Chapter 549: The Third Mistake

(Author’s POV)

"Amelia Clinton is the perfect target. And I, Denver Brooks, will personally see the end of this," Denver’s voice was filled with finality.

Everyone else in the room- the vampires, the werewolves, the bears were thrilled to hear his words. A girl~ ... this nonpareil~ ... they were bound to succeed.

Garry gritted his teeth. Yes, he had been a part of their wrongdoing. Yes, he wasn’t a clean man at all, never had been. Yes, he was ready to dirty his hands anytime. Yet~ .... involving a child, a literal child, that was a clear no-no for him. She was even younger than his sons. He clutched his hands so tight that his knuckles turned white. That day, he resolved to see to it that Amelia Clinton was not harmed by these vicious beasts.

But before he could take any action, Denver had already made his move. He had changed not just his identity but his entire self, including his face, using an illusion potion to transfigure his face. With his connections, he easily got admitted to the same school as Amelia’s.

Vienna, who was ready to do anything to be with him, fed him information about Amelia’s likes and dislikes. She helped him woo her sister.

Honestly, Vienna Clinton, that vile girl, was much more cruel than those outsiders. Those people were vultures, but she~ ... she was a cuckoo, good at deception.

For a guy, she had decided to throw her own blood sister into the abyss. And the worst part, she wasn’t even ashamed of it. Instead, she relished her downfall. She never liked that goody-to-shoes sister of hers, who had all the attention from her parents and brother ever since the day she was born. On top of that, she was smart, got good grades, a clean record and a god gifted beauty. She had not a single flaw. It was as if she was always treading the silk road, bound for greatness.

And~ ... that’s what Vienna hated. She loathed her from the depths of her heart for getting everything in life so easily. So, she wanted to ruin her reputation, her mind, her soul and eventually her life.

On one instance, when she went to a karaoke house with Denver to give him intel on Amelia’s friends, she heard him talking on the phone in the washroom~ ... the other person was not speaking, but literally barking at him. Their voice was so loud that it even reached Vienna, "Halo Wareham~ .... It has been so many years. You are still not done with your tantrums. Until when will this go on: you trying to seek your fantasy of learning magic."

Denver clenched his jaw as he snapped back, "I am Denver Brooks now. The Wareham young master~ .... is dead long ago. Whatever I do in my life has got nothing, absolutely nothing to do with any of you. So, stop fucking contacting me. I don’t want even a single one of you in my life. GOT IT."

When the call disconnected, he sensed Vienna watching him. After spending quite a bit of time with him, she knew how to pacify his mood. Though he kept it well hidden, Denver was a sucker for sweet talk. He liked it when someone worshipped him like a god; it filled his vanity. So, when Vienna said, "Can I call you Halo~ ... when it’s just the two of us? It sounds majestic, it suits you better." He readily agreed.

Garry, who had been following them closely, was in one of the stalls. He heard the conversation as well. From there on, he started looking for all the people with the Wareham family name.

Time passed by in a flash, yet he got no clue, nor was he ever able to approach Amelia because of Denver and Vienna’s constant monitoring.

The thirteenth moon night and Amelia’s birthday were fast approaching. Garry had thought his plan through. He needed to make sure that Amelia didn’t get to Denver’s house at any cost.

But two days before that, he had flown to Damona because of a family emergency (in the meantime, he shifted his family from Sosraville to Damona). After resolving everything, while he was returning the next day, all the flights were cancelled due to violent thunderstorms. But the storm in his heart was much bigger than the one outside. He was brimming with anxiety to go back and save that girl’s life.

He ordered his assistant to make a four-hour drive and take him to another city so that he could catch the plane from there. He was running against time.

But as if destiny was playing a game with him, the ticket he got wasn’t for a direct flight but with a double layover. The seven hour journey would take eighteen hours to reach his destination, meaning he would arrive around evening. Still, he took the chance and boarded the plane, hopeful.

The sun had already closed its doors for the day, and the night sky was illuminating brilliantly. The jetlagged Garry didn’t waste a single second or his breath and made his way towards Denver’s place.

The men who were keeping an eye on Denver had informed Garry that after spending the day in an aquarium, Denver was now on his way to his residence, with Amelia by his side. It was a normal looking mansion on the outskirts, in a secluded place, but inside the basement of that house, the ritual altar was set up by them. They had carefully chosen the place for this very purpose.

Garry rushed alone. He rashly drove the whole way, trying to reach Denver’s place as quickly as possible, not even thinking of his life and safety.

He just arrived in the nick of time and, without thinking, made his way towards the basement. A few paces inside, he saw Vienna, her eyes red rimmed. She was crying. He thought she was finally feeling guilty of her actions and said, "Vienna~ ... your sister is in danger. Let’s save her together." And trusting Vienna~ .... was the third and biggest mistake of them all.
