Mr. Grant was furious. "What is this nonsense! What do you mean, ’my illegitimate daughter’!"

"Then why don’t you explain to us just who this person is, and how she’s so capable!"

Master Grant stood up. "That’s enough, Third Aunt Grant. I’m well aware of this matter. Stop spouting nonsense."

Third Aunt Grant pursed her lips, exchanged a look with Second Aunt Grant, and said no more.

After the meeting, Mrs. Grant was rather depressed. She went to Catherine Callahan’s room, and when she found it empty, she sat down to wait for her.

Quentin Grant led Nora Ainsworth out of the Grant Residence. Ethan Ellsworth and Chloe Marshall followed them in their car to a high-end residential complex.

Nora Ainsworth got out of the car but didn’t walk toward Quentin Grant’s villa. Instead, she headed across the street.

"Come back!"

Nora Ainsworth just kept walking straight ahead and quickly went upstairs.

She opened the door and found a fresh set of clothes.

The bathroom was a bit cold, but she turned on the faucet anyway. Soon, the room was filled with steam.

She stripped off her blood-stained clothes, got into the bathtub, and scrubbed herself vigorously.

After she had washed up and put on clean clothes, Nora Ainsworth finally came to her senses, holding the dress stained with Charlotte Young’s blood.

She went downstairs.

Quentin Grant was standing there, watching her.

"I know you must know how she died. This wasn’t a simple elevator death," she said.

Quentin Grant nodded. "Get in the car."

With that, he looked toward the Lamborghini behind them. "Young Master Ellsworth, come over here."

Soon, the four of them were sitting in Quentin Grant’s car. The silence in the cramped space was finally broken.

"I got in the elevator, and she followed me in," Nora Ainsworth said slowly. "Right after we got in, the elevator started acting abnormally. She pulled out a silenced pistol to kill me. As she was about to shoot, the elevator stopped on the second floor and the doors opened, so she couldn’t kill me. Charlotte Young put the gun away. She blocked a woman who was about to get in, saying she needed to get out first. The moment she stepped out with one foot, the elevator doors clamped down on her."

When she finished, seeing that the other three were silent, Nora Ainsworth said boldly, "This was premeditated. The person behind the scenes wanted to kill two birds with one stone—to kill me and to kill Charlotte Young. They’re just reaping the rewards. Whether you believe me or not, that’s my gut feeling and my best guess."

Chloe Marshall’s expression tightened, and she grabbed Nora Ainsworth’s hand. "Thank God you’re okay, Nora. You scared me to death."

Ethan Ellsworth nodded. "Nora’s right. It’s obvious who’s behind this."

Quentin Grant had already guessed it too. "Even if we know who it is, we can’t make a move against her for now."

Nora Ainsworth opened the door to get out, but he grabbed her. "I’m not finished talking."

"Then keep talking."

He chuckled. "Showing off for me again, are you? Such a hothead."

"I have my reasons for saying we can’t move against her yet. In a little while, my godparents are coming back from abroad. We’ll decide what to do then."

Nora Ainsworth mused, "It’s a bit tragic. Charlotte Young probably never thought she’d end her own young life this way. She was still so young, she hadn’t even graduated from her arts school."

"She was about to kill you, and you’re feeling sorry for her."

Nora Ainsworth nodded. "Every hateful person has a tragic story."

Ethan Ellsworth leaned back in his seat and sighed dramatically. "Sigh... This planet is a lost cause. We should pack our bags and head back to Mars. At least it’s safer there. This place is just non-stop danger."

Chloe Marshall agreed. "Boss Ellsworth, I feel like I’m in danger everywhere too."

He glanced at her. "Stick close to me. I’d like to see who’s blind enough to touch you."

Chloe Marshall smiled, revealing two dimples. "Our Boss Ellsworth is just so cool."

"Alright, it’s getting late. Let’s go back." Ethan Ellsworth opened his car door and got out. Chloe Marshall followed close behind. Nora Ainsworth was about to get out too, intending to go back in Ethan’s car, but he blocked her.

"What are you doing?"

He said in a low voice, "Tomorrow night, I’ll send someone to pick you up."

Nora Ainsworth froze for a moment, then murmured an "Mm," and got out of the car.

Quentin Grant watched her go, a small smile playing on his lips.

Nora Ainsworth walked over to the Lamborghini and said, "Ethan, give Zeke a call. Where did he run off to? Tell him to go somewhere and wait for us."

Ethan Ellsworth said to Chloe Marshall, "You call him."

"Okay."

As soon as Nora Ainsworth got in the car, Ethan Ellsworth turned around and said meaningfully, "Tonight was fucking exciting. What did Young Master Grant say to you just now?"

"He didn’t say anything."

"Really?"

Nora Ainsworth smacked him on the head. "Why are you such a gossip? Drive!"

"Violent woman." Ethan Ellsworth rubbed his head, turned back around, and turned the key. The headlights flashed on, illuminating Jean Grant walking toward them, her pregnant belly on full display.

Chloe Marshall, who had just hung up the phone, saw her too.

Glancing at Ethan Ellsworth, she said in a low voice, "Boss Ellsworth, you two haven’t seen each other in so long. You should get out and talk."

"No need." Ethan Ellsworth didn’t move. He shifted into gear, his hands on the steering wheel, ready to turn the car around.

But Jean Grant had already seen him. "Ethan Ellsworth!"

Ethan Ellsworth had no choice but to turn off the engine. He watched her approach and rolled down the window.

"Where are you all going?"

"Back home. It’s late, why are you out?" His voice was tinged with indifference.

"I heard there was trouble at the old residence, so I came to ask my brother what happened." Jean Grant was much heavier than before.

"Where’s Marlon Marshall?"

"He’s not back yet."

The conversation between them died there. Ethan Ellsworth didn’t know what else to say.

After a few seconds of silence, Ethan Ellsworth said, "We’re heading back now. Your brother just went inside, you should go find him."

Jean Grant looked a little disappointed. "Alright then. Drive safe."

Ethan Ellsworth grunted an "Mm," rolled up the window, and restarted the engine. The car quickly drove out of Jean Grant’s sight.

Jean Grant turned around. She suddenly realized that in the two or three months since they had last met, Ethan Ellsworth seemed to have changed. He had never spoken to her so distantly before. Now, it was as if they had nothing left to say to each other.

Reaching this conclusion, her heart clenched. When she looked back again, his car had vanished without a trace.

Looking down at her swollen belly, a shocking thought suddenly popped into Jean Grant’s head. ’If this child were gone, then could she and he be together? Would they—’

A shiver ran down her spine. Jean Grant felt like she was possessed. She quickened her pace and pressed the doorbell to Quentin Grant’s gate.

The gatekeeper opened the gate, and she walked in.

"Brother."

Quentin Grant turned his head. "Why are you here at this hour?"

"Brother, I heard Charlotte Young is dead?"

"Mm, she’s dead." Quentin Grant’s attitude surprised Jean Grant.

"She was your fiancée, after all. Why the attitude?"

"This is my attitude toward any woman I don’t love." He didn’t shy away from saying it. "If you don’t court death, you won’t die. This is the fate of simple-minded women."
