed his brows, "Yeah, yeah." he agreed, and Levi swiftly returned the file to the cabinet under his desk. Then he stood up, grabbing his suit jacket on the cabinet behind his desk and putting it on before heading out the door. "But--" Marco added, causing Levi to turn to him frowning. "What’s the craic?" the blond man asked.

Marco rubbed the back of his neck, noticing that even though the boys were not blatantly looking at them, he knew that they were listening. "You and Sam," he stated, a bit concerned. And guilty, they caused this. Whatever that is that the two were going through. This unnatural thing that was happening, they; Lisa, Elle, and he did this.

Levi’s eyes softened for a moment, "We have reached an agreement." he answered vaguely, moving forward to grab his coat by the rack. Then in a lighter mood, he turned to the bearded man behind him and said, "Shall we?"

Marco nodded and followed suit behind him. But as he closed the door, he noted how the boys’ shoulders sagged in disappointment. They knew hell was about to come sooner or later; with the redhead out of the picture, they reckon they will face what people call ’Hell freezing over.’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Morgue, Guy’s Hospital

Janet stood with a chart in hand beside Davies, waiting for the duo to arrive. Dr. Gray had left the explanation of the initial autopsy to her.

The freshly dyed oranged haired woman leaned closer to the Detective Inspector. "Did you hear?" she asked softly after checking they were alone. Davies cocked a brow in intrigued; she was hinting at gossip. He enjoyed a good gossip, but he would never admit that.

"Hear what?" He asked, mirroring her low tone. Janet opened her mouth, shutting it immediately when they heard the door swing open. Stepped inside were Levi and Marco.

Davies eyed her curiously but didn’t press; instead, she proceeded to the matter in hand, aka the dead bodies on the examining tables.

She pulled the sheet off the first cadavers." Philip Wilson, 52, Male, found in his own home, strangled to death two days ago." Davies explained, gesturing to the male body on the examination table. Levi and Marco looked at the body of a tall skinny white man with strangulation marks around his neck. "Cause of death, Manual strangulation," Janet added.

Davies sighed visibly, and Levi took note of Janet’s grim expression as she slowly revealed the second corpse’s on the next examining table.

Marco visibly flinched, silently balling his fist at the face of the dead woman. The paleness of her skin made the multiple bruises and cuts all over her body stand out.

"Rebecca Wilson, 47, Female. Strangulation and..." Janet started; her throat felt dry. She hated cases like that. "She was sexually assaulted multiple times and tortured," Davies finished for her.

"Dr. Gray is on forensics," Davies informed casually, knowing the blond would be satisfied hearing he would be working with the best. The blond arched a brow, "Then where is she?" he asked, knowing full well that if it were the redhead handling the case, she would be there; she had always been hands-on in all the cases she took. "She left early," Janet explained, causing Levi to frown more--Sam never leaves early unless needed to. So why?

Levi turned to Davies, "I need to see the crime scene personally." he stated, earning a nod from the man. After a 15 minute drive, they arrived at the scene of the crime. It was a humble home on a Farm in Kentish Town; it was a little piece of the Countryside in London. There were a riding stable and a petting zoo on the property.

Levi crossed the yellow police tape by the entrance alone, surveying the scene while Marco and Davies waited outside the house. The forensics team had already collected all the necessary evidence, but the slicked blond wanted to see the place himself to make a better mental map. Davies turned to Marco, "What’s up with him?" he asked out of the blue. "Why?" Marco asked back in a way Davies found defensive. The older gentleman shot the doctor a look, "Now, I’m curious. First, Janet, now you. Spill." Davies urged, sipping coffee from his paper cup. Thank the gods they passed by a Starbucks before heading there; he hadn’t been sleeping well since he took on the case. He needed a caffeine fix, knowing it was going to be a big one. He could sense it.

Marco sighed, defeated. He knew the man would hear one way or another, might as well come from him. "They broke up." He said.

"What?" Davies said, confused, "Were they ever actually dating in the first place? I thought it was all for the Press." he added.

Marco shrugged, unsure himself. "I don’t know. It’s complicated. Those two---" he trailed, searching for the right words. "I really don’t know," he said, not wanting to talk about it anymore.

Levi walked out of the house, hands in his coat pocket. "This is an isolated place for a couple," he said, looking at the surroundings. Not a house in sight.

"Mr. Wilson purchased it 7years back; the couple always wanted to be in the countryside. But didn’t want to be too far away from their two kids." he informed, then checking his notes, he said, "Alison and David Wilson, 26 and 21 respectively. Alison works at a publishing company, while David is in his third year in the London School of business."

He turned to look at the two, "Their alibi’s checked." he said; they had started their investigation, days before, after all. Only calling the blond’s expertise when the redhead advised him they needed a different approach on the case.

Levi nodded in understanding; he’d have to make his own sleuthing, of course. But so far, so good. "It’s a big place; who else works here?" the Irishman asked, knowing based on his estimation on the size of the place, he expects that there would have been too much workload just for two people to do.

"Cole Smith worked for the couple doing farm chores. He was also the one who found the bodies; he’s over there." Davies said, gesturing to the black young man stepping out of his pick-up a few meters away. He had asked him to come that afternoon for a follow-up interview.

Marco followed behind Levi, who made his way towards Cole. The two introduced themselves; they started with their routine interview. Cole shared how his day went the day he discovered the bodies. Based on his account, he did his chores that Monday morning and didn’t check for the couple until he found them later after lunch. He also wasn’t sure if the couple had company the night before or during the weekend, seeing as he only worked on the weekdays, staying only until 6. The two listened to the whole story, thanking him after.

Davies turned to the two minutes after Cole left, wondering if the slicked blond noticed anything amiss on the man’s statement.

"It’s not him; the kid is not physically built to take on Mr. Willis." the slicked blond said, noticing Davies’ expectant look. He had taken into consideration the help and the victim’s size. "And he’s gay," he added, causing Marco and Davies to scowl until they realized what he meant. It was highly unlikely for a gay man to rape the victim.

Satisfied, Levi and Marco drove back to Eastbourne, pondering on the case the whole way.
