My Space Connects to the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 79: Making Chi Wan Fall into the Situation He Wanted
The file Zhou Huaijin was holding actually contained the clues that led He Lingfeng to discover Song Yangming’s identity.
Truth be told, it was all down to Song Yangming’s own bad luck.
Under normal circumstances, the He Family would have never discovered that a person like him even existed.
Song Baihan’s mistress had an ace up her sleeve, so of course she told him he had a son with the surname "Song" living out in the world.
Song Baihan had always known about Song Yangming. Perhaps the fact that his son shared his surname finally gave him a sliver of "masculine pride." In that sense, his mistress’s gamble had paid off; Song Baihan did care about this son, at least a little.
But only a little, because Song Baihan didn’t dare do anything too obvious, for fear of attracting He Yunzhen’s attention.
Having been a kept man for so many years and even managing to "secure his position," Song Baihan was naturally clever.
He didn’t focus on Song Yangming directly, instead choosing a roundabout approach: one of the subsidiaries under his name inconspicuously used two orders to "coincidentally" support Chi Yuanshan’s company.
Publicly, he and Chi Yuanshan had no reason to have any dealings. Moreover, while these orders were huge for Chi Yuanshan, for a corporation like the He Family with its many subsidiaries, they were barely noticeable.
As a result, even Chi Yuanshan himself didn’t know that the orders he had struggled so hard to land in the early days of his company were actually targeted at him from the very beginning.
So, Chi Yuanshan slowly made his fortune, and by extension, Song Yangming’s life improved as well. After that, Song Baihan no longer involved himself in their affairs.
Given these circumstances, the fact that He Lingfeng discovered Song Yangming’s existence could only be described as a cruel twist of fate.
One of Chi Wan’s college roommates was a girl named Qi Youyou. Her family wasn’t particularly well-off, but her grades were excellent, so she often worked part-time jobs to cover her living expenses, including tutoring.
Yes, as it so happened, the person who hired Qi Youyou as a tutor was none other than He Lingfeng’s younger sister, He Lingshan.
Qi Youyou and Chi Wan had always gotten along well. So, one time, after swapping shifts at her coffee shop job, Qi Youyou couldn’t make it to her tutoring appointment with He Lingshan, so she asked Chi Wan to cover two sessions for her.
Of course, Chi Wan agreed. She knew it hadn’t been easy for Qi Youyou to test her way out of the remote mountains. Though it was hard for Qi Youyou to balance her studies with earning money, she never once wallowed in self-pity or acted entitled because of her background. She was a very positive and determined girl.
As for He Lingshan herself, she couldn’t have cared less about tutoring; it was just something to appease He Rong. So when she heard Qi Youyou was getting a roommate to cover two sessions, she agreed without a second thought.
Then, on the day Chi Wan came to substitute, He Lingshan took advantage of He Rong not being home and slipped out to have fun, with no intention of actually attending the lesson.
She had it all figured out: Qi Youyou was the one asking for a favor, so she was already on the back foot. The substitute would be getting paid for two sessions for doing nothing, so she wouldn’t want to jeopardize Qi Youyou’s "high-paying" gig and would therefore never dare to tattle on her.
So, when Chi Wan arrived, she was greeted by an empty study and a note on the desk: "Tattle on me and I’ll fire Qi Youyou."
Chi Wan smiled helplessly, took a photo of the note to send to Qi Youyou, and then sat by the window, reading a book for two hours out of sheer boredom.
During that time, the study door did open once. She assumed her client, "Sansan," had returned. Qi Youyou’s Mandarin wasn’t perfect, and since Chi Wan was only covering one time, all she knew was that the client’s name was "Sansan."
She had no idea that it wasn’t "Sansan," but "Shanshan."
But that’s a digression. In any case, when Chi Wan heard the movement and turned around, she didn’t see anyone and just assumed the wind had moved the door.
She had no idea that her serene and beautiful profile, bathed in the sunlight, had already been captured by a pair of sinister eyes.
What happened next was a matter of course.
Having accidentally discovered that his sister’s tutor was very much his type, He Lingfeng immediately decided to make his move. ’She’s just some poor college student,’ he thought. ’I’ll spend a little money to keep her for a while, and then dump her when I get bored.’
He just hadn’t expected that Chi Wan didn’t seem to be short on money.
Just as He Lingfeng was plotting to mess with Chi Yuanshan’s business to make Chi Wan a little more "desperate" and thus easier for him to swoop in, he finally discovered Song Yangming’s existence.
He had discovered that Chi Wan’s family company, to his surprise, had business dealings with a company under Song Baihan’s name.
He was immediately overjoyed and took the matter straight to He Rong. He knew his father would never allow anyone to threaten his right to inheritance—not even a completely oblivious Song Yangming.
As the "hero" who had discovered the matter, and given that Song Yangming seemed like a hopeless case, He Rong simply gave He Lingfeng full authority to resolve the issue.
And so, the end result was that He Lingfeng, driven by his own selfish desires, destroyed Chi Yuanshan’s company in the process, finally forcing Chi Wan into the desperate situation he had wanted all along.
However, before he could make his move, the authorities launched a secret crackdown on overseas human trafficking. During this time, not just He Yunzhen’s branch, but the entire He Family had to lie low, terrified that any sort of leverage against them would be found. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Because of this, He Yunzhen even made a special trip back to the old family residence in Zhu City. It was said she also took a side trip to Hong Kong.
Thus, the He Family had to keep a low profile for a while, and He Lingfeng couldn’t find a suitable opportunity to make a move on Chi Wan. He had planned to wait until the school semester started to reconsider his options.
But who would have thought that Chi Wan’s family would somehow manage to get back on their feet?
He Lingfeng was naturally unwilling to let his prize slip through his fingers. He planned to use his old tricks again, having the same partners who had previously avoided Chi Yuanshan like the plague get in touch with him to see if they could trip him up once more.
Thankfully, He Yunzhen returned, discovered what he had been up to, and gave him a stern warning. He Lingfeng had no choice but to lie low for a while.
If it weren’t for the considerable "gray area" resources Zhou Huai’an had amassed over the years, and the fact that he was working backward from the outcome, he might never have pieced together the truth. After all, who could imagine someone being so unhinged over something so trivial?
In fact, this conclusion of Zhou Huai’an’s was merely an inference, pieced together from the clues he’d found and a general understanding of He Lingfeng’s character. He had no concrete evidence.
He was showing it to Chi Wan only as a warning for her to be careful.
Perhaps it takes a man to understand another man’s mind. With someone like He Lingfeng, if he had managed to get Chi Wan easily and without any trouble, he probably would have gotten bored of her before long.
But when faced with so many obstacles, it would instead ignite his dark, obsessive possessiveness and his competitive drive.
After listening to Zhou Huai’an’s analysis, Zhou Huaijin let out a sharp breath. He couldn’t stay put a moment longer. Tossing out a quick, "I’m going to find Wanwan," he bolted for the door.
Zhou Huai’an grabbed him and said irritably, "Have you looked at the time? Are you planning to rush over to Chi Wan’s place and spend the night? It can wait. You can chat with her tonight and set up a time to meet her tomorrow."
Looking at Zhou Huaijin’s frustrated face, Zhou Huai’an sighed for what felt like the hundredth time. ’He was such a smart kid. How did he get so dense?’
