Quentin Grant, sitting in the front, turned his head. "Just calm down for now. Focus on getting better before you think about anything else."

Jean Grant retorted, "Brother, I don’t need to calm down. Don’t you trust Ethan Ellsworth? We’re going to get married."

A wave of irritation suddenly washed over Ethan Ellsworth. "Grant, stop the car," he said.

The car stopped, and he opened the door. "I want to be alone for a bit. You guys go on ahead."

Jean Grant was stunned. She watched as the car pulled away, leaving Ethan Ellsworth standing on the roadside, growing smaller in the distance. Only then did she react. "Brother, what’s... what’s wrong with him?"

Quentin Grant sighed. "Jean, you’re really disappointing me. Even now, you still don’t see what you did wrong? Even if you and Marlon Marshall weren’t divorced yet, once you decided to be with Ethan Ellsworth, why would you still—with Marlon—"

He turned back to face forward. "I’m not getting involved in your affairs anymore. Nora and I are going abroad tomorrow."

"Going abroad? Where to?"

Quentin Grant explained flatly, "Nora isn’t feeling well. We’re going to see a doctor."

The car pulled up to their residential community.

Outside the villa.

Mrs. Grant was standing at the door, seemingly waiting for them.

"Mom, when did you get here?"

Mrs. Grant stepped forward and looked at Jean Grant. "Is it done?"

Jean Grant nodded. "I’ve put an end to that marriage. I was originally planning to wait another two weeks."

Mrs. Grant said bluntly, "I’ve long said you should have divorced him immediately. Look at him and his mother—so provincial!"

Jean Grant pointed toward the door. "Let’s talk inside." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Mrs. Grant turned and they entered Quentin Grant’s villa together.

As soon as they entered the living room, they saw Nora Ainsworth.

Her initial anger swelled. "Quentin, I saw on the news last night that you two are back together. Are you deliberately trying to kill me with anger?"

Quentin Grant waved his hand dismissively. "That’s enough, Mom. Stay out of my business. Let’s just talk about Jean."

"You are both my children. I’ll talk about both of you."

When Nora Ainsworth saw Mrs. Grant arrive, she quickly poured some tea and offered it to her with both hands. "Auntie, please have some tea."

Mrs. Grant swatted the cup away. It flipped over, hit the floor with a sharp CRACK, and shattered into pieces. The scalding tea splashed all over Nora Ainsworth’s hands, and she gasped in pain.

Forgetting about his mother for a moment, Quentin Grant pulled Nora into the bathroom and plunged her hands into cold water.

He immediately ordered someone to bring ointment.

Looking at the large blisters forming on the back of her hands, his heart ached for her. "Does it hurt?"

With tears in her eyes, Nora Ainsworth nodded. ’Of course it hurts, how could it not?’

Quentin Grant gave her a kiss. "You go upstairs and get your luggage ready for tomorrow."

He then walked back into the living room, his expression turning cold. "Nora was just being kind and pouring you tea, Mom. What was that for?"

"It was an accident," she said, her brow furrowed.

"Whether it was an accident or not, don’t you think I saw what happened? She’s going to be your daughter-in-law. If you can’t stand the sight of her, then please, don’t come here anymore."

Mrs. Grant stood up. "Are you going to turn against me again for this woman?!"

"Yes. I can’t stand to see you treat her like this. The way you treat her is the way you treat me. Nora and I are going abroad tomorrow. I hope that by the time we return, you can accept her wholeheartedly."

Mrs. Grant was furious. She could tell her son wasn’t discussing this with her—he was ordering her.

"Accept her wholeheartedly?" She sneered. "Then can you wholeheartedly accept Catherine?"

Hearing her bring up that name again, Quentin Grant’s tone became unnaturally cold. "The Catherine Callahan of today is nothing like the person she used to be. A woman with such a foul heart... I don’t even want to look at her, let alone accept her. Mom, I don’t want to hear about this again. Don’t bring it up anymore."

Seeing that the two were about to get heated again, Jean Grant immediately tried to smooth things over. "Can you two stop arguing back and forth? I’ve been reborn today! For my sake, can you just give it a rest for a while?"

Mrs. Grant glanced at her. "No matter how I tried to persuade you back then, you wouldn’t listen. Now you regret it, don’t you? Your brother is just like you were. He won’t listen to anything now, but one day, he’ll regret it too!"

"Alright, Mom, should our family issue a statement about my divorce?"

Mrs. Grant huffed, "Of course we should. And we need to announce that Marlon Marshall cheated, so people don’t think it was your fault."

Jean Grant agreed. "I still have the video of him and Carol Young sleeping together. Should we release that too?"

Mrs. Grant nodded. "Good."

After a moment of silence, Jean Grant suddenly said, "Mom, I’m with Ethan Ellsworth now."

Mrs. Grant didn’t process it at first. "What?"

Jean Grant said, a little shyly, "I said, I’m with Ethan Ellsworth."

"Really?" A smile immediately appeared on Mrs. Grant’s face. "That’s wonderful news! I’ve always trusted that boy, Ellsworth."

Jean Grant told her the truth. "He’s liked me since he was a teenager. All this time."

Mrs. Grant could hardly believe it. "So you’re saying... it’s been over a decade? Then why didn’t he say anything? Just a few days ago, I heard his mother excitedly boasting to me that Ellsworth was getting married. She said she had to keep his fiancée’s identity a secret from me. It looks like she was talking about you!"

"A few days ago?" A smile spread across Jean Grant’s lips. "Does that mean Ellsworth told his mom a few days ago that he was going to marry me?"

Mrs. Grant nodded. "Goes without saying. It seems I need to give Ellsworth’s mom a call to confirm."

Jean Grant was getting impatient. "Mom, why don’t you just call her now?"

Mrs. Grant took out her phone. "Alright, I’ll call her right now."

She quickly found Mrs. Ellsworth’s number and dialed. When the call connected, Mrs. Grant asked cheerfully, "Hey, Mrs. Ellsworth, what are you up to?"

Mrs. Ellsworth had been in a particularly good mood lately. "What else? The two kids are getting married soon. I’ve already picked out a date. I’m on my way to a beauty treatment right now."

Mrs. Grant chuckled and continued, "Come on, Mrs. Ellsworth, are you still trying to keep me in suspense? I only just found out about Ellsworth and our Jean being together. How long have you been hiding this?"

Jean Grant whispered, "Mom, we only just got together. It hasn’t been long at all."

At this, Mrs. Ellsworth on the other end of the line was dumbfounded. "Ellsworth and Jean are together? I say, Jean’s Mom, it’s not April Fools’ Day. Are you pulling my leg?"

Mrs. Grant’s expression stiffened. "So when you mentioned the two kids getting married, you weren’t talking about your Ellsworth and our Jean?"

Mrs. Ellsworth was speechless. "Honestly, you have quite an imagination. How could it possibly be Jean? Jean is married and several months pregnant. I haven’t seen you in a few days, Jean’s Mom, have you lost your mind? I was talking about our Chloe and Ellsworth, of course."

Mrs. Grant’s entire face turned pale.

She gave an awkward laugh. "That can’t be right. Jean just divorced Marlon Marshall today. She had an abortion a long time ago. She’s dating your Ellsworth now. If you don’t believe me, ask your son if it’s true."
