National Guardian's Gone and We're Done
Chapter 222 - 221: How Could Something Like This Warrant Him Coming in Person?
"The truths recorded in these files are absolutely heinous.
Forget the victims and the general public—even I’m burning with rage just from reading them.
What’s more, based on their actions, the true culprit behind the Paperman incidents is someone who despises evil.
If they see this, how could they possibly stand by and do nothing? They’re bound to take action."
Qi Chaoyu understood Chu He’s meaning. "Understood," he said. "I’ll disseminate all of this immediately."
"Don’t do it in the Defense Team’s name. Release it as if it were a grassroots rumor, but one backed by solid evidence.
You can even embellish the contents of these files to make them more infuriating.
We have to provoke that person into showing themselves in a short amount of time."
Chu He glanced at Qi Chaoyu.
"I understand."
Qi Chaoyu nodded, then stood up and said, "As of now, I am taking command of the local Huamen City Defense Team.
You all heard what was just said.
Now, go and get this done immediately. I want this to become a city-wide storm before dawn today."
Bi Hongda sat there with his head lowered, not saying a word.
The local Huamen City Defense Team members subconsciously glanced at Bi Hongda. Understanding the situation he was now in, they followed Qi Chaoyu’s arrangements and left to carry out their orders.
"Mr. Chu, are we heading to Zhang Jiancheng’s place next?" Qi Chaoyu asked.
"Correct."
Chu He nodded. "Next, have someone take Bi Hongda into custody. We can’t rule out the possibility that he was colluding with someone behind the scenes, which is why these things went unnoticed for so long."
Chu He’s words were quite merciless, but there was a real possibility he was right.
The corner of Bi Hongda’s eye twitched. He wanted to defend himself, but in the end, the words died on his lips, and he swallowed them back helplessly.
Given the situation he had created, any attempt to explain himself would be futile.
’If I were in Chu He and Qi Chaoyu’s shoes, I would be just as suspicious.’
After all, the Defense Team possessed immense authority.
If even the highest-ranking member of Huamen City’s local administration were compromised, the Defense Team had the power to arrest first and investigate later.
Therefore, a Defense Team in any region could completely disregard other local departments when carrying out their duties.
Yet, despite possessing such high authority and having a force composed entirely of Martial Artists, they had still been operating like they were blind.
If the Paperman incident hadn’t exposed all of this, Bi Hongda would have likely remained "blind" in Huamen City indefinitely.
Qi Chaoyu made a hand signal, and several Defense Team members immediately came forward.
They confiscated all of Bi Hongda’s communication devices and then escorted him to a room equipped with a signal jammer to be detained.
These few Defense Team members were all personnel Qi Chaoyu had brought with him from the Royal City headquarters.
Chu He didn’t take many people with him to Zhang Jiancheng’s place, only asking Qi Chaoyu and Yumizakura to follow.
After going downstairs and getting into the car, Qi Chaoyu took the wheel.
With both hands on the steering wheel, he started the car and drove away from the Defense Team’s office building. He asked hesitantly, "Mr. Chu,
if I’m not here to keep an eye on things, won’t there be trouble with the Defense Team?
After all, right now, no one in the entire Huamen City Defense Team, from top to bottom, can be trusted. Only a headquarters investigation can bring the truth to light."
"It doesn’t matter."
Chu He shook his head. "I don’t care if someone tips off Zhang Jiancheng. I just need these stories to spread by word of mouth among the public and eventually reach that person’s ears. That will be enough to make them reveal themselves."
Qi Chaoyu became thoughtful, faintly grasping Chu He’s true intention.
The crimes on Zhang Jiancheng’s side were already monstrously evil; he could simply be arrested when the time came.
It didn’t matter whether the files contained a complete record of his vile deeds.
After a thorough investigation by headquarters, all the details would be brought to light anyway.
The most important thing right now was the true culprit behind the Paperman incidents—the one hiding in the shadows, delivering justice.
The drive from the Defense Team headquarters to Zhang Jiancheng’s residence took about half an hour.
Soon, the car stopped under a tree.
There were few vehicles here, for this was Huamen City’s famous affluent district.
The cars parked along the road were all models that cost at least 500,000, even for the cheapest ones.
Luxury cars worth several million were a common sight.
The area had scenic high-rise apartments, numerous villas, and even some estates.
"That estate-style villa up ahead is where Zhang Jiancheng’s family lives."
Qi Chaoyu opened his car door, getting out with Chu He and Yumizakura.
He pointed to a large, luxurious villa ahead that was still brightly lit, even in the dead of night.
It had a huge yard with a fountain, and even at this hour, the pleasant sound of splashing water could be heard.
...
In an age of advanced internet, information spread with incredible speed.
Zhang Jiancheng had married into his wife’s family, and by relying on his father-in-law’s influence, he had become a man of considerable wealth in the region.
The villa had five floors, with over ten bedrooms alone.
So, Zhang Jiancheng and his wife usually lived here as well.
Tonight, however, no one in the family felt like sleeping.
This was because Zhang Jiancheng’s father-in-law, Huang Haibo, had received a secret message that evening.
It said that the events in Huamen City had alarmed the Royal City, and the Royal City Defense Headquarters had dispatched someone.
It also claimed that a major figure would be coming personally.
As for who this major figure was, it was still unknown.
Chu He’s arrival had been kept under wraps by Liu Yuzhu’s specific orders.
"Why haven’t we found that bastard hiding in the shadows yet? He’s stirred up a dangerous undercurrent throughout Huamen City. What the hell is his goal?"
Huang Haibo, his hair streaked with gray, slammed his hand on the table. "Do you know who the major figure sent by the Royal City headquarters is?"
"Who is it?" asked Zhang Jiancheng’s wife, Huang Qiucheng.
"It’s Chu He."
Even in his furious state, Huang Haibo couldn’t help but lower his voice when he mentioned the name, as if speaking it aloud would summon something terrible.
"What? How could it be Chu He? Why would something like this warrant him coming in person?"
Zhang Jiancheng asked, his face paling in shock.
Chu He was a renowned figure throughout the entire Great Xia Empire. They never would have dreamed that they would one day cross paths with such a man.
After all, given their status and their actions, they were already standing in opposition to Chu He, and his goal in coming here was to eliminate them.
Huang Qiucheng’s face also turned deathly pale, and she couldn’t stop herself from trembling.
A man’s reputation precedes him. Anyone would be terrified to stand against Chu He now.
After all, even a behemoth like the Lighthouse Empire had suffered constant losses at his hands.
"Haibo, didn’t you call in some shady connections? Can’t even those guys find the real mastermind?
If we can drag that person out and get rid of them before the investigation reaches us, won’t we still have a chance to save ourselves?"
A woman beside him tugged on Huang Haibo’s arm and said resentfully.
