I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 341 - 264: Ambush from the Shadows
Just as the two were about to continue their escape from the woods, a figure blocked their path.
"OINK..."
The black Wild Boar Beast looked at the two tender-looking humans before it and grunted triumphantly. Its mouth gaped open, and saliva dripped onto the grass with a steady DRIP, DRIP, DRIP.
Originally, there were no Mutant Beasts in the woods bordering this road. But as luck would have it, a few days ago, a torrential downpour had struck the northern mountains of Qiong City.
The storm triggered a flash flood, which washed this unlucky black Wild Boar Beast into a river.
The black Wild Boar Beast had thought it was going to drown, thrashing in its final death throes. Unexpectedly, it managed to survive.
However, it could no longer return to its original habitat, as the river currents had carried it all the way to Qiong City’s southeastern region.
In the days that followed, the black Wild Boar Beast stumbled about until it accidentally found its way to these woods in the southern part of Qiong City, where it then settled down.
Today was its second day of living here. Driven by hunger, the black Wild Boar Beast had come out searching for food and stumbled upon two pale, tender morsels of prey, much to its delight.
It hadn’t had a proper meal since leaving its old home. Today, it could finally eat its fill.
"What do we do? Look at this Wild Boar! It’s going to eat us!"
The girl watched the drooling Wild Boar blocking their path, so terrified she nearly collapsed to the ground.
If her boyfriend hadn’t been gripping her hand tightly, giving her courage, she might have burst into tears before her legs gave out.
"I..." The young man, who had just mustered the courage to flee with his girlfriend, was now at a complete loss.
"I’m sorry, this is all my fault. If I hadn’t needed to use the bathroom, we wouldn’t have run into this Wild Boar." The girl finally succumbed to her fear and began to cry, apologizing to her boyfriend between sobs.
"Don’t cry, I don’t blame you..." Though just as panicked himself, the young man pulled his weeping, self-reproaching girlfriend into his arms and patted her back comfortingly.
"OINK..." The ravenous black Wild Boar Beast heard the girl’s crying and grew agitated, letting out a displeased grunt.
However, its grunt did nothing to stop the girl, whose mind was consumed by terror. Instead, her cries only grew louder.
Of course, it didn’t matter. Soon enough, it would devour these two prey, and the annoying crying would stop for good... 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"OINK..." The black Wild Boar Beast let out a roar, then broke into a charge toward the young man and woman huddled together. It planned to use its sharp tusks to gore a few holes in its prey first.
Knowing escape was impossible, the young couple clung to each other tightly, watching in despair as the black Wild Boar charged at them.
The triumphant eyes of the black Wild Boar Beast met the desperate gaze of the young couple. The outcome seemed sealed.
But just as the pair was about to die on the tusks of the black Wild Boar Beast, a piercing sound tore through the dim forest.
SWISH.
A razor-sharp, crescent-shaped Cyan Wind Blade shot out from a dark corner of the woods, whistling through the air.
SCHLICK.
The sound of a sharp blade slicing through flesh echoed in the dim forest.
"SQUEAL!"
A wretched squeal, many times louder than the girl’s crying, exploded through the dim forest.
Despite the thick woods, the agonizing squeal was so loud that most of the passengers in the vehicles stuck in traffic on the road outside heard it clearly.
"Where’s that pig-slaughtering sound coming from?"
"Slaughtering a pig? Take a look around. Who would be slaughtering a pig out here?"
"But it definitely sounds like a pig! And such a horrible squeal, too. I saw them slaughter pigs back in my hometown. That’s the exact sound they make right before they die."
In the cars on the highway, people rolled down their windows, looking toward the source of the pig-like squeal.
Su Yue, who was scrolling through short videos on her phone, also heard the agonizing squeal. She looked up toward the sound, her pretty, slender brows furrowing slightly as she muttered to herself.
’That’s the direction Lin Li went to use the bathroom... He didn’t run into a wild boar, did he?’
The thought that Lin Li might have encountered a wild boar in the woods and met with some misfortune instantly filled Su Yue with worry.
She put her phone away, opened the car door, and got out, briskly walking toward the dim woods where the terrible squeal had come from.
A driver saw Su Yue walk past, heading for the woods, and immediately called out a warning.
"Miss, there’s probably a wild boar in those woods! It’s dangerous to go in there now..."
Worried that Lin Li was in trouble, Su Yue was in no mood to listen to anyone’s advice.
The passerby’s warning only made her quicken her pace toward the dim forest in the distance.
...
"What happened?!"
The young man and woman, who had been clinging to each other awaiting death, stared dumbfounded at the black Wild Boar Beast. A large gash had appeared on its neck, and blood was gushing out.
"SQUEAL..." Badly injured by the razor-sharp Cyan Wind Blade, the black Wild Boar Beast let out a pained cry as it looked toward the direction the blade had come from.
This was the first time it had ever been so grievously wounded. Although it had appeared ferocious and unstoppable when it was about to devour the young couple, when faced with an enemy it couldn’t defeat, it was smart enough to make the right decision.
The searing pain in its neck was a constant reminder that its attacker was terrifying, far beyond what it could handle. It had to escape. Now.
The black Wild Boar Beast, all bark and no bite, let out another squeal toward the direction the Cyan Wind Blade had come from before turning to flee.
Unfortunately, its ambusher had no intention of giving it that chance.
SWISH, SWISH, SWISH...
A series of five Cyan Wind Blades, each twice the size of the first, shot out from the darkness, hurtling toward the black Wild Boar Beast as it tried to turn and run.
As a mere First Rank Middle Stage creature, the black Wild Boar Beast couldn’t have dodged these Cyan Wind Blades even when uninjured. In its current wounded state, it was utterly impossible.
SCHLICK.
SCHLICK.
SCHLICK...
The five massive, razor-sharp Cyan Wind Blades struck the black Wild Boar Beast one after another, all landing in the exact same spot: the initial wound on its neck.
After the five Cyan Wind Blades struck, the once-arrogant black Wild Boar Beast crashed to the ground. Its head was now almost completely severed from its thick body.
"It—it’s dead...!!!"
The couple, still holding each other tightly, stared blankly at the dead Wild Boar Beast, its body twitching reflexively. They muttered in disbelief.
WHOOSH...
RUSTLE, RUSTLE, RUSTLE...
A sudden gust of wind swept through, making the forest sway and rustle.
The sound snapped the dazed couple back to their senses, and they immediately scrambled to escape the dim woods.
They had been certain they would die in the jaws of the black Wild Boar Beast, only for it to be killed by something unknown.
A chance to live was right in front of them again. To just stand there stupidly would be utterly foolish.
Not long after the young couple fled, a youthful figure emerged from the same dark spot where the Cyan Wind Blades had been launched.
