Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 35: She’s a Scumbag, Deliberately Teasing Him
Charles Prescott stood outside, the scene he had just witnessed replaying in his mind.
He had thought he’d already taken care of the Anne Sutton situation, that she would never be able to see Nathan Fawcett again. But now...
’How long has it been? How are they already back together?’
Nathan Fawcett had never been interested in women before. It was one thing for Anne Sutton, his own fiancée, to have successfully seduced Nathan. But now... even after Nathan had been so angered he ended up in the hospital, she had managed to get back to his side this quickly. Why?
A string of questions left Charles Prescott feeling deeply resentful.
It wasn’t until he heard Nathan Fawcett’s voice from inside that he and the butler entered the room.
Anne Sutton was sitting to the side, continuing to feed Nathan Fawcett.
She looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "How does it taste?"
"Delicious." Nathan also found it incredible, even suspecting that Anne had cast some kind of spell on the food. How could it be so good?
Charles Prescott stood nearby. He had heard that Nathan’s appetite was poor today and that he hadn’t eaten anything, which made him think Nathan was on his last legs.
But now that he was here, he saw Nathan eating with surprising gusto!
And then there was Anne Sutton...
’Has she no shame?’
To curry favor with Nathan Fawcett, she was actually feeding him by hand.
The scene before him looked incredibly sweet. He recalled how, in all the years she had been with him, she had always treated him like a stranger, always speaking to him with polite formality.
’Did she ever even think of me as her fiancé back then?’
The thought that he had never received such treatment during their years together left a bitter taste in Charles Prescott’s mouth.
After all, men were competitive creatures!
Standing to the side, Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Why are you here bothering Uncle again?"
Not to be outdone, Anne Sutton retorted, "And what business is it of yours? Your uncle hasn’t said a thing, so why can’t I be here?"
Charles shot her a look, wanting to say more, but he didn’t want to argue in front of Nathan Fawcett. He knew it wouldn’t do him any good.
Instead, he turned to Nathan Fawcett and asked, "How are you feeling, Uncle?"
"Not dead yet," Nathan said indifferently.
Charles looked at him and said, "It seems with Ms. Sutton here, there’s nothing for me to do."
Nathan Fawcett, busy eating the food Anne Sutton had made, ignored him.
He knew Charles Prescott didn’t want him to have a child.
But as it stood, he had no heir, and Charles was the designated heir of the Fawcett Family.
As a man who was practically dying, he didn’t want to fight with Charles over these things.
They were all smart people. Some things were better left unsaid; it did no one any good to voice them.
Charles said, "Well, I’ll be heading back then. Take care of yourself, Uncle."
Nathan grunted in acknowledgment.
Soon, Charles Prescott walked out.
Just the sight of Anne Sutton made his skin crawl. He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he wouldn’t be able to control himself.
Seeing Charles walk out, Anne Sutton turned to Nathan Fawcett and said, "He seemed pretty upset."
Nathan said, "Watching his fiancée with me, I imagine he would be."
Anne Sutton laughed. "I’m not his fiancée anymore. Don’t you go making false accusations."
Nathan Fawcett gazed at the woman before him. "After knowing him for so many years, you don’t have any feelings for him at all?"
"Who would have feelings for a scumbag?" Anne Sutton countered. "Would you?"
Nathan looked at her, his eyes deep and unreadable.
He had to admit, he had a unique taste in women. There were so many cute, innocent, and pure women out there, yet he was drawn to Anne Sutton, with her calculating nature and her determination to get even with anyone who wronged her.
Charles Prescott returned to the Fawcett family estate. Chairman Fawcett, who had been worrying about company matters recently, saw Charles walk in and asked, "How is Nathan?"
Charles said, "He’s doing well."
Chairman Fawcett said, "Do you know any nice girls? He must be bored all alone in the hospital. You should find a girl to go keep him company. It would be a good chance for them to get to know each other."
This was exactly what Charles had been waiting to hear.
He nodded. "Alright."
After helping Nathan Fawcett finish his meal, Anne Sutton said to him, "You should get some sleep. I’m going to work. I’ll come see you later."
Nathan was in the hospital to recuperate, after all. Her being there constantly could be disruptive.
Hearing her words, Nathan said, "Hurry up and go, then. I’m tired, too."
With that, he lay down.
Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "I’m leaving, then. If you miss me, send me a message."
Nathan’s cool eyes snapped open, and he stared at her. "I’ll miss you?"
’Who in their right mind would miss *him*!’
"...You won’t?" Anne Sutton walked out with a look of disappointment.
Because of that expression of hers, Nathan Fawcett lay in bed, unable to fall asleep.
He thought, ’She’s such a player!’
’She’s clearly just using me, but she still has to flirt with me on purpose!’
After leaving Nathan Fawcett’s room, Anne Sutton received a call from Mrs. Sutton, who said she was about to check Sharon Sutton out of the hospital. Anne went over to take a look.
Sharon Sutton’s condition wasn’t serious. She had slit her wrists the other day, but she had been successfully treated.
The doctor said she could go home now.
Mrs. Sutton was packing things up. She said to Sharon, "Wait for your sister!"
Sharon Sutton looked worried. "Is Sister never going to talk to me again? She must be angry. She didn’t even come by today."
"No, she won’t do that," Mrs. Sutton said. "She used to dote on you the most, and you didn’t mean to do what you did. But you must never do something like that again!"
Although Mrs. Sutton had also tried to persuade Anne Sutton not to have Nathan Fawcett’s child, she believed it should ultimately be Anne’s own choice.
Something like mixing birth control pills into the medicine she was taking was, to some extent, against Anne Sutton’s will, and Mrs. Sutton felt that it was wrong.
Sharon Sutton said, "I wasn’t thinking straight at the time."
She didn’t know how she could have done something to let her sister down just for the sake of David Hayes’s future.
Mrs. Sutton said, "When she gets here, you need to give her a proper apology."
Soon, Anne Sutton walked in. Mr. Sutton was at work, handling company business.
For him, when were his daughters ever as important as his company?
Seeing Anne Sutton, Mrs. Sutton said, "You’re here."
Anne Sutton’s gaze fell upon Sharon Sutton, who lowered her head in shame under her stare.
Mrs. Sutton said, "I already had a talk with her last night. She’s reflected on what she did. Anne, are you okay?"
When Anne Sutton had come by yesterday, she had been furious. Mrs. Sutton was a little worried, feeling that something must have happened to make Anne act that way.
Anne Sutton said, "It’s nothing."
"Did something happen between you and Nathan Fawcett?" Mrs. Sutton asked. "I heard from your father that there were some issues at the company today, apparently caused by something related to Nathan Fawcett."
"Nothing’s wrong between us." Anne Sutton looked at her mother. "What? Did something happen to the company?"
Just last night, Charles Prescott had threatened her, telling her to go home and think carefully about the company’s situation.
’He couldn’t have been so impatient as to already make a move against the company, could he?’
