Chapter 131: Chapter 131: An Ambush

"Father usually brings the ox cart when he is leaving home for a longer time, like days to weeks." Sun Tiezhu explained, a little nervous.

His hands clenched by his sides. Although he felt rather guilty, as if he was plotting against his own father, his reason still prevailed.

Especially when he remembered what Sun Daniu had done.

His mother also admitted she was the one dragging Sun Daniu to the deep part of the river...

If Sun Daniu wasn’t punished, his mother might stay as an earthbound ghost and couldn’t reincarnate. It was either she would turn into resentful spirit in order to exact revenge or having her soul dissipating little by little.

"His ox cart is still at the house. Officers, please wait for a while." The young teenager muttered, trying his best to act as the host in his home.

The yamen officials nodded, and one of them patted Sun Tiezhu’s shoulder. They were already familiar with him. After all, they had questioned the young teenager on several occasions before.

Now, after hearing about what his father had done, they all felt pity for him.

Sun Tiezhu already brought his younger siblings home and locked them in one room, worried they might get hurt in the chaos.

Not long after Sun Tiezhu said his words, they all heard the sound of the door creaking. Sun Daniu was standing on the door.

One yamen official was ready to capture him, standing at the door. Alas, Sun Daniu seemed to know about his presence and withdrew himself, taking a few steps back in a hurry.

"Officers, what’s the meaning of this?" Sun Daniu asked in a hardened tone. "Haven’t we proven that I am innocent?"

He was already annoyed by the yamen officials’ constant presence, but that person merely told him he should lie low for a while until the commotion subsided.

After that, they would start an operation in a far away village at the outskirts of the county soon.

"We haven’t proven your innocence." The yamen official tried to grab Sun Daniu again.

Alas, his reflex was surprisingly good and he avoided the attack.

All of a sudden, Sun Daniu turned his gaze to the opened door and cursed, "Bunch of unfilial children. You better watch out. I will deal with you all soon!"

Once he said these threatening words, he turned around and ran. A few masked people appeared, entangling with the yamen runners, Xiao Jingran, and Han Tingxun.

It was already night, and with so many people trying to buy time for Sun Daniu, the yamen runners could only watch helplessly as their target ran away.

Not long after, they finished dealing with the masked people. Alas, Sun Daniu already ran too far away.

A dark look decorated Han Tingxun’s face. He ordered the two yamen runners, "Drag all of them. We will interrogate each of them tomorrow." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

They hadn’t expected this Sun Daniu to be so vigilant. It was as if he had already known they had laid an ambush at his home and made preparations in advance.

Han Tingxun traced the ring on his finger.

Did someone tipped him off, meaning there was a spy on their side? The medicine boy who had come to deliver the news didn’t directly state about Sun Daniu’s case, but he asked for one of the two yamen officials handling the case to lessen any suspicion.

"Mr. Han..." The two yamen runners went to Han Tingxun’s side after they were done tying the masked man.

Some of them were already dead.

Xiao Jingran dragged one conscious man toward them, forcing open the man’s mouth and taking out a poison sack from under his tongue.

The dead masked men were either killed by them or because of suicide using the poison. These people were obviously trained assassins.

Since Sun Daniu even had the channel and capital to hire them, it seemed that he had a considerable influence in the human trafficking ring.

"Who hired you?" Han Tingxun grabbed the man’s finger and broke it. The assassin let out a pained howl and hissed at him, his expression wooden as if he didn’t care in case they kill him.

Xiao Jingran had used a medicine on some of them, forcing them to pass out even before they could fight. As for the rest, he just dealt with them through sheer strength.

After he dropped the assassin to Han Tingxun’s side, he went to escort the frightened Sun Tiezhu to his younger siblings’ side.

He must have been frightened. The assassins actually also targeted him. Someone as young as him was vulnerable, and fortunately, Xiao Jingran was around. He only suffered from some scratches on his skin.

Sun Tiezhu was visibly shaking, especially when he recalled the last look Sun Daniu had given him. In the dim light from the moonlight above, the ferocious look on Sun Daniu’s eyes seemed to be more terrifying.

"I’ll help you find your siblings," Xiao Jingran said. "I, Mr. Han, and others still needed to talk about something."

The next scene was unsuitable for Sun Tiezhu since Han Tingxun would interrogate the only conscious man with ruthless methods.

After the interrogation was over, he also would bring them back to the Xiao family’s house later. After all, it was safer compared to their house.

Sun Tiezhu bit his lip and nodded. Once Xiao Jingran closed the door, he huddled with his younger siblings.

In the living room, Han Tingxun continued to interrogate the first man Xiao Jingran had forced to be awake.

"Who hired you?" Han Tingxun repeated again, his tone was calm, but his action was far from it. He proceeded to break the fifth finger on the assassin’s hand.

The man passed out without answering their questions, but Xiao Jingran used his medicine to force the assassin to be awake again.

Han Tingxun looked at him with a meaningful glance. Meanwhile, the assassin was going crazy. Why can’t they just get rid of him directly by killing him?!

In the end, they finally could extract one important piece of information from the assassin.
