I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father
Chapter 345: Dancing
Babydoll glanced at Brandon as he sat opposite her on the plush gray couch.
He had barely moved in the past hour. One arm rested lazily against the backrest while the other held his phone, his thumb scrolling through something on the screen with slow, deliberate movements. His expression was neutral, almost bored, as if the world outside the loft apartment simply didn’t exist.
Babydoll sighed quietly.
She was bored.
They had spent the entire day inside the apartment doing absolutely nothing. No plans. No action. Just waiting.
Waiting was something Babydoll hated.
She stretched her legs across the coffee table and tilted her head, watching Brandon for another moment before suddenly speaking.
"Let’s go out."
Brandon’s scrolling stopped.
Slowly, he lifted his eyes toward her, one eyebrow rising in mild curiosity.
"Why would we do that?" he asked flatly, already looking back down at his phone. "Shouldn’t we be making plans for Saturday?"
Babydoll rolled her eyes dramatically.
Always has to be about your little girlfriend, huh?
The thought slipped through her mind with a mixture of irritation and amusement. Brandon’s obsession with Lyse had always been obvious, even when he tried to hide it.
But Babydoll knew something he didn’t.
Right now, Lyse was fighting for her life somewhere far away.
If fate was kind, and Babydoll suspected it might be Lyse would disappear from their lives entirely without Babydoll having to lift a single finger.
The thought made a mischievous smile curl across her lips.
She stood up suddenly.
Brandon didn’t notice until she stepped directly in front of him, blocking his view of the phone screen.
He looked up at her with a puzzled frown.
Before he could say anything, Babydoll grabbed his hand and yanked him to his feet.
"What is the meaning of this?" Brandon demanded, clearly annoyed.
Babydoll pouted dramatically.
"We are too young to be acting like retirees," she said with exaggerated disappointment. "I bet you haven’t gone dancing in ages. That’s why you’re so grouchy. You’re turning into an old bear."
Brandon stared at her in exasperation.
Then he pulled his hand free, sat back down on the couch, and returned his attention to his phone.
"We have more important things to focus on," he argued calmly. "Aren’t we supposed to be looking for that thug and the rat Luca?"
Babydoll shrugged carelessly.
"Let them find us."
She reached forward again, grabbing his arm and pulling him up a second time.
"Come on," she insisted, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Let’s feel alive tonight."
Brandon looked at her for a long moment.
His expression was unreadable, caught somewhere between irritation and reluctant amusement. Babydoll held her breath, half expecting him to refuse again.
Then he suddenly shrugged.
"Fine."
Babydoll blinked.
"...Yes?" she asked cautiously.
"Yes," Brandon confirmed with the faintest hint of a smile.
The reaction was immediate.
Babydoll let out an excited whoop and bounced slightly on her toes.
"Finally!"
Brandon shook his head with a small chuckle.
"But don’t make me regret this."
An hour later, a cab dropped them off in front of a nightclub blazing with neon lights.
Above the entrance, a glowing red sign flickered dramatically.
THE INFERNO
Even from outside, the bass-heavy music pulsed through the air like a heartbeat. The vibrations seemed to travel up through the pavement and into Brandon’s chest.
The entrance was crowded with people laughing, smoking, and talking loudly while waiting to get inside.
Babydoll looked perfectly at home.
Her eyes sparkled as she stepped out of the cab, taking in the flashing lights and electric energy surrounding the building.
"Now this," she said with satisfaction, "is more like it."
Inside, the club was chaos.
Lights flashed in rapid bursts of crimson, violet, and blue. Fog machines released thin clouds of smoke that curled around dancing bodies. The air smelled like perfume, alcohol, and sweat.
The dance floor moved like a living organism.
Bodies pressed together, swaying and jumping to the relentless rhythm blasting from the speakers.
The bass was so powerful it vibrated through Brandon’s ribs.
Babydoll slipped easily into the crowd, weaving through the moving bodies with graceful confidence. She reached back occasionally to grab Brandon’s wrist, guiding him through the sea of strangers.
Here, she looked completely different.
Alive.
Her hips moved naturally to the rhythm, her steps fluid and effortless. She looked like a predator navigating her natural habitat, a creature perfectly suited to the neon jungle.
Brandon followed behind her, slightly overwhelmed but curious.
Eventually, they reached a small table near the edge of the dance floor where the noise was slightly less deafening.
They sat down.
Almost instantly, a waiter appeared as if summoned by magic.
Babydoll didn’t hesitate.
"Two tequilas."
The waiter nodded and disappeared again.
Brandon leaned back in his chair, glancing around the club with mild interest.
"You know how to live," he admitted after a moment.
Babydoll grinned.
It was the most relaxed Brandon had looked since the chaos at the warehouse.
The noise, the darkness, and the anonymity of the crowd seemed to soothe something inside him.
"You only live once," Babydoll said with a wink.
The waiter returned with their drinks.
She lifted her glass high.
"To chaos."
Brandon raised his own glass.
"To chaos."
They downed the shots together.
The tequila burned pleasantly as it slid down Brandon’s throat, leaving a warm heat spreading through his chest.
The music shifted.
The rhythm deepened, becoming slower and more hypnotic.
Babydoll’s eyes lit up immediately.
She stood and grabbed Brandon’s hand.
"Dance with me."
Brandon hesitated.
Dancing had never been his world.
It was Lyse’s world.
Awkward shuffling, nervous laughter, and clumsy movements.
"Don’t think," Babydoll said firmly, pulling him toward the dance floor. "Just feel."
Before he could protest further, she dragged him into the swirling mass of bodies.
At first, Brandon felt stiff and uncomfortable.
But the beat was relentless.
And Babydoll moved against him with a natural confidence that made resistance feel pointless.
Slowly, he relaxed.
He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the music wash over him. The flashing lights painted colors against the backs of his eyelids.
For a brief moment, he wasn’t thinking about revenge.
Or Lyse.
Or the chaos surrounding their lives.
He was simply another body in the darkness, moving to the rhythm.
When he opened his eyes again, Babydoll was watching him.
Her face was close to his, illuminated by the shifting lights.
There was something strange in her expression.
Something unreadable.
In the flashes of neon, she looked almost mythical.
Beautiful.
Dangerous.
The realization struck him unexpectedly.
He felt a sudden pull toward her.
Strong.
Immediate.
Before he could stop himself, he stepped closer.
His hands settled on her waist.
The distance between them disappeared.
Babydoll’s breath brushed against his neck. Her scent wrapped around him, expensive perfume mixed with something wild and untamed.
For a moment, the image of Lyse flickered through his mind.
But it faded quickly.
Replaced by the very real presence of the woman in his arms.
Brandon leaned closer, his lips brushing near Babydoll’s ear.
"You were right," he murmured.
His voice was barely audible over the pounding music.
"I needed this."
Babydoll leaned back slightly so she could look at him.
A slow smile spread across her face.
This one was different from her usual teasing grins.
It was real.
And it softened the sharp edges of her usual expression.
"See?" she said softly, her voice a low purr.
"I’m full of good ideas."
For a moment, the world outside the club disappeared.
The revenge.
The danger.
The past.
None of it seemed to matter.
There was only the music.
The heat of the dance floor.
The press of bodies moving together in rhythm.
And between them, a strange new connection sparked to life. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
In the swirling chaos of the club, Brandon felt something unexpected.
Something thrilling.
Something terrifying.
Possibility.
