100 Ways to Solve a Murder-Chapter 149: The Reunion VII
iThe Octagon, Queen Mary University
Sam looked at the back of Levi’s head as he pulled her along with him leaving David Fletcher on his own. He knew there was only one exit and he had to take that walk on his own, the rest the Bobbies will handle per standard operating procedure.
The redhead could feel how tightly the Irishman was holding her hand, almost desperately, and she wondered what was wrong. And what did he mean by evacuation? What for?
"Levi, what’s happening?" she asked the Irishman. Instead of an answer, the slicked blond opened the nearest door to his left and pulled her inside. Her brows furrowed in confusion, what was happening? Why were they there, in the dark empty room she could only assume was a lounge.
He saw the question in her eyes, and she parted her mouth to speak, but before she could utter a word, he pushed her back against the door, closing it shut as he did. And his hand found its way under her chin tilting it upwards firmly. His lips crashed against her roughly.
It was the first time he’d seen her in such a position, and he hated it. Months ago he thought he could deal with it, with her being with another man. He considered that they really were better off as friends. But right then, he knew that he was never okay with it. But he simply never even thought of it, always pushed it at the back of his mind. Out of sight, out of mind, after all.
But witnessing it, her mouth mashed against someone else’s made his skin crawll. The urge to break David’s bones and rip him into shreds was strong. And it took all of his self-control not to smash the bloke’s head against the bookshelves, and the only way for him to walk away without assaulting the man and foiling his plan was not to spare him a look.
Sam stood there heart thumping against her chest, soft lips kissing him back. His hands grabbed both sides of her face, tilting it to one side, gliding his lips against her once more.
And she wondered if time stopped, she could feel her adrenaline flowing through her veins. So much so that she forgot to breathe, and when she did, her senses were filled with his scent, hypnotizing her beyond reason. Her knees grew weak as he nipped on her lower lip, and his warm tongue brushed against hers in heated passion.
Levi swallowed hard as her hand slid over his Tuxedo. Her tiny hands gripped against his black vests, desperately trying to steady herself before her knees gave out. His left arm slid around her waist, pulling her close, pressing his body against her, trapping her against the door. His right hand grabbed the back of her hair, tilting her head further back as his lips met hers once more, deeper, rougher.
He kept his eyes half-open, watching her every time she came back for air. Her scent filled his senses, and his tongue explored the depths of her mouth. The intensity took hold of him, and everything accelerated.
A couple of knocks sounded on the closed door, and the spell broke. An annoyed growl passed Levi’s throat, while Sam tried to catch her breath, him still standing so close to her as he pulled the door open. Two uniformed police officers stood by the door looking at them in surprise; they recognized the two. And based on their dishevelled and flushed appearance they have a few ideas on what they were doing inside the dark room.
The short officer cleared his throat, "Pardon us, Dr. Gray, Mr. Jackson. We’re evacuating everyone, please head to the exit for your safety." he instructed, Levi clenched his jaw as he brushed his hand over his hair.
Then he pulled Sam with him as he stepped out of the door, "Good evening" the redhead muttered as they walked away.
Sam’s mind was still in a haze as she followed Levi; she paused for a moment catching his attention. He turned to look at her, her mouth was open, but she didn’t know where she should start. Fear flashed in her eyes, her mind filled with doubts. Brain listing all the things that could go wrong if they...if they ’change’.
"What--what was that?" she asked, looking up at him.
Levi saw the doubt in her eyes; he saw the fear. So, it wasn’t just him thinking of all the things that could go wrong between them, and it’s a long list. The mental image of a dead bunny in his hands decades ago flashed in his mind, the red staining his small hands. And a voice in his mind wondered if she’d die in his hands too. But those fears in him were gone, he wasn’t a powerless child anymore. Yet he could relate to what he could only imagine running in her mind. If he pushed too far, he knew she’d run. So, he decided to take another route. He can play the long game.
Levi sneered at her, surprising the redhead.
"You kissed him." he spat, and though his tone was even, Sam didn’t miss the absolute discontent in his voice. "It’s just a kiss," Sam said, lost as to why they were even discussing that instead of HIS kiss. She hated using her female charms, especially on criminals.
"You were snogging the man. Let me guess, tongue?" Levi spat, now clearly more articulate with his displeasure. Sam flinched, did he just insult her for something she did for him? Anger filled her, forgetting what just occurred minutes before, and she fisted her hands.
’What an ungrateful anal man!’
She glared at him, seething of annoyance, "You told me to distract him! Don’t insult me for
something I did to help you." She retorted, almost shouting in the hallway.
"I told you to distract him, not make out with the man! He was engaged!" Levi shouted at her, his plan going according to plan. "Why the bloody hell are you so angry!? You dragged me into this! And I did what needed to be done to bloody distract him as you told me to!" She was absolutely annoyed, she kissed a murderer for him, and what does she get?!
Insults!
Ridicule!
Levi scoffed, "The Public knows you as my girlfriend--- if you don’t recall, at least have it at closed doors! I have an international reputation." He lied through his teeth; he didn’t give a damn about his reputation. Never did, not going to start anytime soon.
"When did you start caring about what other people think?! And you caused that problem too, so don’t criticize me! I didn’t bloody enjoy a second of it!" Sam pointed out. Levi rolled his eyes in disbelief, "You looked like you were, even letting him touch you inappropriately." He replied jaw clenched at the memory. Her hand grabbing David’s collar in a heated kiss, while his travelled along her thigh. The Irishman didn’t even go that far. So, he was far from pleased.
Her blood boiled out of sheer anger, he was the one who placed her in that position--and now she was the bad guy for bloody doing what needed to be done. "Seeing as you had no problem snogging a plausible murderer I thought I’d give it a shot." he spat.
He stepped towards her, leaned closer and said under his breath, "And you didn’t even fight back."
One second after Sam saw red, and her fist slammed into his face. Levi stumbled backwards, and pain erupted the second her fist made contact to his jaw with such force blood pooled in his mouth. Feck, did he push too hard? he wondered. No, he realized, her anger was better than her running off.
Levi grabbed his mouth, bent forward in an attempt not to stain his tuxedo. His teeth stained with blood, he looked at her glaring down at him.
Seeing him look at her like a deer in headlights, she reigned her emotions, afraid that she might cry right then and there at how upset she was. He’d done her some shits, like fake his accident just to get back at her for being late. Most she genuinely thought was childish pranks--to catch her attention. But this one was different, and this one was too much. That kiss was too much for a joke.
"I will not waste time with this petty argument. Next time don’t drag me into shit like this and condemn me for helping you!" she spat then turned to walk off. "And for the record..." She said, pausing mid-step. "He was a horrible kisser, next time you put me in that situation; I’ll aim for your nose!" She threatened, walking away and leaving him there bleeding. She bumped into Davies at the end of the hallway, the older gentleman stepping away from her. He just caught enough to understand the situation. Levi was a douche, so she punched him. Nothing new.
