Chapter 186: Mr. Bateman’s Heartbeat Has Returned To Normal

Janice was dragged out of the ward. Her heart wrenched as she stared at the ICU door, closing slowly before her.

She didn’t want to give up, but what could she do?

She couldn’t wake him up.

"What should I do?"

"Am I really going to lose him?"

She slumped down and fell to the cold floor in despair, bursting into tears.

After some time, she felt a pair of hands touching her.

Janice slowly raised her head and saw Old Mr. Allson looking at her expectantly in a wheelchair.

Tears welled up in Janice’s eyes when she saw him.

"Grandpa, I’ve tried my best."

"I know."

He patted her on the shoulder before looking at the ICU door. He let out a sigh.

"It’ll depend on his luck."

As he spoke, Old Mr. Allson began to cough violently.

Immediately, Janice tried to pat him when she saw this. Suddenly, he vomited a mouthful of blood and fainted.

"Grandpa... Grandpa..."

Everyone in the hallway was thrown into chaos when he suddenly faint.

Misfortunes never come singly. Old Mr. Allson was rushed into the emergency room.

Not long after, a notice was handed over to Amelia. It was a notice to inform the guardian that the patient was critically ill. It was the second time she had received the notice in a day.

It was a deep blow to her.

She had never thought that she would suffer from such a blow when she returned to Tomaville after 10 years.

Amelia held the notice and her eyes were brimming with tears.

Janice stood at the side. She felt as though her heart was crushed into pieces.

It was all because of her.

If it weren’t for the fact that she insisted to investigate, Christopher wouldn’t have been injured because he wanted to save her, and Old Mr. Allson wouldn’t have been in danger because he couldn’t take the news.

It was all because of her.

She had let all of them down. Christopher, Amelia, and Old Mr. Allson.

God, what should she do?

Her heart hurt so much that she could not breathe.

At that very moment...

"Chairman, Ms. Gladwell, we’ve received some good news from the ICU just now. Mr. Bateman’s heartbeat had returned to a normal rhythm."

Hurried footsteps could be heard and Rob rushed towards them.

"What did you say?"

Amelia and Janice asked almost at the same time.

Rob explained, "Mr. Bateman’s heartbeat has returned to a normal rhythm. He’s no longer in danger."

Both of them were stunned after they heard Rob. Amelia was the first to react. She gushed.

"That’s great. Janice, did you hear that? Chris’s heart is beating normally now. He’s out of danger."

Of course, Janice had heard it. How could she not have heard such great news?

God finally heard her prayer.

Finally, Christopher survived and was out of danger.

A glimmer of hope appeared in front of her.

She burst into tears of joy at that thought.

"I’ll tell grandpa this good news now! He’ll recover once he hears it."

Amelia wiped her tears as she spoke. Then, she turned around and hurried towards her father’s ward.

Janice leaned against the wall and let out a sigh.

Finally, Christopher was out of danger.

Heaven pitied them.

"Thank you, Rob." She looked towards Rob and thanked him.

Rob said, "You’re welcome. By the way, I have some updates regarding the matter Mr. Bateman had asked me to investigate."

Rob recalled the matter and told Janice.

"What matter?"

Janice was a little confused.

Rob explained, "Mr. Bateman had always suspected that someone is trying to harm you on purpose so he ordered me to investigate it. Sure enough, I found some clues."

...

"So what did you find out?"

Janice also wanted to know, who was trying to harm her behind her back.

Just as Rob was about to speak, hurried footsteps could be heard from the hallway.

Nathan was walking towards them with some bodyguards in tow, with Sophie trailing behind them.

They walked over in a hurry and seemed to have bad intentions.

Janice and Rob seemed to have realized that something was amiss. But before they could react, Nathan ordered the bodyguards behind him, "Take her away."

After that, a group of bodyguards moved towards Janice.

"What are you trying to do?"

Janice backtracked when she saw that.

"Chairman, what are you..."

Rob also stepped forward to stop Nathan.

Nathan looked at Rob and warned, "Move aside. This is my family business."

Rob stood still. "Mr. Bateman won’t allow you to treat Ms. Gladwell like this."

Nathan was visibly shocked by Rob’s behavior. He stared at him and sneered, "Do you think you can stop me?"

As he spoke, Nathan waved his hand and several bodyguards in black uniforms stepped forward and surrounded Rob.

Rob knew that he was no match for them. Moreover, Nathan was right. It was the Batemans’ family business and he was an outsider. With that thought in mind, Rob looked back helplessly and then retreated to the side.

The bodyguards stepped forward and grabbed Janice.

"Release me! What are you trying to do?"

Janice struggled.

"I’m making up for what I’ve missed! Take her away!"

The bodyguards dragged Janice towards the exit as soon as Nathan gave his orders.

Sophie, who was standing beside them, stared at Janice, who was being dragged away. The corners of her mouth curled into a mocking smile.

Amelia arrived as soon as Janice was taken away. Her face darkened when she saw Nathan, who was standing at the door. "What are you doing here?"

Nathan immediately restrained his emotions when he saw Amelia. He asked, "I heard that Father is in the emergency room now. How is he?"

"It’s none of your business."

Amelia sneered and walked past Nathan. Then, she looked around and asked, "Where’s Janice?"

She asked Rob.

Rob hesitated for a moment. Just as he was about to speak, Sophie beat him to it. "Dad said that Janice was tired so he asked someone to send her home to rest."

Amelia sniggered. "Am I talking to you? Why are you interrupting?"

Sophie was embarrassed as she retreated to the side.

Nathan interjected, "Don’t say that. Sophie is telling the truth."

It would have been fine if he hadn’t spoken up for Sophie, but Amelia was even more furious now after he did that.

"Let me tell you, Nathan. Janice is Christopher’s wife, don’t you dare try anything funny on her."

After that, she turned around to enter the ward and slammed the door after that. Nathan was left outside. He narrowed his eyes. Janice would never be his daughter-in-law. "Let me go! Where are you taking me?"

Janice was dragged out of the hospital. The bodyguards dragged her into a car, and she was struggling to break free.

"What are you doing?"

A female voice could be heard.

The bodyguards stopped in their tracks.

Janice took advantage of the situation and glanced out of the car. She immediately called out to her once she saw that it was Lucy. "Lucy, save me!"

Lucy would never expect that the person in the car was Janice. She was acting out of righteousness as she saw them when she got out of the taxi and was about to walk to the hospital.

Immediately, she knew what had happened and ordered, "What are you doing? Let her go!" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

...

Seeing that they knew each other, the bodyguards warned Lucy.

"Mind your own business."

Then, they dragged Janice into the car.

Lucy was about to step forward but she was stopped by the bodyguards. She could only watch as the car drove away.

Initially, she came to see Janice, but now she witnessed her being dragged into the car.

Lucy thought that something was amiss, so she immediately flagged a taxi and followed the car.

In the car, the bodyguards taped Janice’s mouth because she was uncontrollable.

Janice couldn’t speak as her mouth was taped. She looked outside the window and saw that they were heading towards a remote place.

A sense of foreboding rose in her heart.

Sure enough, the car stopped in front of a villa in a suburb.

The car door opened and she was dragged down by a bodyguard. It was not until she entered the villa that the tape on her mouth was torn off.

"Where is this? What are you trying to do?"

The surroundings were unfamiliar as Janice spoke cautiously.

The bodyguard, however, gave her a warning.

"Stay here obediently. Otherwise, you’ll suffer the consequences."

Then, the bodyguards walked towards the exit. Janice ran after them without thinking, but as soon as she reached the door, she was stopped by the bodyguards. Then, they closed the door of the villa from the outside.

Janice was pushed to the floor. She immediately rushed forward when she heard that the door was being locked.

She realized that the door was locked from the outside.

The bodyguards were indifferent no matter how much she pleaded.

Gradually, she gave up.

"What should I do?"

She couldn’t stay here.

Christopher had just been out of danger, and she had to go to the hospital to accompany him.

With that thought in mind, she hurriedly looked around for an exit. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find a way out even though she searched the entire house.

Outside the door.

Lucy followed the car all the way to the villa.

She deliberately asked the driver to keep a distance so she wouldn’t be discovered.

She only asked the driver to stop when she saw the car being parked in front of a villa.

She quickly opened the door and got out of the taxi. She could only watch from a distance as she didn’t have the guts to barge into the villa.

She walked forward when two bodyguards escorted Janice into the villa. The door opened before she could move closer to the door.

Seeing this, Lucy quickly hid. However, after they came out of the villa, the bodyguards were waiting at the door and showed no signs of leaving.

Lucy was conflicted. If she rushed over now, not only would she not be able to save Janice, but she would also alert the bodyguards.

Worse still, it might put Janice in danger.

After all, she didn’t know who was the abductor.

With that thought in mind, she decided to call the police.

However, she recalled the events that befallen Janice and wondered. Wouldn’t she harm Janice if things had gone the same way they had last time?

After all, they were in the middle of nowhere. Janice might be killed by the time the police arrived.

With that thought, she hesitated. "Looks like I could only use my wits."

So she silently noted down the surroundings and returned to the taxi. She asked the driver to turn back. She would find a way to save Janice eventually.

In the villa, Janice couldn’t find a way to leave, and her mobile phone had been confiscated. She couldn’t get in touch with the outside world, and she didn’t know how Christopher was doing.

And then Old Mr. Allson was ill too. She could not stay here any longer. Not even a minute.

So she rushed towards the door and yelled at the bodyguards outside. "I want to see Nathan."

An hour later.

She saw Nathan in the villa as she wished.
