Chapter 444: Chapter 264: Polluted Soldiers (Part 2)

In just seven or eight minutes, more than half of the two thousand-plus abnormals on the scene had been cut down in the charge, leaving only a few scattered ones behind.

At this point, Fang Zhen and his men’s primary target shifted to the human soldiers under the Eternal Night Council’s command.

Fang Zhen watched from a distance and noticed something strange about these human soldiers.

The soldiers’ faces were covered in a dark, messy substance, a bit like Beijing opera face paint. Their entire appearance was dark, making it impossible to discern their features. They all looked identical.

Upon closer inspection, Fang Zhen suddenly realized that these men were all wearing a strange type of mask.

The masks resembled the human-like faces on the backs of the Ghost-faced Spiders, creating a horrifying effect. It seemed every soldier wore the exact same one.

The sight was unsettling, creating a feeling akin to the uncanny valley effect.

Fang Zhen frowned. He still wanted to test the strength of these soldiers.

’These must be the polluted soldiers from the intel report, the ones with no sense of pain or free will.’

He spurred his horse and charged toward the squad of soldiers. Faced with the onslaught from Fang Zhen’s Curse Sealer cavalry, the soldiers remained completely unfazed. They were like a group of manipulated puppets, perfectly calm, their composure unshaken.

Seeing Fang Zhen charge, the polluted soldiers maintained a steady pace, formed a battle line, and advanced to meet him.

Fang Zhen reached the soldier at the very front and thrust his spear!

BOOM! Fang Zhen’s spear pierced the soldier’s chest armor. He used the Second-stage Power Mountain Seal, blasting away more than half the flesh from the man’s back.

Fang Zhen felt the soldier wasn’t as strong as he’d imagined. He seemed like an ordinary human soldier, perhaps just a little stronger.

But even though the soldier’s torso had been blown open, his hands gripped Fang Zhen’s spear tightly, refusing to let go. He showed no fear and seemed completely indifferent to his own life. His only goal was to pin down Fang Zhen’s weapon so the soldiers behind could rush in and deliver a fatal blow.

Fang Zhen gave his spear a powerful shake and yanked it back. The soldier’s hands were instantly mangled into a bloody pulp. By the time the spear was free, the man’s hands were completely destroyed.

The soldier, at his last breath, lost all strength and collapsed to the ground, motionless.

However, the death of their comrade failed to elicit any emotional response from the surrounding ghost-faced soldiers.

They continued to advance on Fang Zhen like machines, their steps almost perfectly synchronized. It was as if they intended to use their own corpses to drag him down into the abyss of death.

"What the hell are these things," Fang Zhen cursed. He swept his spear in a wide arc, and an explosive ripple shot out horizontally, engulfing a large, fan-shaped area within a four-to-five-meter radius.

The wave was invisible yet tangible, like a transparent shockwave. In an instant, the chests of dozens of soldiers were blown open, splattering blood across the ground.

Fang Zhen had used Li Shan Seal: Sky Splitting. Against the densely packed formation of the polluted soldiers, a move like this was incredibly effective.

Yet even this bloody spectacle failed to provoke any negative reaction from the surrounding polluted soldiers. The ghost-faced soldiers were like robots, completely devoid of emotion.

At this point, Fang Zhen was finally certain. These polluted soldiers could no longer be called human. They were nothing more than unfeeling machines forged from men.

He had no desire to slaughter these polluted beings. Killing them stirred a strange, negative feeling within him.

It was a mixture of pity and sympathy, along with a deep-seated anger at whoever had turned human beings into this.

Fang Zhen didn’t want to vent his anger on the polluted soldiers. He wheeled his horse around, leading the Curse Sealer cavalry behind him, and changed direction to continue their charge against the scattered Abnormal Ghosts and Ghost-faced Spiders at the edge of the beach.

After charging back and forth two more times, the abnormals on the battlefield were all but wiped out. The ground was littered with their blood and severed limbs.

Fang Zhen’s and Alexander’s cavalry units regrouped. Their combined forces once again became an overwhelmingly powerful squadron.

Even Alexander was surprised by the results of the battle; he hadn’t expected the charge to be so effective.

When Fang Zhen’s group had first arrived, more abnormals were still coming ashore, swelling the numbers on the beach to nearly two thousand abnormals and polluted soldiers combined. Yet, after just a few charges, they had killed twelve to thirteen hundred of the abnormals.

Alexander had never achieved such a decisive victory before. He was also beginning to realize just how potent the effects of the Blood Burst Secret Medicine were in a situation like this.

Fang Zhen, however, found it perfectly normal. ’As long as you use the right tactics, monsters that once seemed formidable are revealed to be much weaker than they appear.’

At this point, the morale of the Curse Sealers was soaring.

These Curse Sealers had battlefield experience, and they knew that killing a single Abnormal Ghost was an incredibly difficult task.

But now, with the Blood Burst Secret Medicine, they were discovering that victory could be this easy.

The Curse Sealers were also realizing that the truly difficult opponents were the polluted soldiers.

The polluted human soldiers had no emotions, no sense of pain, and no fear. All they did was fight to the death.
