Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 280 - 229: Until We Meet Again
"By the way, can you tell me a bit about the internal structure of your alliance?"
Zhang Su wanted to take this opportunity to learn more about the Survivor Alliance. After all, Duan Wuhu and Fu Weijun were right there with him, and in case a conflict broke out one day, knowing both oneself and the enemy would ensure victory in every battle.
"Structure? There’s nothing I can’t say about that!" Zhang Xin thought Zhang Su was gathering information to judge what position he could hold if he joined the alliance. He enthusiastically shared the internal workings of the alliance.
"Brother Zhang, if you really have twenty people under you, and you come with weapons, you’d be at least a deputy leader in our alliance! You’d be my superior, and I’d have to nod and bow whenever I see you, haha."
"Then I’d better not go, haha..." Zhang Su laughed it off and kept some important information about the Survivor Alliance in mind.
"Old Zhang, there’s one more thing I’d like to ask you. What did the people from West Camp Village tell you on your way here?" After the laugh, Zhang Su seriously said, "Don’t lie to me, this is very important to me!"
"Uh..." Zhang Xin’s face stiffened and said, "It seems Brother Zhang knows everything. Yes, when we were crossing the bridge, we were stopped by a group of old farmers. Later, we went to West Camp Village. That Old Ma was stubborn at first and wouldn’t say anything. But then they had a traitor in their village who told me about you, that’s how I knew there was a leader named Zhang nearby!"
Zhang Su’s heart stirred, and he probed, "A traitor?"
"That’s right. Some brat, maybe fourteen or sixteen, not even fully grown and already wanting to defect to our Survivor Alliance. He stood up and said Village Chief Ma was lying, that West Camp Village had dealings with Boss Zhang who owns RVs. Haha, the people of West Camp Village turned green at that!"
"What happened to that traitor in the end?" Zhang Su asked calmly.
"What happened? Just as the brat was about to reveal some key information, Old Ma struck swiftly and shot the boy dead, damn, it shocked me, thought there was going to be a big fight. Thankfully, everyone kept their cool and stabilized the situation, damn it!"
Reflecting on his prior experiences in West Camp Village, Zhang Xin still felt a bit fearful.
He’s ruthless, not stupid, nor fearless. On the contrary, he’s been living comfortably in the alliance, his courage slowly worn away, becoming a bit afraid to die, and after this ordeal, just wanted to hurry back to the alliance and find a girl to relax with.
"This Ma Changshou is quite interesting."
Zhang Su muttered to himself with a smile.
"Ma Changshou? That’s Old Ma, Village Chief Ma, right? That guy is very deep, before I saw him nodding and laughing, I thought he was a pushover. But seeing him draw a gun, that was something else!"
Zhang Xin shook his head with a strange expression, reaffirming that in today’s world, there’s no such thing as a pushover!
"He’s shrewd and obviously doesn’t want to get involved in disputes. Unfortunately, in today’s world, it’s not easy to remain uninvolved..."
Zhang Su sighed, realizing a new understanding of Ma Changshou, feeling that this neighbor was quite decent. It’s a pity he’s already allied with the Cyan Dragon Corps, otherwise, he could be integrated like United Village into Celestial Horse Island.
Seeing other forces slowly merging and expanding, Zhang Su also had ideas, planning to find an opportunity to have a good talk with Ma Changshou.
"Hey, Brother Zhang, what’s up with the street outside, all bumpy?"
Thinking about the town, Zhang Xin asked.
"There used to be a village nearby, with fifty or sixty survivors. Later, it was attacked by a zombie horde and was almost entirely destroyed. The marks on the road were left during battles with zombies. A few survivors joined my camp."
Zhang Su half-truthfully said.
"Even fifty or sixty survivors couldn’t hold out... really tragic."
Zhang Xin shook his head, eyes reflecting memories, recalling his own encounters with zombie hordes, all too unpleasant to recall.
"Oh, the radio mentioned the Survivor Alliance successfully repelled two zombie horde attacks, is that true?" Zhang Su asked casually.
Zhang Xin shrugged and said, "That’s true. There were indeed two attacks, though I only experienced one. The other happened while I was out on a mission, and I found out only after returning."
"Impressive, you guys are quite strong. What scale were the attacks, and how did you handle them?"
Zhang Xin, seemingly having not found someone to chat openly with in a long time, was very forthcoming with Zhang Su’s questions: "You know, a shopping mall, with ups and downs, the alliance has a few clever guys who set up traps. The zombies couldn’t get upstairs unless they tore the building down. Up there, we were completely safe, just needed to take them down slowly. The attack I was part of had around ten or twenty thousand!"
Zhang Su contemplated the alliance’s tactics, finding them commendable. Upon hearing the number of zombies, he couldn’t help but be amazed. Being able to handle so many zombies, regardless of the method, was impressive!
Then, the two discussed some zombie-related topics. After a while, Zhang Xin checked the time on his wrist, stood up, and said, "Brother Zhang, that’s it for today. I need to head back to report. If you have the chance, make sure to visit the city! The road back is still quite clear!"
"Alright, I’ll see you off, and drive the car away. Oh, and I’ll take these weapons too."
Zhang Su got off the vehicle with a cheerful smile.
"Leave the pistol with me..." Zhang Xin reluctantly said, "There’s a few hundred kilograms of grain we brought from West Camp Village in the car, all for you, just leave me the pistol."
"Wow, you guys really know how to scrape the bottom of the barrel, haha, fine, I don’t need the pistol, but this submachine gun..."
Zhang Su picked up the submachine gun beside Deputy Leader Old Yan and frowned, "What model is this?"
"I have no idea... just using it blindly. Wait, I’ll find someone to ask for you." Zhang Xin waved to someone nearby, "Xiaohu, come here!"
"Captain Zhang, what’s up?"
The young man, in his mid-twenties, full of energy, came over and stood proudly before them.
"What did you tell me this gun was called before?"
Zhang Xin pointed to the submachine gun in Zhang Su’s hands.
"Oh, this is a CS/L2 submachine gun, developed in 2004, with a 9mm caliber, a shortened version of the Type 05, effective range of one hundred fifty meters, usually equipped to SWAT teams."
Xiaohu swiftly rattled off the firearm’s specs.
"SWAT teams, huh..."
Zhang Su looked at the gun in his hand and continued walking.
"Old Zhang, for you!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
From the Benz, Zhang Su rolled down the window and handed a walkie-talkie to Zhang Xin sitting in the passenger seat of Tank 30000.
Zhang Xin received the walkie-talkie, glanced at it, and nodded, "This is high-end stuff, a professional-grade walkie-talkie. It reaches at least ten kilometers, right?"
Zhang Su shook his head, "Haven’t tested it, but it should be fine based on the power. Remember to charge it. If I head to the city, or if you come north, use this to contact me."
He handed Zhang Xin the walkie-talkie originally used to connect with United Village, and now that United Village had merged with Celestial Horse Island, he could retrieve the strong signal walkie-talkie from Wang Longzhong.
"You tuned it to the right frequency, right? Alright, got it." Zhang Xin fiddled with the walkie-talkie, feeling satisfied. This type was typically reserved for core members within the alliance, not someone in his position as a squad leader.
"Take good care of it, don’t get caught and be treated as a spy!"
"Don’t worry, Brother Zhang. Well... until we meet again!"
"Until we meet again!"
With a brief farewell, the three vehicles parted ways at the intersection, the RV, and FJ Cruiser headed north, while Tank 30000 drove south.
