I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 227 - 207: Have You Heard a Saying? Failure Is the Mother of Success
He had been thinking that if this woman, Wang Ling, kept interrupting him like this, he would have to pull some strings and cause some trouble for her flower shop.
But now, after learning that Wang Ling’s sister was an Investigator for the Superpower Administration Bureau, the thought of pulling strings to cause trouble for the flower shop vanished from Zhang Xiaohao’s mind without a trace, as if it had never been there in the first place.
’Are you kidding me? Messing with her sister after finding out she’s an Investigator? That’s just asking to die.’
Still, Zhang Xiaohao felt a lingering fear. If he hadn’t come to the flower shop today, if he hadn’t met Wang Ling’s sister and learned she was an Investigator...
...and he had secretly caused trouble for Wang Ling and her shop, then Wang Ling’s sister, the Investigator named Wang Jing, would have definitely stepped in to investigate on her sister’s behalf.
Under an Investigator’s scrutiny, his secret scheming would surely be exposed. When that happened, facing legal charges would be unavoidable.
But what scared him even more was that if the truth came out, Su Yue would find out he had schemed against her good friend. She would surely cut him off for good.
The more he thought about it, the more terrified Zhang Xiaohao became. All he wanted was to leave the flower shop as quickly as possible and get away from Wang Jing.
This was probably why mice were afraid of cats. After all, if you hadn’t done anything wrong, what respectable person would be afraid of an Investigator?
Su Yue, who was chatting with the sisters Wang Jing and Wang Ling, glanced at Zhang Xiaohao standing silently to the side.
She suddenly noticed his face had grown pale, with fine beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Thinking something might be wrong with him, she asked with concern.
"Zhang Xiaohao, what’s wrong?"
"Huh?" Snapping back to reality when he heard Su Yue call his name, Zhang Xiaohao quickly shook his head, his lips twitching into a semblance of a smile. "It’s nothing serious. I just feel a little under the weather. I probably set the AC too low last night and caught a cold."
"You caught a cold! You should hurry home, take some medicine, and get some rest!" Su Yue said.
"Okay, I’ll head back now." Zhang Xiaohao couldn’t wait to get out of the flower shop and away from Wang Jing. Hearing Su Yue tell him to go home and rest, he nodded eagerly and turned to leave.
"What’s with him?" Wang Jing frowned as she watched Zhang Xiaohao’s somewhat panicked departure from the flower shop.
His reaction was quite similar to the guilty criminals she usually encountered.
"Sis, he’s one of Su Yue’s suitors. You have no idea, he’s so persistent it’s annoying. Su Yue has rejected him so many times, but he just won’t give up."
Wang Ling followed her sister’s gaze out the glass window. She saw Zhang Xiaohao hastily leaving the shop and striding quickly toward his luxury sports car parked by the curb. He got in and immediately sped off.
"Oh." Hearing her sister say that Zhang Xiaohao was Su Yue’s suitor, Wang Jing nodded and didn’t give it any more thought, though she did sigh to herself.
’As expected of Su Yue. Whether it was back in school or now that she’s working, she’s always had a never-ending stream of suitors.’
"Sis, just a moment. I’m almost done with the accounts," Wang Ling said.
"Jing, have a seat. I’ll get you a glass of water," Su Yue said, gesturing for Wang Jing to sit. She then went to the water cooler, grabbed a disposable cup, and filled it with warm water for her.
Wang Jing sat down in a chair and looked around her sister’s flower shop. She smiled and said, "At first, I thought you opened this shop on a whim and that it would go out of business in no time.
But looking at how business is doing, it seems like the chances of this shop surviving are pretty high!"
"Sis, what are you talking about? What do you mean the chances of my shop ’surviving’ are pretty high? You’re looking down on me too much!"
Wang Ling, who was still doing the accounts, looked up at her sister’s words and shot her a glare.
"Jing, drink some water." Su Yue walked over and handed the disposable cup to Wang Jing.
"Thanks." Wang Jing took the cup from Su Yue, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and took a sip of water before smiling at her sister.
"I’m not just saying that for no reason. How many shops did you open before this one? Which one of them didn’t go out of business almost immediately?"
Su Yue sat down in the chair next to Wang Jing. Hearing her talk about Wang Ling’s previous businesses, she couldn’t help but purse her lips to hide a smile.
Su Yue knew all about her old classmate’s previously failed shops...
Before this flower shop, Wang Ling had opened a candy store, a toy store, and a jewelry shop. After opening, they all basically went out of business within a month or two. The timeline was unbelievably short.
Despite the successive failures, Wang Ling wasn’t discouraged. In fact, her resolve only grew stronger with each attempt.
Of course, it would be self-deception to say she wasn’t the least bit disappointed.
So, this time, to break the curse of her shops failing in one or two months, she decided to play her trump card.
This trump card was inviting her good friend Su Yue, who had always been very lucky, to come help out at her newly opened flower shop.
And what do you know, it worked just as Wang Ling had hoped. In the days since Su Yue started working part-time, business at the new flower shop got better and better each day. At this rate, it would be hard for the shop to fail even if it tried.
"Sis, haven’t you heard the saying?"
"What saying?"
"Failure is the mother of success."
Because the flower shop was currently doing so well, Wang Ling had the confidence to retort when her sister teased her.
"My previous shops failed because I was accumulating experience. It’s precisely because of those past failures that my flower shop is so stable this time."
Hearing her sister say this, Wang Jing didn’t argue further, just watched her with a warm smile.
Joking aside, as the older sister, Wang Jing naturally hoped her sister’s flower shop would last for a long time.
A short while later, everything in the flower shop was taken care of, and Su Yue and Wang Ling came out with Wang Jing.
The three of them stood by the roadside, chatting while they waited for an available taxi to pass by.
Although it was currently rush hour, the street the flower shop was on wasn’t in a bustling commercial district, so there wasn’t much traffic and no congestion.
BANG.
The sudden loud noise caught the attention of the three women waiting for a taxi by the road.
They turned to look in the direction of the sound and saw that on a distant street corner, a small truck had overturned. It had crashed into a utility pole, knocking it down.
"AHHH..." Pedestrians waiting at the crosswalk on either side of the corner screamed in terror at the sudden accident.
Then, the pedestrians quickly backed away from the overturned truck, which was now sparking and showing flames.
Seeing this, looks of panic appeared on Su Yue and Wang Ling’s pretty faces.
Since they weren’t too far from the crash site, they could clearly see the driver in the cab of the truck. His face was covered in blood, and he was motionless, showing no reaction.
They couldn’t tell if the injured driver had just passed out or if his injuries were so severe that he was already dead.
"Su Yue, Wang Ling, you two stay here and don’t move. I’m going to go help that driver," Wang Jing said to Su Yue and her sister, her expression calm.
