Chapter 190: Your Wife Is Missing Yet You Are Still Sleeping

"What are you doing here?" Yvonne White stopped and asked, "You’re not here for Janice, are you?"

Benjamin Taylor was stunned. He had not expected himself to bump into Yvonne and was about to speak, but Yvonne continued, "She’s not in the hospital. By the way, has she contacted you recently?"

Benjamin paused and said, "I just came back from overseas."

"Oh, then forget it."

She continued to walk out.

Benjamin wanted to stop her, but something flashed through his mind and so he decided not to. He turned and continued to walk into the hospital.

As soon as Yvonne got out of the hospital, she went straight to the nearby police station.

"I want to report a case. I haven’t been able to contact my friend for a week." Yvonne had walked into the police station and reported directly to the police. The policeman inquired some basic information, then asked. "Have you been to her home or to her relatives’?"

Yvonne was stunned. She had only thought of reporting to the police and this had not crossed her mind. However, they could forget about her relatives and she was the only friend. Speaking of which, she had never been to Janice Gladwell’s new home, so she naturally did not know where it was.

She could only shake her head.

The policeman was speechless. "Miss, this is the police station. Please take it seriously. Please look into it carefully before reporting any disappearances."

Yvonne had no choice but to leave dejectedly.

However, she firmly believed that Janice was missing. No, she had to find out exactly what was going on. She hurried back to the hospital.

Just then, in the hospital.

Benjamin had arrived at the door of Christopher’s ward. It was late at night and there were very few people in the corridor. He successfully entered Christopher’s room and was about to close the door.

"Who are you?"

A voice came from behind him.

He almost had a heart attack. He turned around to look. Not far away, Christopher was sitting on the bed, leaning against the headboard. Their eyes met, and Chris’ eyes were full of vigilance.

"Who are you?"

He asked again.

Only then did Benjamin come to his senses. From his observation of the alertness and unfamiliarity in Christopher’s eyes, it was not faked.

Benjamin was surprised that Christopher could not recognize him. He recomposed himself and said, "I’m sorry, I am in the wrong room."

He turned to leave when suddenly he hesitated and instead, turned around and confirmed, "You really don’t remember me?"

Christopher frowned but his eyes were still wondering.

Benjamin did not say anything more. He went out of the room with a smile on his face.

Just as Benjamin left, Yvonne had changed into a nurse’s uniform. She refused to believe that someone else can call the shots within her territory when she was the one working in the hospital. So she borrowed a set of nurse’s uniform from a nurse on duty and put it on. After everything was done, she went straight to the ward. This time, there was no obstacle at all as she walked in.

When she carried the nurse’s tray into the room, Christopher had his eyes closed and was resting in peace.

Yvonne subconsciously glanced around the room and sure enough, she did not see Janice Gladwell. She walked over and waved in front of his eyes. When she saw that he was really asleep, she pushed his arm and said.

"Hey, your wife is missing. You are still sleeping?"

Christopher had just closed his eyes, when he was suddenly woken up by a push on his arm. He opened his eyes and saw an unfamiliar face. The only thing he was familiar with was the nurse uniform on her.

He was stunned for a moment and then reached out his hand. "Give it to me?"

...

Yvonne White was puzzled. "What do you mean give it to you?"

Christopher Bateman frowned. "Didn’t you bring the medicine?"

Yvonne was speechless. "Chris, you haven’t seen your wife for days. Aren’t you anxious at all?" she asked.

Yvonne was a little angry because he was acting as if nothing had happened. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Christopher stared at her with a puzzled look, as if he did not know what was going on.

"What wife? Exactly what did you come here for?"

Yvonne was stunned. She stared at the man in front of her, in a daze. "What’s going on?"

"Are you out of your mind?"

Just as she was about to ask something, the door of the ward opened from the outside. Sophie Valen walked in and saw Yvonne standing in front of the bed dressed in a nurse’s uniform. Her face turned pale and she quickly rushed forward.

"Why are you here again? Get out."

She seemed to be warning Yvonne.

Seeing that she had been discovered, there was no need for Yvonne to stay any longer. She picked up the nurse’s tray and said, "Why are you being so fierce? If you want me to leave, then I will leave."

As she spoke, she glanced at their faces unhappily, especially Christopher’s. She even gave him a hateful look before turning to leave.

When Yvonne left, Sophie finally let out a sigh of relief.

"Who is she?"

Christopher suddenly asked.

Sophie was stunned, then said with a guilty conscience.

"Oh, she is a... harasser. You must call the police when you see her in the future."

Christopher, however, frowned. Why did he keep meeting strange people today?

Seeing that he did not have any suspicions, Sophie was relaxed. However, she knew that there was a time bomb in the hospital and that it was only a matter of time before something would go wrong. Thus, she took out her cell phone as she walked out.

Yvonne returned to her office in anger. "What’s going on? His wife is missing, but he is not worried at all."

A man’s mouth is truly unreliable. When Christopher was in a coma, for his sake, Janice suffered much grievances. Now, he did not even remember or care about his wife.

However, Christopher’s reaction just now was a little strange. After all, Yvonne had worked in the hospital for a very long time and had seen all kinds of patients, but his reaction was a little abnormal. Before she could figure it out, the phone rang and she picked it up.

"Dr. White, what’s wrong with you? You’re a doctor. Why were you harassing patients? Do you still want to continue working here?"

The director’s furious voice came from the phone. Yvonne was still confused. "When did I harass a patient?"

"Are you still not going to admit it? The CEO of the hospital has received complaints about you."

Only then did Yvonne relate the compliant to the encounter in Christopher’s room. It must be Sophie Valen who is creating trouble.

She said, "Director, please listen to my explanation."

"There’s no need to explain. You’ve been fired."

"What right do you have to fire me based on one accusation?"

"It’s the CEO’s decision. You’d better take care of yourself."

"Hey... hey..."

Before Yvonne could say more, the line was cut off. Yvonne threw down the phone in rage.

How dare that bitch stab me on my back. Fine, what’s the big deal about leaving this hospital. What a bullshit hospital! Better to go somewhere where I would be appreciated!

Yvonne took off her white coat, threw it on the ground, and stomped off.

In the villa.

After Benjamin Taylor had left the hospital, he drove to the villa in the suburbs.

When he arrived, he parked the car and walked in.

There was only one floor lamp in the room and it was a little dim. A weak figure was huddled up in a corner near the table, her hair disheveled.

For a while, Benjamin was unsure if it was Janice Gladwell. He called out with uncertainty.

"Janice."

...

Janice Gladwell squatted in a corner, deep in thoughts. When she heard someone calling her, she slowly looked up, but when she saw Benjamin Taylor walking over, she got up, surprised.

"Why are you here?"

Only then did Benjamin clearly see that it was Janice. She looked much paler than when he had last seen her. He walked forward with a concerned look.

"Did they harm you?"

Janice shook her head and asked in astonishment. "You... how did you get in?"

Only then did Benjamin say, "You don’t have to worry about that. I just want to ask you, are you going to stay here forever?"

Hearing his question, Janice paused for a moment before continuing, "It’s just temporary. I’ll think of a way to get out."

Hearing her words, Benjamin felt his heart ache for her.

The place was heavily guarded. If it was not for the fact that he had asked Nathan Bateman for permission, before coming here, he would not have been able to enter at all. As a frail woman, how could she possibly be able to leave this place?

It was completely impossible.

He asked, "Why don’t you choose to give up?"

"Give up?" Janice looked at him with confusion. She did not understand. Christopher was her husband, legally. Why did everyone want her to give up the marriage?

Nathan Bateman wanted her to give up. So did Sophie Valen, and now Benjamin Taylor...

What right do they have to demand this?

Could it be that even Benjamin has become a lobbyist for Nathan Bateman?

She found it hard to accept.

With these thoughts in her mind, the way she looked at Benjamin suddenly became much colder.

"If you’re also here to urge me to give it up, then stop. I will not give up." She turned her face away and her back towards him.

Benjamin stared at her back. The more persistent she was, the more distressed he felt. He wanted to tell her that Christopher Bateman no longer remembered her, but he held back the words at the tip of his tongue.

How could he tell her such a cruel thing?

"But he has been awake for a while and he hasn’t come to see you. Don’t you think it’s strange?"

He could hint to her.

Janice did not get his hint.

"What’s so strange about it? He’s so seriously injured. He must be recuperating in bed."

She was not surprised at all.

Hearing her words, Benjamin felt helpless. She trusted him so unconditionally.

"Even if it is so, if his wife hasn’t appeared for so long, doesn’t he wonder what is going on? If he is concerned, he should have the means to at least find out what has happened. Don’t you think it’s unreasonable why he hadn’t done anything?"

Janice was stunned by Benjamin’s words.

That’s true, with Christopher’s character, if he didn’t see her, he would definitely send people to look for her everywhere.

But why had there not been any signs or movements? This didn’t make sense at all.

Benjamin looked at her. Seeing that her attitude had softened a little, he continued, "Have you ever thought that he may no longer care about you?"

"Nonsense. It’s impossible."

His words hit Janice’s sore spot, and she retorted harshly.

Benjamin stared at her angry face. For a moment, he had an impulse to tell her the truth, but he restrained himself.

He knew that with Janice’s personality, she would not give up until she hit a dead end. Since that was the case, he would let her find out the truth herself.

With that, he said, "I’ll let them know. If you change your mind, ask them to pass me the message."

As he spoke, he slowly turned around to leave.
