Felix Shaw also said that none of the hospitals in T City had admitted a patient named Sophie Foster...

Xiaomei said that the woman in the ambulance at the time claimed to be Lara’s older sister. From her description, it was definitely Hannah Hargrave, and Hannah herself admitted she was the one who called the ambulance and had Lara taken away.

Since no hospital in T City has her, then the most likely situation is that she’s hidden Lara somewhere.

Nicholas Croft knew Sophie Foster’s life wouldn’t be in danger, but the moment he thought of his wife having to face the pain of losing her child all alone, his chest clenched so hard he couldn’t breathe.

Just a few days ago she’d bought a big bag of clothes for the baby—pretty floral dresses, a little trench coat, she’d even bought shoes. Every night she’d take those clothes out one by one like she was showing off some treasure, then carefully put them away again...

He couldn’t bear to imagine what it was like when Sophie found out the baby was gone, because as soon as he pictured it, he wanted nothing more than to rush in front of Hannah Hargrave and kill her with his bare hands!

"Oooo..." Panda Eyes seemed to understand what his master meant, whimpering at Nicholas. For the first time, Nicholas realized animals really did have joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.

Back when it stayed by Sophie’s side, Panda Eyes was very gentle. When it saw him come home from work it would happily wag its tail at him, and when he scolded it, it would look so wronged. Now, Panda Eyes actually had a miserable doggy face on.

Its brows and eyes drooped, even its whimpers were tinged with desolation.

Nicholas drew in a breath and, after exhaling, rested his forehead against Panda Eyes’s head, his big hand gently stroking its fur. The animal he’d always found to be in the way had, today, become his only comfort. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Cough, cough..."

Nicholas coughed a few more times, and Panda Eyes suddenly wriggled out of his arms and stood up. Its eyes, ringed with white fur, fixed tightly on him, then it darted off his lap again and bit at his sleeve.

It was just an ordinary cold, but Nicholas still had Evander Lancaster come over to check on him. Sophie Foster hadn’t come back yet; he couldn’t afford to collapse.

Felix Shaw and his wife also rushed over. When they heard that Hannah Hargrave had hidden Sophie, Felix instantly jumped up, shouting that he was going to find Hannah to settle the score, only to be stopped by Mia Foster.

"Sit down! If charging in headfirst could bring Lara back, your big brother would’ve done it long ago!"

Scolded by Mia, Felix was still indignant, standing in the living room with his hands on his hips, yelling, "Why the hell not? Big Brother is Sophie’s husband, it’s perfectly reasonable for him to take care of her! Who the hell does Hannah Hargrave think she is? Playing the family card at a time like this—she’s just trying to take advantage of the situation if you ask me!"

"Big Brother, why won’t Hannah Hargrave let Sophie come out? Did she ask for something?"

Evander Lancaster might not look as sharp as the three brothers usually, but his mind was in no way inferior to theirs.

Nicholas let out a silent sigh and said, "For now she hasn’t. She just said taking care of Lara is the Hargrave Family’s responsibility."

"No conditions? Then what’s Hannah Hargrave after?" As soon as Nicholas finished, Felix turned back around in disbelief, still standing there with his hands on his hips, voice raised. Mia couldn’t stand it, grabbed his arm, and yanked him down onto the sofa, saying unhappily, "Just sit down already, what are you yelling for!"

"No, I—this doesn’t make any sense!" Felix was still struggling in protest. Mia glared at him, annoyed, and only then did he finally quiet down, swallowing back what he’d been about to say.

Evander didn’t say anything, merely smiled faintly without giving himself away. No one would believe Hannah Hargrave hadn’t named any conditions.

If you don’t have a motive, who’s willing to take care of a sick person?
