Chapter 176: Individual Interview
In the early days, everyone was still somewhat unfamiliar with one another. Hence, May Hoffman was always seen by Hannah’s side. May was always quietly introverted, head bowed, and uninterested in talking much.
Despite always trailing behind Hannah, and despite Hannah telling her several times not to follow her around, May remained steadfast, clinging to her strange obsession.
Until one day, Lucy Taylor shared some words with May. May looked reluctantly at Hannah before finally nodding in agreement.
From that day on, May went from being Hannah’s lackey to Lucy’s instead.
Since the first stage rating would take place the following week, the dance and vocal practice rooms in the building were always open for everyone to rehearse.
Most people spent their time sweating it out in the practice rooms, eager to leave a good impression on the audience. Hannah, on the other hand, would spend her days strolling around, biting into an apple as if she had no worries whatsoever.
Every so often, she’d stand outside the classrooms, watching others practice their dance routines while thoroughly enjoying her apple.
Hannah’s unconventional behaviours caught the attention of the program team, who organized a solo interview for her.
She was the first one among everyone to be given a solo interview, prompting envy from the rest.
The producers were impressed with Hannah. Out of the hundred people, Hannah was the most striking and was easily noticeable in a crowd. Nonetheless, they were unsure about the audience’s reaction after the show was broadcast.
The producers set up a series of tricky questions for Hannah, attempting to create the program’s first trending topic or viral moment.
"Everyone else is practicing; why aren’t you? Is it because of overconfidence?"
"What are your expectations for your rank in the performance evaluation? Do you think there’s a chance you’ll come out on top?"
"After watching the other contestants’ performances, what are your thoughts? Do you believe you have a chance to outperform everyone?"
The questions were quite aggressive.
In front of the camera, the girl’s face looked striking, even in the face of these difficult questions. Her smile didn’t waver; with just a touch of make-up, she was a picture of beauty.
Seeing her, the cameramen couldn’t help but sigh: her beauty was unparalleled, even by entertainment industry standards.
Hannah looked into the camera, her red lips curving into a smile, her eyes twinkling with amusement, she remarked, "Why am I not bothered? Well, probably because I’m too beautiful. Seeing this face of mine always lifts my spirits; where would I find the time to be nervous?"
She spoke in an enchanting, soft, and slightly languid tone. Even when she said something as arrogant as this, it was hard to dislike her. It seemed like she was always meant to be this way.
However, exuding such arrogance in a talent show might not sit well with the audience.
Indeed, after Hannah, the production team interviews a few popular contestants. Most of them were modest, although a few were as confident as Hannah when it came to claiming the centre stage or achieving debut.
Nevertheless, compared to Hannah’s statement, they paled in comparison.
After viewing Hannah’s and other contestants’ interviews, the producer did not hesitate to order the complete broadcast of Hannah’s audacious statement.
The producers also guided opinions to their advantage.
Sacrificing one person to create a buzz for the show is a common strategy for talent shows. The producer could already foresee the heated discussions that would ensue once the interview was released.
