Chapter 316: Kai’s Shop

Cameron City.

The morning sun filtered through the patched awning of Kai’s Shop...

It was casting warm light across the rows of neatly arranged goods.

Farrah stood behind the counter with her long hair tied back. She had been busy over the past few days, but she wasn’t complaining.

They were earning a lot of cores after all.

’I wonder if there will be more customers...’

At this time, she surveyed the shelves. She had taken charge of the store while Kai was away, and though she was a warrior at heart, she found herself surprisingly adept at managing trade.

Despite having a Spirit Knight Talent, her others skills back on Earth was still helping her.

Beside her, the two blue‑haired siblings, Xian and Xinyi, were busy cleaning.

Xian was quite quick as she moved between shelves with a rag in hand, dusting off jars of mayonnaise and polishing the glass cases that held flashlights and batteries.

His sister Xinyi, her mechanical arm gleaming faintly in the light, carefully stacked survival clothing sets and folded sleeping bags with precision.

Though her physique was still frail, she worked diligently, determined to prove her worth.

The shop had become something of a marvel in Cameron City.

Unlike the scavenged goods most stalls offered, Kai’s Shop displayed items that looked brand new... mountain bikes with shining frames, vacuum‑sealed rations, pristine water bottles, board games with intact pieces, even musical instruments that seemed untouched by the apocalypse. Customers often whispered in awe, wondering how such treasures were obtained.

Farrah adjusted the placement of a signal jammer on the counter just as the first customer of the day arrived.

A grey-haired man with a scar across his cheek stepped forward, as he scanned the shelves.

"I need more emergency two‑way radios," he said bluntly. "The last set I bought here worked better than anything else in the market. Do you have more?"

Farrah offered a professional smile.

"You’re in luck. We just restocked yesterday."

It was obviously a lie since she was simply managing the number of items being sold, so they wouldn’t get emptied immediately.

This way, no one would purchase all their supplies and sell them for a higher price. It was basically a way to protect their store that they would be using for a long time.

She then gestured to Xian, who hurried to fetch a box from the back.

Within moments, the boy returned, lugging a crate of radios... Despite his current level, his face flushed with effort but nonetheless, he looked proud.

The man inspected one, tested the knobs, and nodded...

He looked satisfied after looking at one. "Perfect. I’ll take the whole crate."

Farrah’s brow lifted slightly. "The whole crate? That’s twenty units."

"Exactly. My team needs them. We’re expanding patrols." He dropped a pouch of C‑Grade Energy Cores onto the counter with a clink.

Then, he didn’t stop then and gave three more pouches.

Farrah counted quickly and smiled. They still had a couple more crates of that, so it should be just fine.

"Deal."

As the man left with his purchase, Farrah thought it would be a normal day... a few customers, steady sales, nothing unusual. But she was wrong.

Within the hour, more and more people began arriving. A pair of scavengers came in, marveling at the mountain bikes.

"These look brand new! How much?"

Farrah quoted a price, and they paid without hesitation, walking out with two gleaming bikes.

Next came a family, their children tugging at their sleeves.

They bought board games and musical instruments, desperate for something to distract from the bleakness of survival.

Xinyi smiled faintly as she handed them a guitar, her mechanical arm was also noticed as she lifted it with ease.

Then came a group of what seemed like mercenaries, their armor was dented and worn. They purchased vacuum‑sealed rations, water gallons, and survival clothing sets.

"Your goods are cleaner than anything we’ve seen," one remarked. "Feels like we’re shopping before the world ended."

Farrah kept her composure, but inside she was astonished.

The shop was being swarmed.

Every shelf was touched, every item was inspected.

’Hmm? Did we get some kind of promotion? Why are they all coming to this shop?’

She couldn’t help but worry for a bit... After all, there were still several factions here that might try to stir some trouble.

It would certainly be good to be popular, but there was a limit to that.

This was especially true for the

Xian darted back and forth, restocking as quickly as he could, while Xinyi managed the folding and organization with quiet determination.

By midday, the counter was piled with Energy Cores.

Farrah sorted them carefully... Hundreds of C‑Grade cores, and a few dozens of rare B‑Grade cores could be seen.

She stacked them in a locked case, her mind already calculating how much Kai would appreciate the haul.

Still, the flow of customers didn’t stop.

A hunter bought flashlights and batteries, mentioning night patrols. A medic purchased bandages and water bottles, praising their quality.

Another person from the Aries Faction was also there and acquired as many signal jammers and wristwatches as he could obtain. Furthermore, they were all paying generously... No one ever tried to negotiate for some reason.

’We already priced it a bit higher than we thought since we’re sure that they’ll negotiate the prices. This is weird. What is happening?’

Still, Farrah found herself enjoying her precious time as she saw the piles of Energy Cores piling up.

She would then give quick instructions to Xian and Xinyi as they got used to work.

"Bring more rations from the back!"

"Stack those clothing sets neatly, they’re selling fast!"

The siblings responded eagerly, their faces glowing with pride at being part of something important.

Well, they’d get paid for this after all. The Gene Enhancement Serum they consumed and Xinyi’s Mechanical Arm replacement weren’t free after all

At one point, Xian paused, wiping sweat from his brow.

"Sister Farrah... we’ve never seen so many people. Is this normal?"

Farrah chuckled softly. She was also quite curious what was going on, but she didn’t want them to worry unnecessarily.

"Not normal. This is what happens when you sell quality. People can’t resist."

Xinyi chuckled as her mechanical arm flexed before she lifted a heavy box..

"It feels good... to help. To be useful."

Farrah glanced at her, warmth in her eyes. Xinyi was previously unable to stand up due to pain coming from her necrotic arm...

Thankfully,y she could now move freely after it was replaced.

"Hey... You’re more than useful, Xinyi. You’re part of this guild now. Both of you."

The afternoon wore on, and the shop became a hub of activity.

It seemed that word had spread quickly... Kai’s Shop was the place to find reliable, pristine goods.

Customers lined up outside, waiting their turn. Farrah managed them calmly, ensuring no one pushed or fought.

By evening, the shelves were half‑empty, the stock depleted faster than she had anticipated. Farrah finally relaxed and leaned against the counter... She was exhausted but delighted.

"Haa~ That’s a really long day..."

She then looked at the locked case filled with Energy Cores.

The glow of C‑Grade cores was abundant, and nestled among them were several precious B‑Grade cores. It was more than she had expected.

Farrah allowed herself a small smile. "Kai will be pleased. We’ve done well today."

Unfortunately, as soon as she said this, her Spirit Sense Skill allowed her to notice the presence of some people outside the store.

***

"Hide... You two." Farrah immediately said to the two helpers.

"W-why--" Xian asked as he was confused. But his sister cut her off.

"Sshhh... Just follow her instructions."

They had no idea but a group of high‑level Survivors approached Kai’s Shop.

Farrah’s Spirit Sense wouldn’t mistake their aura... It was oppressive, and unmistakably dangerous.

Furthermore, their clothing confirmed it... they were from the Cancer Faction.

Through the window, her eyes locked onto one figure in particular.

Cornelio had warned her about him before.

Elder Hao.

His presence was different, and his reputation was infamous.

He was a Level 80 Survivor at the very least.

The five men behind him carried themselves with confidence, their levels likely between 40 and 50.

Together, they radiated a killer aura that made the shop’s humble defenders, Farrah at Level 35, and the two children at Level 9, seem absurdly outmatched.

The door suddenly burst open, not by hand but through force... It was telekinesis or perhaps a wind skill.

The hinges rattled as the group stepped inside.

Elder Hao’s gaze swept the shelves before settling on Farrah.

"Hmmm... This is the shop selling those Signal Jammers," he said coldly. "You’re aware that our faction is the only one allowed to produce them, right?"

Farrah frowned. This wasn’t something mentioned by Cornelio.

"I didn’t know."

Elder Hao’s lips curled into a sneer.

He raised his hand, fingers stretching toward her throat, intent on crushing her spirit along with her body.

But before he could touch her, a sudden wave of Spirit Energy surged through the shop, pressing against him like a wall.

Whom~

The surroundings vibrated, halting his movement...

Farrah’s eyes widened as she recognized the figure who had helped her...

"Sir Hale..."
